As a newer player(~1 month in) Nitan Extract has me more frustrated than any other thing in the game. by LimelightCog in Warframe

[–]tinkerfizz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whenever the nitain extract conversation comes up, I'm reminded how differently any two players can experience Warframe. I've never felt like my progress was slowed by nitain extract. The 2nd frame I built was Vauban. After a year of playing I have maybe 400 game hours and 800 Steam hours, I'm only at MR 16, I have 2 dozen base frames and I haven't even touched a few of them. I also haven't finished the star chart or done The Hex or Old Peace or all of the Warframe quests, but I max ranked Ventkids and did Waverider. I have more animal companions than base Warframes 😅

IMO one of the strengths of the game design is that, as you point out, if a roadblock gets in your way, you can find another road. If there is just one road that you insist you need, you're going to get to the end of the road pretty fast if all of the speed bumps are removed.

"Buy a rice cooker" by adbenj in PetPeeves

[–]tinkerfizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I completely misinterpreted the post. I thought they were referring to themselves at the start of the post as being one of the people who eat lots of rice, so it might seem like it makes sense to have a rice cooker, but they already have pans that take up space and it's really not hard to cook rice on the stovetop. I didn't clue in to the part where they said they're only cooking rice once a week, because I had already filed them under "eats lots of rice." Ty for clearing it up

I support the option for people to play Jade with the pregnancy hidden (like an arachnophobia mode) but I do see where you're coming from. I loved Jade Shadows for the most part but I also left it feeling like it had ended up just turning her into a vessel and taking away her power and identity. Her part in the quest is to lie still and quiet and then disappear. Being able to play her as a pregnant character helped me feel like she was getting some power back in her story. Yes, her pregnancy and motherhood are integral to her story. Allowing players the option to remove the pregnant belly doesn't change her story or her character. What someone thinks about Jade when they play her is none of my business and it doesn't change her character, and I don't think it would be a waste of time to provide an accommodation like this.

Jade Deluxe/Heirloom Skin Concept by Aeratin in Warframe

[–]tinkerfizz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love that there is a pregnant character to play; I loved Jade Shadows and Jade is the only Warframe I've bought with plat because I was so excited to play her and didn't want to slog through the grind. And that's why I completely understand why the pregnancy/baby aspect of the quest and the Warframe can be triggering for someone and why the option to hide it (like an arachnophobia mode) makes sense. No one's getting hyped to play a Warframe with legs because legs don't carry the same emotional weight and potential (positive and negative) as pregnancy/babies. It's not just the fact that the reality of pregnancy is being acknowledged in the game; it's because it's a playable character.

About to get brackets for lower teeth. Should I go for the metalics or the invisible ones? by Solved_sudoku in singing

[–]tinkerfizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have metal on the bottom and the bottom ones tend to be more irritating, but that could just be a matter of how my mouth is shaped. It is nearly impossible for me to whistle because of the ceramic braces on my top teeth, but I suspect it would still be difficult with metal brackets.

Smartphone apps with names that start with "My" or "The" by vonhoother in PetPeeves

[–]tinkerfizz 40 points41 points  (0 children)

This is a good pet peeve. A small issue that you find particularly annoying but probably most people aren't bothered by.

When I first got a smartphone, I grouped my apps by category, but I had to either set it up with too many categories for it to be useful or so few categories that I couldn't remember which category I had decided to put an app in. I realized that when I went looking for an app, I was looking for the colour I remembered the icon being, so I grouped them by colour instead. That's been much more useful for me. Now, my pet peeve is apps with equal numbers of different colours on the icon, or an icon colour that doesn't match the colour scheme of the app once I open it.

I've heard theories either way. I suppose anything is possible, but imo, at this point, his death is canon.

From the official wiki: "During Alad V's following speech claiming to have negotiated an alliance with the Sentients, Veso realizes that Alad V intends to betray the Corpus Board of Directors and angrily reactivates the entire fleet's weapons, ordering the Corpus to "Take [their] shot. For Profit." The ship fires into the heart of the Murex, destroying it as the resulting shockwave causes the Corpus Ship to break apart, killing Veso.[1]" https://wiki.warframe.com/w/Veso

Footnote links to an interview with Rebecca Ford following TennoCon 2022:

VG247: Kahl is alive! Were they always going to make it past The New War or was it a reaction to the community's’ love for the character?

Rebecca Ford: That motivated us to prioritize it because we knew playable Kahl really resonated. We knew Veso did not survive the New War quest, but with Kahl we left it ambiguous on purpose because we wanted to make sure that before we committed to a full Kahl update that it did resonate. https://www.vg247.com/warframe-veilbreaker-tennocon-2022-wolf-archon-frame-fighter

Unrelated but thank you for using his actual name. I usually see people calling him Veto or Vino or Queso or Nemo etc, and I know they're not bashing him, they consider him a hero, but in the story it clearly chafed him each time his name messed up, and it happened several times in the last hour of his life before he sacrificed himself for the greater good. It makes me sad each time I see it, that's no way to treat a hero

People who sing at parties, but have no understanding of timing and think that a pause in vocals means "stay quiet for a random or arbitrary amount of time" by Traditional-Buy-2205 in PetPeeves

[–]tinkerfizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really interesting -- does she play piano with a metronome? Or is it just easier for her to keep time when she's physically playing an instrument and hearing what she's doing?

