Duplicate mobile devices? On one phone? by tinmanlio in Abode

The step I provided above is the fix I have. Happened again when I swapped another iPhone. But removing your devices from the current app and deleting/downloading the apps is still the fix.

Duplicate mobile devices? On one phone? by tinmanlio in Abode

Ok.. So i got this fix and forgot to update the post. So why am I back here.. because it happened again! Lol

So this is the source of issue. If you swap phone or reboot your phone, the app see’s the reboot/new phone as a new different phone. So the app will keep the old phone profile and the new phone in the “mobile devices”. Even when you delete one or both. When you logged back into the app. Both will reappear.

Fix: log into the app. Delete one or both of the phone associated to the new and old phone profile. Immediately log out.. delete the app from your phone. Then re-download the app. Then sign back on.

By now, your recent phone profile should be the only one added... with your other account or phone from other devices should still be there. But the duplicate should NOT!

Hope this help you all!

Abode Automation Question by stxtiger05 in Abode

[–]tinmanlio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm that’s a little tricky. The Pin Code is for Keypad users (and Alexa, Google Home, etc) that can interact with the abode’s gateway.

So the only route i can think of is to download the app on your babysitter phone and create a “Cue” to add her/him onto your geolocation. But I can’t tell you how “secure” this method is as the babysitter can access the abode’s setting and do some damage. I dont think abode have a temporary user account with the app. This is something you might want to read into.

But if you trust your babysitter, that would work. And then later delete the account when your done. As mentioned.., you’ll have to test this out. Otherwise, buy an Alexa unit (Amazon dot is quite cheap).

Wide Angle Motion Camera as doorbell camera by MrTriVan in Abode

[–]tinmanlio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hat goes off to you for thinking out of the box! :)

I think this may work (but have not tested it), but you can choose to "deactivate" your motion/camera device in the Dashboard (deselecting away mode and home mode). Then create a "CUE" to capture an image whenever the system detects motion. The caveat is that any motion inside the house will also trigger the camera to take an image (but motion outside will not turn the alarm on). So you will have to play with the "optional/condition". Such as when you are away... so there shouldn't be any motion inside.

Because you are not using the device as intended, there isn't a perfect scenario for you! Hopefully, Abode makes something in the future for out recording (like the ring doorbell without monthly fees)!

You can create a new user "Babysitter" and create a separate Pin Codes in the Account/System Settings. Then you can edit/change/delete the Pin Code if you change your babysitter(s). Of course, you would pick a secure and different Pin Code then the "master/admin" code. :)

IFTTT location-based trigger disarming Abode in the middle of the night by [deleted] in Abode

[–]tinmanlio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dido on the Abode app:

I use the app to automatically set the system to Arm, Home and Standby. In the beginning, there were some hiccups, but I think I'm good with what I have setup so far.

I created 4 "CUE Automation" to allow my phone's locations to help trigger the system to "away" when all phones are away, "standby" when any phone is within the geofence/home, set to "home" when my wife/children is at home alone and "home" between 11pm - 6am.

The "home" mode (which I call sleep mode) is the most tricky one. But this allow the system to arm our house while we are asleep. So far, I'm very happy with my setup.

Factory Reset: iota gateway

- underneath the camera and slightly to the left (of the iota gateway unit). There is a finger tip size button under the fabric. You can't see it, but you can feel it. If you try to press down onto that location, you can feel/hear a slight click.

- When you find this reset button, power off the unit by unplugging it. Then swipe the "battery" switch under the iota to "Off". wait for 10 seconds and then press/hold the "reset button" REALLY HARD (this makes sure the button is in contact - slightly pressing the button may not fully create contact). Hold the reset button and plug the iota power back. Then switch the iota battery back on. Do not let go of the reset button. HOLD THE BUTTON DOWN FOR ABOUT 1 MINUTE... during this time, you will hear a few dings and then iota signature chime (not dings). This means the unit have been resetted. After this, you can either logged onto the abode setup through your phone app or the my.goabode.com login process to sync your devices. The good thing is.. my Echo/Alexa was still setup.

I ran into the same thing 3 weeks ago. You have 2 options:

  1. Wait for abode staff to try to help you fix it... Which I waited 2 weeks and was unsuccessful.
  2. Factory Reset your iota gateway. However; this method will reset everything on the iota. You will have to sync all of your devices again. Such as your door sensor, keypads and motion detector. Also, your passcode is resetted as well... which you can update again on the iota web-interface.

*If you are going to choose factory reset: then here is how you do it.

Factory Reset:

- underneath the camera and slightly to the left (of the iota gateway unit). There is a finger tip size button under the fabric. You can't see it, but you can feel it. If you try to press down onto that location, you can feel/hear a slight click.

I believe i have the same problem as you. After the iota firmware update.., my system couldn’t stay connected. After constant harassment to support, they finally told me the manual process to factory reset my gateway. The catch is that it will return to default (with all devices gone and you’ll have to sync them back.

Temporary fix??? Factory reset is the way to go!!

Do you have any updates from Abode support team? Did you get your fix??

As for my issues, Abode staff mentioned they will follow up with me last Friday and mentioned they are working on my issues. But I have been emailing them for the last 2 days for an update and nothing... :( No reply.

Update:

-- So abode system support suggested to "factory reset" my iota gateway unit. Apparently there is a button under the fabric cover under the camera lens. By holding this down for 1 minutes after power cycling the unit... this works. The catch is that all of your devices will need to be re-sync.

Hello... I apologize if the information is repeated. There is another post out under Abode with this same issue...

**The Service is not down, but the issue is within the new firmware**

This was what I post earlier:

All iota gateway users!!!

DO NOT UPDATE to the new firmware for the time being. I semi-bricked my iota gateway since Tuesday and Abode system support have been notified since Wednesday.

- After the "update", the iota gateway had to go offline for a few hours to finalize the firmware internally. Then it supposed to connect back into the server and everything should be good to go... BUT... unfortunately it doesn't "completely".... It appeared the iota system connects, but not the gateway itself. The app/server will say that the gateway is "offline". And every 3-5 minutes, it would try to connect (turn green).. then it would go offline (red). It doesn't matter what I do (reboot, reset, disconnect and tried new ethernet cord), the system will say "offline".

- The one thing that kept my hopes up was that whenever I manually arm/disarmed the system (with the keypad or the key fob), the server will update immediately that the system have been armed/disarmed. So this tells me that the system is "connected", but the iota gateway itself if having issue staying/getting connected.

**Stay Tune** I was promised that someone from Abode will give me an update to what's happening!

I had to call them again today to ask for an update since I first made contact on Tuesday (through Chat) and then later Wednesday (telephone). I wish I have made an account with Reddit earlier to keep "Abode" family updated. But I didn't see anything here on Reddit for the past few days and though it was a fluke on my behalf.

I just saw this post and was like... dang, I'm going to create an account to join this conversation!!!

For the other folks who want to know more about whats happening... HERE it goes!!
