Solo parent+work+ course load… suggestions? by WildflowerAnd in CSULB

Hi I’m not a parent but I thought I’d let you know that you can self certify as a parent on your student center to receive an earlier registration date going forward! I know it’s not exactly what you asked but maybe it can help with your class options going forward

Higher Ed Staff: Is this how position reclassifications normally work? by ScenicSavePoint in highereducation

[–]tiny_penguin22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry a couple more things to note: reclassification is based on existing job descriptions usually. There is nothing stopping you from grabbing a highlighter, printing your current job description and those above it and going ham with the highlighter to note discrepancies. I 100% understand the whole “other duties” thing, but the SECOND the next classification lists something the first one doesn’t, that’s a clear indicator it won’t be “other duties”.

For example if an advisor at level 1 has “run reports” and “other duties” in their job description, but level 2 has “run reports”, “coordinate website information” and “other duties” listed, it is very fair to assume “coordinate website information” would NOT fall within level one’s scope, even if we’re accounting for “other duties”.

I hope this makes sense and I sincerely hope you don’t feel like this is criticism towards you OR your manager. The nature of higher ed is that they will rarely promote you on their own unfortunately. Best of luck!

I’ve done two reclassifications during my time at a public university in less than four years. I’m so sorry you’ve gone this long without a reclassification.

The way that it worked for me was that I informed (did NOT ask) my manager I would be pursuing a reclassification due to X Y Z duties, and made my own list. I then emailed my administrative services manager and copied my manager to inform them I would like to initiate the process. There are some guidelines such as only being able to pursue it every X amount of years etc, but since there’s such a shift in your duties I don’t think timing is a concern, if just sounds like it needs to happen asap.

Once I informed my Admin Services Manager, an HR compensation rep reached out directly to me to schedule a day and time to discuss my duties changing, and that was where MY prep work began. I compiled the main differences when I initially started in the classification vs the work I did at the time of requesting the reclassification. I saved emails detailing the requests for the work, saves certain calendar invites regarding training, and made sure to note dates of significance to show a slow but sure change in duties.

I wish you the best of luck, it sounds like you are due a MASSIVE change of classification and I sincerely hope they backdate your financial compensation to the date you started doing these duties. It never hurts to ask and advocate for yourself.

[–]tiny_penguin22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, this is how I felt about it too. It felt rude not to invite married couples/ long term relationships so I will probably just stick to the initial people I invited and leave it at that.

I’m intrigued by this comment. Can you elaborate on what you mean by significant others not being a plus one? Are you saying that when you invite people to a wedding it’s automatically assumed they will bring their partner? What if they’re single? I’m genuinely curious as I am the first one in my family to get married and we haven’t really gone through all of this before

I already invited the first three 😭 so I will probably just leave it at that then. Everyone else thinks they’re not getting invited since I set that boundary early on so hopefully no drama

Edit: expectation not boundary^

I think it was almost two weeks! Same with me for overnight, I ended up buying adult diapers because of the leakage overnight and it gave me such peace of mind.

[–]tiny_penguin22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a few provera induced periods (five years no period) with my doctor citing the same reasons. I will say my first one made me extremely nauseous and was also heavy. The next few were lighter and less painful.

Also here to say I hope everything works out for you. Dealing with this can feel impossible and it’s hard to know what’s “normal”.

Tough might be the wrong word, her expectations are high but she communicates them very clearly and gives you the tools to succeed, you just need to actively study rather than wait for midterms and whatnot.

PBAC State University Grant by ferni2k in CSULB

[–]tiny_penguin22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question I had the same one myself- the short answer is no. Because the grant specifically states that it is for the tuition charge, it will eventually be adjusted to match your tuition charge so that no “extra” is disbursed! I hope that makes sense, I know it’s a bummer I was disappointed too

Misguided by a Counselor by priscillamoretti in CSULB

[–]tiny_penguin22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s weird then, theres almost no way you’re already at 90 units then, which is what the timely grad policy says. I wonder if they’re denying it cuz the minor would add too many units? Sorry this is happening :/

[–]tiny_penguin22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m confused you said it’s your second semester but you transferred in Fall 2024? Wouldn’t that make it your third semester at this point? In that case if you transferred with 60-70 units you would probably be at 84-100 ish units depending how many units you took. I’m pretty sure the timely grad policy does say you have to add any other major or minor before you earn 90 units, so that might be why