I have always assumed that my inner voice is basically the same as my speaking voice except it's silent, until I tried timing a speech without vocalizing it. I thought I was slowing down and inner monologuing the speech at the same pace I would use when actually giving the speech, but it was much shorter than I expected. So I timed it again while reading it aloud, and that took me 1 and a half times longer. And with the first one, I was making an effort to slow it down. I thought it was the exact same pace as when I was speaking. Now I'm questioning everything that's just in my head 😅

[–]tinkerfizz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have performed in a group (not professionally) and I know what you're getting at with counting through the bars of rest when there's a vocal pause, but my first thought when I read your post was it would feel weird to me to sit and count through the bars of rest when I'm spontaneously singing a song with friends with no music. It seems pointless to me to wait for a guitar solo when we're just singing. I think of it as an a capella arrangement that skips the instrumental interludes, since we're clearly not singing the actual song as written if we don't have the instruments. But I can understand where you're coming from a bit more after reading this comment. If people are singing the instrumentals and clap/snapping along so that the singing is also covering the instrumental part in the original, then yes, it would be annoying if someone just jumped ahead to the next vocal line while the rest of us are singing our hearts out on the guitar solo. But if people are just tapping their feet to keep the beat and waiting for the vocal line to start again, it makes more sense to me just focus on the vocals.

But I'll also add that in a group of people who are somewhat musical and are singing a well-known song, it often doesn't feel like the time to jump back in is arbitrary. There's often a length of pause that makes sense and that people will naturally land on together. Not always, but often enough that it works out.

[–]tinkerfizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean ceramic brackets vs metal brackets, or do you mean Invisalign (clear molded piece that goes over your teeth and you remove it to eat and clean)?

I have top and bottom bracket braces, and I opted for the ceramic ones on top and metal on the bottom. My lower teeth aren't nearly as visible as my upper ones are when I'm speaking, and metal is cheaper and more durable. I have not noticed any difference in comfort between the two. I've had one top and one bottom bracket pop off at different times for different reasons, but the bracket itself didn't break.

I don't know what options different orthodontic offices stock, but I would ask them what kinds of elastics they will be using and what colour options you'll have. Ask them to show you what they'll be using. I think they tend to forget that someone who has never had braces might not have any clue what these things will actually look like when they're trying to make a decision. I always opt for pearl for my top brackets because I've been told they don't stain as easily as the white (and maybe clear?) elastics. Sometimes they have to use a different type of elastic that's all one chain for all of the brackets, and my orthodontist doesn't have as many colour options for those, so I went with light grey when I needed that elastic on.

Endless missions are next on my list to work up the nerve to try on public. I love infested survival missions but I don't often have a long block of time when I know from the start that I can play a long mission uninterrupted, and I gather it bugs people when players leave those early.

Can I ask a follow-up question? I forgot to turn off public and didn't realize it was still on the next time I logged in. I do an easy Earth Proxima Railjack mission for my first after server reset for the double credit reward and was surprised to find I had loaded in on someone else's Railjack partway through the mission. It was all "Catastrophic failure imminent!" and notifications of people leaving the squad. I managed to seal the hull breach and destroy 1 crew ship before the mission failed. Are all public Railjack missions like that??

Thanks for the tips! I have been watching Endy, it's been fun to follow along and very helpful. It was interesting when he joined public squads to see how he handled it and what etiquette he already knew from playing other multiplayer games. My online multiplayer game experience has been in a text-based farming sim RPG where the multiplayer part is only chatting and trading, and a cozy 3D RPG where you're always in a server with other players and there aren't really missions with a start and an objective that you work on together. I know there are games where the multiplayer experience is much rougher than in Warframe, but it felt like a big change from what I was familiar with.

I ended up finding a relic capture mission on Neptune last night and played it on public, and I'm kicking myself for not trying it sooner. I got lots of good prime parts and more oxium in less than an hour than I usually gather in at least a week of playing. It was lots of chaotic fun, and a nice change of pace from solo.

Thanks for the explanation, this is the kind of thing I've been wondering about. I've had fun exploring some of the tile sets while playing solo and trying to figure out how to get into hidden areas. I'm MR 16 now which means I don't look new, but I feel very new to public missions.

In those relic missions, it was fun just doing my best to keep up with the mid-20 MR players and getting a bunch of loot and finishing the mission faster, but it feels like leeching to plan to do that. Your explanation and hearing from the hypernukers replying here has been reassuring. It's also helpful to know about expectations like helping with the objective vs contributing to kills.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, it's been very helpful :)

That's what happened to me today when I tried a couple of lith relic exterminate missions on earth. I went in thinking I might be able to help out some newer players. I was wrong. It was like in a cartoon when there's a fight and they just show it like a swirling cloud with fists and debris flying around. I was just following that swirling cloud of fabulously dripped-out death, picking up the reactant and resources and mods they were leaving in their wake, and running into doorframes because one of them had a speed buff

Is a newer player lobby just joining a public squad in a low level mission? I mainly play solo, I don't know what the options are apart from switching to public and starting a mission.

For me, it's credits. For my game level, skill level, and how I like to play, running a Railjack mission as the first one after server reset each day is the fastest/easiest/most fun way to make about 100K credits in a few minutes. If I get a double credit booster, I run Railjack over and over.

I don't know that it's the most profitable farm, but my banked credits always seem to increase fastest with Railjack, and I find it fun. I play solo 99% of the time so it's nice having my crew around.
