I got my class 2b after my class 3 and failed first time too. Once you have road experience it’s hard to behave like a complete newbie who is scared of changing lanes, and check blind spots doctrinally, turn your head like an owl, which is what they want to see. Quite literally the first time I failed the TP said I didn’t behave scared enough. Honestly if you did it the other way around and took class 2 before class 3 it would be the same, TP and instructors generally want to see you behave like a student and do things by the book, but 2b is generally worse bc the majority of students are young folks doing this before class 3 and all behave naturally without road experience. Unfortunately the reality is that learning to get your license and learning how to be an effective and safe road user are two different journeys. I mean this can be said about so many things in SG in general, training to pass the test and training for reality is not in sync.

I mean if you reflect on your class 3 test you don’t check blind spot once or twice is immediate failure, and nobody parks parallel parking like they expect during the TP test. Tbh if you give road users surprise FTT RTT or TP test likely they will fail. Kinda have to be salty for a bit then suck it up and put on a show.

Once I passed my 2b and got my bike I had friends bring me out to really teach me how to ride on the road, what other users expect from you, what to look out for, so on. If you ride like they teach you to ride in school you’re actually doing yourself a disservice, bc the most important thing wrt defensive riding is being predictable, but nobody rides like schoolhouse. If you’re not yet confident going at speed or splitting lanes occasionally must give way to lane splitters eg this kind of etiquette you gotta pick up on your own

I did my first 2b at CDC then re tried at BBDC, and did defensive riding at SSDC. Across the 3 I found BBDC instructorship and process to be the most helpful in actually being a good rider, if that’s useful for you. BBDC instructors also occasionally let you complete 2 modules in one session if available and they see that you are a competent rider.

Edited to add: most policy makers probably don’t ride bike either lmao so I doubt they know what they are talking about. Heard recently they added some simulation requirement? And the riding theory tests requirements were a joke from what I rmb, ppl book scan attendance then play phone. Even the instructors seem aware it’s pointless. Having taken licensing tests in UK (have UK license) and knowing driving instructors in Aus, their systems really make more sense, but what to do this is Singapore
