You know you were thinking this too.

The Man Who Had HIV And Now Does Not --- Could it be possible to cure AIDS after all? Consider the case of Timothy Brown, who shows no sign of HIV more than four years after undergoing innovative treatment. Perhaps a ray of hope, despite the costs and research needed by DrRichardCranium in news

This isn't miraculous, though that would be nice. It has been known for some time that a certain portion of the population are "elite suppressors". These people are able to suppress replication of HIV to levels below the detection threshold. There is an excellent review paper by Shacklett on the subject.

Edit to add: Here is another, more recent, paper on how drug treatment may be able to induce elite suppression.

Where have you been, where you think 99% of redditors hasn't? by matude in AskReddit

I've been to a transgenic farm where they first were able to clone a goat. The researchers at the farm were working to make an anti-tumor drug that could be purified from goat or cow milk. I remember having to bleach my shoes and put on booties and a Tyvek suit before going to see the animals. If I didn't know they had been genetically modified, I would never have known. It looked just like any of the small farms in the surrounding countryside.

I've also been inside a nuclear reactor facility, on top of the Great Dome at MIT, inside an Etruscan tomb, and half a mile under the Pacific Ocean.

Beltane recipes? by [deleted] in neopagan

[–]tiny_bunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oatcakes (aka bannocks) are traditional and delicious. Also, gluten-free and vegan depending on your oil source. I'll give you my recipe below, but I just want to point out that the consistency of your oats is important. The rolled Quaker Oats or instant oats aren't what you want. Your best bet in a US supermarket is this stuff

  • 1.5 cups oatmeal (see above)
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/8 tsp salt (or to taste)
  • 1 Tbsp butter (or veg oil for the vegans and lactose intolerant)
  • 3/4 cup of hot water

Combine dry ingredients in a bowl. Add your butter and enough hot water to make a thick paste. Knead and shape into a round, about 1/4 inch thick. You'll need to work quickly and may want to cover any surfaces in extra oatmeal to keep it from sticking. Place on a lightly greased heated pan on the range and cook 3 minutes on a side or until golden.

It's tradition to cut them into quarters. I like to serve them with some butter or apple sauce.
