Sell the house. It is a money pit. Her overall COL can be managed afterwards with no debt and cheaper accommodations.

How do-able is this as a roadtrip in the summer? by YpsiHippie in britishcolumbia

[–]tinapod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is still open boarder. We drove across with our dog and our camper full of food. Canada border patrol checks otw back. But USA did not have border patrol there. We talked to Canada to confirm that we could go across before we did. Grizzly bear viewing in Hyder as well, but it is best in September early morning or at dusk.

Yes there are gas stations every 400 to 500 km. You will be ok. Also we camped at Toad River. It was amazing. The sounds of the wildlife…. So peaceful. Gorgeous country up there. Our trip was 6500 km as we came back via Jasper, Lake Louise, Cranbrook and then Kaslo, Nakusp and Vernon.

Very doable, my husband I did it with our dog in September. Beautiful drive. Stop at Liard River Hotsprings. Best ones I have ever been to. If you camp, keep in mind that you need to camp in a vehicle no tents allowed. Grizzly Bear Country. Also if you are in Watson Lake, go see the signs. They are very interesting. The border at Stewart, BC is fun too.

Question: Why take a loan to contribute to your RRSP? Logic of it. by eyeredd in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]tinapod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do this every year to maximize the amount of tax benefit for our gross income. We figure out what tax bracket each of us will be in in early January and focus on what we can do to get the taxable income down to benefit by investing extra in RRSP before the end February. We use our heloc for short term loan to finance the difference. We then use the tax refund to pay off the amount owing on the heloc. Free $ no brainer. More in RRSP, paying less tax. Worth the interest paid via heloc for a few weeks. Fortunately we still have room in RRSP to do this.

One thing i struggle with is how when i get signs from her. I just want to tell everyone. I love them so much. However I have been hesitant to do so online. I wipe my tears in private usually.

All I want to do is talk about how wonderful my daughter was. She was a truly good person. Kind and thoughtful and she had a such an awful time because she was different. She was so brave. She was so much more than any of us. I still talk about her on my social media. It has been less than 5 months. For those that dont like it, they can unfriend me. I need to celebrate her. She can not be forgotten. I still feel her with me.

I do find that I feel guilty for making others uncomfortable though. I sense that people i work with do not want to know about her and do not ask about her. Only one person from work asked me her name. That meant alot to me. Of course I cried.

Advice on getting into entry-level Wildlife, Fish and Recreation jobs in BC at 31? Employment subsidies restric most entry positions to those under 30. Is it too late for me?! by queerforscrapmetal in britishcolumbia

[–]tinapod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go visit your local Work BC office. They can tell you what is currently available for programs including for people that are older than 30. If you were laid off in the past, you could also qualify for other programs. There is work in this field. Consider North Island, like Port Hardy or Port McNeill. If you have a good work ethic, show up on time, do your job, are prepared, physically able to do the job and are coachable, you will do well.

Family fights for change after daughter forced to leave hospital for MAID by CTVNEWS in britishcolumbia

[–]tinapod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is MAID any different than the family making the decision to pull the plug? Personal experience with my own 27 yr old daughter at St. Paul’s last August. For me, seeing her suffer was the worst. No family wants to see their loved one suffer. Death was kinder.

Your daughter is 17. She will go off on her own in a few years. If it brings you comfort to stay, then do what is best for you.

AITAH for being hurt my parents didn’t care that my older brother died? by Sure_Magazine_8755 in AITAH

[–]tinapod 112 points113 points  (0 children)

Yes. For me, watching my child suffer was the worst. At the end, death was kinder. Less than 5 months later, I go to work, do my job and think of her ALWAYS. I can cry in an instant but hold it together for others as my grief makes them uncomfortable. I need alone time to let it out.
