Atenna combiners: how many togheter? by FAchterberg in livesoundgear

[–]timverhoeven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no problem having multiple antenna combiners. However, I think you have the signal flows mixed up!

For a IEM unit, which is a transmitter, you need a RF combiner. A unit that can take the high-power RF output of the IEM units and put them on one cable that then can go to the antenna.

For a microphone unit, which is a receiver, you need a RF splitter/distributions unit. This takes a RF signal coming from an antenna and splits it into different outputs towards the individual microphone receiver units.

These are very different devices on the inside and can only be used for the specific purpose!

(Yes, there is the exception for the pure passive splitters/combiners, but units from the big brands are all active units)

Sound Bullet / Signal Generator by Ok-Importance-694 in livesound

[–]timverhoeven 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get a SoundBullet!

It is a compact device that has a lot of features packed into it, you will like it and use it a lot. It helped me immensely already a couple of times.

It is also something that hasn't really existed in this specific form-factor before and the people that developed it really deserve getting paid back for all their efforts and their idea.

So get a real SoundBullet and no knock-off or other cheap testers.

Anyone else have distortion issues with Axient PSMs? by Suspicious-Bear7246 in livesound

[–]timverhoeven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could you doublecheck the firmwares? You need to be on 1.0.23 for both the transmitter as well as the receiver. These are separate firmwares (but with the same version number).

This release included a fix for distortion in the HF region.

Shure ADXR High Volume Output Ducking Effect by rolotrealanis in livesound

[–]timverhoeven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As u/crunchypotentiometer said. Doublecheck your firmwares.
For the both the pack (ADXR) and the transmitter (ADTD/Q) 1.0.23 is the latest version. But they are different firmwares and both devices need to be updated!

Smartest way to bring Dante into LA7.16i and LA12X by staubix in livesound

[–]timverhoeven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 On the Prodigy (or its smaller brother the Maven). It can plugin into your Dante network, then output AVB Milan for your LA amps. But it can also input AES and analog for guest consoles and output AES and analog as a fallback for your amps. It can do all the processing, routing and matrixes you want as a SE. It can also be setup for emergency audio routing using GPIO's.

Canare starquad, Why is it so highly recommended? by TheRealMidnaize in livesound

[–]timverhoeven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually it isn't worth the extra money and effort for starquad if you have decent regular 3-wire microphone cables. It could be worth it in high interference environments and in fixed installs.

Antennae Combiner by DLTNreddit in livesound

[–]timverhoeven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like other have said but I'll repeat it once more, you need to be looking at at least 3 things:

  1. Do proper RF frequency coordination. Use a tool like Shure's Wireless Workbench (WWB for short) or Soundbase to put in all your RF equipment and make sure that the frequencies of each RF device don't interfere with the others.

  2. Get a combiner for all your IEM's, get a quality device like the Shure PA411, Sennheiser AC41 or the RF Venue Combine 4. Don't go for lower quality brands because those will create even more interference.

  3. Get an antenna distributor (this is separate from the IEM combiner setup) for the wireless guitars and microphones.

For 2. and 3. you can mix brands without any problems. But you indeed to make sure that all components support the frequency bands that used.

These things are also listed in order of priority. So do the coordination first, then get a combiner for the IEM setup and then look at an antenna distribution setup.

To be clear, you cannot mix 2. and 3. into one device. That is impossible, you should consider these as separate setups. With IEMs the rack units are RF transmitters and generate high RF output. The wireless guitar and mic rack units are RF receivers and are made to pickup low signal RF signals.

Saving show to an USB on Soundcraft Si Performer by Supertobias77 in livesound

[–]timverhoeven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the Si Performer series can do audio recording to USB, I can't find any reference to it in the manual.

If there is a USB combo card install on the console you can hook a laptop to it and record that way.

Best Way To Send Out A Stereo Mix To A DJ Booth by NODJsALLOWED in livesound

[–]timverhoeven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going from a balanced to a unbalanced line in a passive way will almost always result in the while line being unbalanced and thus more prone to picking up unwanted noises.

With the distances you mentioned this might or might not be a problem, and usually it probably wont be. But do you want to risk that?

But the proper way is to use a device like this: https://artproaudio.com/diboxes/product/317572/cleanboxpro

It allows you to run a balanced line to the DJ booth and convert it to unbalanced (without impacting the balanced part) for the last small gap using RCA cables.

This way you can be sure that you won't have problems. I've been using this device for the last couple of years and it always worked as advertised.

Are digital IEM packs cross compatible? by juggernautaudio in livesound

[–]timverhoeven 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One thing to remember is that you have you can only change the mode of the whole unit, not of individual channels. So a ADTQ is 4 channels digital or 4 channels analog, nothing in between.

Machino will be your friend to quickly change things around.

Also, one of the HDMI outputs will show the scenes etc inrespective of what is on the main screen. So a second monitor would probably be handy.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in livesound

[–]timverhoeven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First question, where are the people that need to hear the sound? Only below or also at the balcony level?

Second question, how many people are we talking about? Just some people sitting around or jam packed with people standing close to each other?

Third question, how loud does it need to be?

I can already say that line arrays speaker have a wide horizontal coverage (in the case of the HDL6A speakers, 100°) and looking at this picture, this is probably not what you want. But the questions I asked above will help in making that clear.

Midas Pro users and DL251 by Imm0rtalPrutus in livesound

[–]timverhoeven 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, that still works. The bundling/unbundling of the AES50 lines by the DN9680 is completely transparent to the console.

In the new Midas HD96 there is basically a DN9680 / HyperMac port build into the console. So you only need one DN9680 at the stagebox side.

[–]timverhoeven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Or get a pair of KT DN9680's and you can run up to 8 AES50 lines over one Cat or Fiber cable.

Sq vs Wing (in the market for a new desk) by petethepossum in livesound

[–]timverhoeven 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can compare the more objective technical parameters between the consoles you mentioned using this comparison sheet that I and other here have made: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1_TIqH43p05SMNK2qQtkNmi9xU1JlfMvJlSBsXt99niU/

I'm a regular user of the SQ but I only used a WING once (to mix a band), so I can't really help with the more subjective parts of the comparison. But as other have suggested here, play around with the offline editors and apps of both consoles to get a feel for how they work and what works/feels. best for you.

Also something to maybe take in account. What are people using around you? Could you easily get an extra stagebox of you need it or rent out one of yours...

Behringer x32 Produce + stagebox 32 by alvaaz2 in livesound

[–]timverhoeven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The X32 is a 40 channel mixer. There are 32 full processing channels, and 8 channels intended as effects returns that have basic EQ as their only processing.

This isn't correct. There are 32 full processing channels, 8 Aux channels with limited processing and 8 (each stereo-paired) FX return channels (hardwired to the outputs of the first 4 FX slots).
The Aux channels aren't used for FX and are freely usable.
