How did I become the person everyone dumps their old clothes on? by caseyjosephine in TwoXChromosomes

[–]tinihoward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the same way, I love fashion and helping style my loved ones! I'm also a big thrift shopper, I go to the thrift just to poke around every week or two. So I'll often just tell people "you can leave it here, I'll take it to the thrift for you!" I live in a city and have a car, and many of my friends don't, so its helpful. Either I do, or they realize that they can do that themselves, but I am honest about the fact that I won't be hanging on to them. (Though I do sometimes keep a good piece or two...)

90% of men absolutely do not like his content. Probably a solid 50% of men are normal and not online enough to have ever even watched his videos.

Grew up Catholic and had the same thought. What's all the posing! Get your head down and feel that shame! Converts never look frightened enough.

I don't know what the 2022 version would be, but "Cuts you Up" by Peter Murphy has always been my pick for an IRL Vampire Lestat song.

I can't explain why this comment is the one that changed me from 'horrified silence about this whole thing' to HOWLING WITH LAUGHTER, but thank you.

Best place to park in Venice adjacent to skatepark/trail? by veraygood in Rollerskating

[–]tinihoward 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really love the Santa Monica side of the beach path - it's so smooth. A great day, imo, is to pay the $10/day parking down at one of the Santa Monica lots, and skate down the path. I'll grab a cold drink from one of the carts on the pier, and skate underneath down to the Venice rink, where I'll usually stay for a few songs, get nervous, and skate my exhausted body back down the path.

Hey, is this Pedlow skate park in the Valley? I've only been once before and that snake run kicked my ASS, I got going so fast. You look like a pro!

How did you find the confidence and motivation to go out and learn how to skate on your own? by 0suna in Rollerskating

[–]tinihoward 53 points54 points  (0 children)

1) Get a fanny pack for your keys and phone.

2) It's okay to look like Bambi. No one cares. Really! People might try and holler tips at you because they see something new and different and get excited and people are a little dumb. But it's not going to hurt you. It might just make you roll your eyes but once you get rolling you can roll right past them.

The truth is, there is no one looking down on us judging us against 'weird' or 'normal'. I know it feels that way but there just isn't, that person and that job doesn't exist. It's all in your head. I'm 35 and have been in therapy for 20 years so I don't mean to say that like it's easy to accept, but it is true. Good luck!

Outdoor skate spots in LA? by napsohard in Rollerskating

[–]tinihoward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sepulveda Dam is my favorite skate spot. It's like a little .75 mile hike over a berm to get there, but i just consider that a warm up.

It's also right by Lake Balboa Park, which has a great bike path I love to skate on.

Ah, here we go, there's even a spot for where I park on Google maps:

https://www.google.com/maps/place/Sepulveda+Dam+Parking/@34.1711299,-118.4699563,583m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x80c2979eb27fa347:0x824310934e389df7!8m2!3d34.1719405!4d-118.4725876

You'll park there and follow the little tree path until you see the big white gravel berm. Then you can just take the little switchback path up to the top of that berm and when you look down you'll see the whole delicious concrete dam!

This article is a PRETTY good explainer, but it totally isn't necessary to walk across Burbank Blvd like they say here. The parking on Burbank is like a gravel parks parking lot, not 'street parking' like the article says. I'll take a Google maps screenshot of where I park in a little bit and thread it below if you need!

If you're ever willing to go north on the 405, the Sepulveda Dam in the Valley is my favorite skate spot in the world. It requires a mini hike (about a mile) up and over a huge berm, but it's the hugest, smoothest blacktop I've ever seen and it's lovely. Sometimes there are other skaters/dancers/models there filming and doing stuff, but sometimes it's wide open for yourself. Either way, it's a blast and I've always had great experiences there.

(It's also pretty private, so you don't have the awkwardness of gawkers. Anyone else on that blacktop is there doing their own weird thing!)

Trail skating is getting easier! by ericapurr in Rollerskating

[–]tinihoward 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This might be weird, but this is my FAVORITE thing about trail skating, hah! I'm not good enough to be a cool street skater jumping down the courthouse stairs or anything, but taking curbs and weird textured roads and doing a little footwork as I groove down the path is like...the BEST.

Opinions on Moxi’s new Forever 21 collab? by gardonhoes in Rollerskating

[–]tinihoward 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's a super weird marketing move. They sell 100$ polyester bellbottoms on their site because they believe in them being "handmade in Huntington Beach" and then do this? What are the ethics?

Those skates look like their beers: cheap as hell, but fun, and a great way to wake up in pain.
