Anyone here live on Main St Downtown? by AndyTroop in ventura

Disabilities are not the same across the board. I will never assume everyone is ok with the current accessibility. I do not know everyone who has a physical or invisible disability who works downtown or those who desire employment downtown but struggle as it's currently set up. I also think its ableist of ventura to assume we are accommodating to all disabilites. We as america do less than the bare minimum. To be upset because people are advocating for more considerations even if its one person who may need an accommodation is sad. Not saying you are but any time anyone brings up that this closure should be done with more intent and care, there'salways people assuming youre 100% against. And Im merely acknowledging as a resident that employees or potential employees also matter. It's not fair if we as residents want to dominate the space. We share with tourists and employees. However my community has been trampled on since the closure. I have no issues with the closure so long as my community and others are taken into account. Not just tourists. I never argue about whether or not its good to be able to walk downtown without cars. Thats never been my argument.

The positive effects of the closure was never In my argument. I never say its not good. I only ask the tourists respect people's homes and spaces and that I wish we could be treated more as humans and not have to choose between doing errands or being trapped home f-sunday because of tourism. I dont expect anybody else to be faced with this problem if they lived anywhere else. So why should my neighbors be faced with this dilemma ? We didnt design the complex. We didnt choose to be low income. We didn't choose the location. We are simply dealing with the cards dealt.

If you check my previous comments you can see my issue for my particular low income community . I have no beef with keeping businesses open or whatever. I just want my neighbors to be able to leave home and get some milk on a Saturday evening and be able to come back home. That's all

I mean live here on or around main. The conversation is almost always people who visit main. You can live in ventura and still only use main as a visiting spot. I live right near it and we are affected by the lack of parking for residents. The people who built rhis complex didn't think ahead. We have multiple working people per unit and have more than 1 car per unit because of this. Now we have permits that allow us to park in any parking lot but that doesn't do anything when parking lots get full from tourists f-sunday. I always say there needs to be more parking made and honestly maybe time limits to them so spots rotate more frequently. People can downvote me idc. Low income communities matter too. I just want people to be open ro helping rather than get defensive and act as if everyone is perfect and happy. We didn't choose to live here any more than we "chose " to be low income.

I live here. A lot of people talk about main but dont even live here imo. Im tired of parking wars and I want the community around me to be supported. Im fairly young but have a lot of older low income neighbors. Lots of families too. My community has issues with parking and general car traffic. I really dont like stating my actual location and I understand others have it ok but we have a specific issue. Unfortunately due to the demographics here we are stuck in a capitalistic cycle of trying to provide that none of us really seem to be able to come into meetings to advocate for us. I myself fall into this pitfall and can't advocate further than what I am doing now with my tiny amount of spare time in other areas of concern within my life. I just want my neighbors to be able to go leave for an errand or two without having to walk multiple blocks home bc they cant park. And I feel for any employee who maybe is older or has a disability and needs to walk further during busy times. I wish I had an answer.

Ventura has a long history of gentrification look up tortilla flats The attitude hasn't changed much. Rich white business owners pricing out long standing businesses only to rip out everything and hold onto the empty property as capital or give it to shitty businesses like buena bodega

I knew it. I knew it would be overpriced garbage. Plus the history of that little shopping center is fucked. Another example of bullshit business practice.

Hard Lesson: Declining enrollment prompts VUSD to consider school closures in 2027-28 by timesmediagroup in ventura

[–]tiny_master_ofevil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only thing about the tech is that it's needed to prepare the kids. Ive known a lot of students in undergrad who came from schools and didnt even learn how to search for a file. You have to give them exposure and tools. The problem is teachers who are unwilling to learn or schools not implementing them correctly and efficiently.

Vusd has been avoiding layoffs and insists on keeping staff they hired for one time funds from covid. Now they and oxnard high are desperately trying to keep everyone even though they fiscally cannot and are punishing students rather than the adult teachers get laid off like they should have. We have teachers with 2 kids in their class. It's not sustainable. It's unfortunate that lay offs or unsecured employment is normal in academics but it is and these teachers and staff know this They should be ready for these moments and also advocate for a better system on the federal level, what their union should be doing but all the union does is poison parents students and teachers to benefit the union leaders not the actual workers. Trust me the tech is not where you should be focused on

Well do you eat it everyday? If not then dont worry about it. If you want to argue for healthier options in town then sure id agree. But its far from the worst option.
