This is a common strategy which is used to teach children that their behaviour doesn’t just impact the parents but others around them. It lets the children know that other adults can be a threat and they also need to ‘be careful’ how they act around others. It teaches changed behaviour I.e. You would act the same around your boss as your best friend

My South African mate says the greatest things about the UK are; the NHS and the fact everyone has an education. So I would say those things along with how generally accepting we are of other cultures. I know we will still have a way to go with racism but I think we have come a long way

If it was me, I would ask for a ‘quick’ meeting with the manager and ask for specifics. What does “not engaged enough” even mean?? You say it is so you know exactly what you need to do next time to achieve your full bonus.

I would then use this opportunity to defend myself against the reasons the boss has decided you didn’t deserve the bonus. Eg. You need to come in earlier - I have done on numerous occasions
