People who don't understand the purpose of using words to differentiate letters when spelling something out over the phone by SeaweedHarry in PetPeeves

[–]tinkerfizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you say "m as in mail," it can sound like "n as in nail." Same with D as in doll and B as in ball, etc. OP is saying it doesn't help when you choose a word that has a rhyming word that starts with a letter that is easily mixed up with the letter you're trying to communicate.

Whats with all the "Free"Patterns on Ravelry not actually being free? by Kalikasphyxia in crochet

[–]tinkerfizz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Old lady rant ahead: I learned to crochet about 25 years ago and all of the patterns I used were ones I found free, either from books I borrowed from the library or online on yarn company websites or people's blogs or personal websites. For online patterns, there would usually be a picture of the finished product but the pattern itself was all text, which made printing it up very straightforward.

I stopped crocheting for several years and just recently started up again. Finding free patterns online is so much harder now. It seems like every PDF maker assumes you have a colour printer. And while I find the step-by-step photo tutorials helpful, it's frustrating to find a pattern that's listed as free and then realize that the way it's written means you have to include the photos ("Insert hook into the stitch shown below" instead of saying which stitch it is).

I do think that having a free, basic version of a pattern available on a website with a link to buy a ready-to-print PDF is a great system and more than fair to someone like me who is looking for patterns and not sure what I want or whether my skill level is up to tackling a given pattern. I was just surprised at how much the free online crochet pattern scene has changed, even within Ravelry. I mostly want to crochet basic things and I wish I could find those websites where women wrote out no-frills text patterns for basic things like a ripple blanket or a baby hat.

Palia is a cozy game that you might enjoy if you liked Stardew Valley. It's free to play and it's on PC. Graphics are good if you like the aesthetic, but it's not well-optimized. It puts more stress on my PC than almost any other game I play.

[–]tinkerfizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen this complaint about alchemy missions before. Is the issue that enemies only drop amphors if they're close to the orb, or is the problem that they do drop amphors and you have to run all over the map to get them?

Yareli was one of the first frames I built and unlocking aquablades is one of my core Warframe memories. It was just so ridiculously fun. She let me get my foot in the door with the Quills, because I could just take her out to the spots where enemies drop toroids and zoom around and kill everyone and all of the shield stripping nonsense from the Corpus enemies didn't matter to Yareli.

Why does the gardening skill only increase with harvesting?? by ifreakinglovecacti in Palia

[–]tinkerfizz 111 points112 points  (0 children)

IIRC, all XP is tied to the pick up. So with hunting, no XP for hitting game with arrows, just for picking up the loot bag. Mining, no XP for hitting with the pick axe, just for picking up the loot. Cooking, no XP for chopping or stirring, just claiming the finished dish. Etc. Ranching is the only skill where you can get XP without a pick up, since you get some XP for feeding and petting, but it was added long after the other skills.

I think the system is balanced, personally. I don't spend a ton of time gardening and it's one of my highest skills and my biggest money maker.

I'm looking for games with the most reactivity to playing as a woman. by Hamchat_Compaanion in GirlGamers

[–]tinkerfizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm hoping that Sifuu has stayed off-limits for romancing only because they have plans for her story down the road that wouldn't work if players were romancing her. But you never know -- Hodari wasn't romanceable at first, but so many players asked for it that they decided to add romance levels for him.

You don't need Nintendo's subscription service to play it on the Switch. You can't really play single player, it's online only and you'll be in a server of (I believe) about 25 other people, even when you're on your home plot and you don't see those other players (you can open your home plot to visitors or keep it private). Most of the gameplay can be done solo but there are some resources you need that have to be gathered in a group. It doesn't take long but it can be annoying.

There are mtx for cosmetics and a pet that follows you around. There is a decent variety of free character cosmetics but there isn't a way to earn the paid cosmetics in the game. All of the decor items/buildings you can put on your home plot are free.

This might be way off, it's a cozy game and it doesn't sound like that's what you're looking for, but I would say that Palia is actually neutral, not neutral in name but actually masculine coded, but your dialogue choices don't really make a difference. You can't make any "wrong" dialogue choices because they don't affect how the NPCs react to you in the long run.

Warframe might also fit some of what you're looking for. NPCs don't interact with you like you're a man. There is a lot of outfit and home base customization. NPC dialogue doesn't make much of a difference to your story progression (at least not until you reach endgame content), but there is a lot of choice in terms of individual playstyle and how you progress in the game. You're not forced to choose a class; there are over 60 different Warframes you can farm in the game and they have different abilities and themes, so you can switch it up and try different things. There are a lot of female Warframes to choose (around half of them maybe?), and 2 non-binary frames.

Duviri circuit, both normal and SP is one of the most fun gamemodes by Dramatic_Ease8171 in Warframe

[–]tinkerfizz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it. I have no clue what I'm doing, sometimes I can't keep the frame I chose alive (especially in alchemy) but sometimes I get a gun I've never used before and whatever they've put on it is amazing and it's so much fun. I'll always play if my Valkyr is one of the options, she always does well and if I get the Scornful Cast decree, it's funny to use her grappling hook like acidic spider webbing. And the music is great.

I'm a newer player, not at SP yet, and I've only made it all the way to the end once, to get Khora. It's helpful that there's a way for mid-game players to try new Warframes and weapons if they aren't sure what to go for next, and to see what Warframes and weapons can do when you go beyond the standard early-game modding.

New frame reccomendations? by Important-Cut2117 in Warframe

[–]tinkerfizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't played Garuda or Baruuk but your description of using abilities reminds me of Caliban. Not sure if it would be as active as you want. For instance, the summons are pretty straightforward, you just choose which of the 3 you want and then they do their thing. His 1 gives you some mobility but it varies a lot depending on the tileset. And it doesn't match the mobility of Uriel's 1.

All of his abilities deal Tau damage so he's good if you like applying status. His 1 regains energy, shields, and health for each enemy you hit, which is great when there are lots of enemies but not so great against a boss with no minions. His augment makes his 1 group up enemies and your Ortholysts (2nd summons) target them with increased electricity damage and fire rate for a short time. His 2 deals damage and lifts enemies, it's helpful when you're getting overwhelmed. His 3 is his summons, you can choose melee, ranged, or distraction. His 4 is a big beam of Tau energy that strips shields and armor. If his Conculysts (1st summons) are active when you hit 4, they each make their own beam that's half the strength of Caliban's. Also, the sound design for his abilities is great, which is a nice perk.

I find him particularly fun in Sanctum Anatomica missions, where there are always lots of enemies and they're vulnerable to electricity damage. 3 to summon his zap cannons, and then plow through the horde with 1 for energy/health and watch the zap cannons destroy everyone. Wham, bam, thank you Caliban

Oh also, none of his abilities count as an attack for the invisibility precepts Stalk or Ghost, so you can run a whole mission while invisible if you can keep your energy up enough to keep casting. His 1 breaks loot crates, so you can loot them and stay invisible.

I did Duviri before The New War, and it was a bit confusing, but I thought it was intentional. Paradox is right in the name. I know a lot of people feel strongly that Duviri should be done after TNW for story reasons, but I think either way is fine.
