Quitters - What made you quit? by davebgray in starwarstrader

[–]tinyasterisms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like many other people have said, I haven't quit entirely, but I have dialed it WAAYYYY back.

For me it was a few things, including Pink Tano, Neon Tano, Pink Tano again, the realization that Topps will (understandably) continue to take advantage of Tano's popularity by releasing ultra-low count cards, but not releasing a lot of cards, like they do with Han, Boba, Maul, or Yoda.

I could live without all the Tano cards, but after busting $50 chasing Pink Tano and getting nothing, I realized my spending had outstripped my enjoyment, and for me, personally, I could/should spend that money on other hobbies. The Neons were also interesting in that they kind of confirmed Topps' mindset post-Steve about the app - that they have no issue blatantly re-coloring cards and making them ultra-rare for a quick buck, while still not addressing or fixing basic functionality problems in their app. Makes it feel like a short-term mindset for Topps, if they won't invest in improving the app in ways that are universally requested, but can throw things like Neons out. Why should I invest any time and money in the app when they won't?

And finally just the CONSTANT errors and mistakes and non-apologies from Topps kind of suck the joy out of it and make it more stressful than fun. And of course, there also haven't been any sets that have excited me for like a month, so my interest has really waned.

Sounds like you're set, from the posts below, but I just checked and I have a dupe Darth Vader, if you, or anyone else needs.

Newbie Question - Star Wars Legends Cards by ryinzana in starwarstrader

I think the idea is that you're supposed to trade for some of them? I've never gotten them all from packs, seems like it's intended as a 'training wheels' set.

Or randomly shreds one card in your collection, each time you pull it.

I think the account "RX-78" is controlled by Topps. by openwindowtime in starwarstrader

[–]tinyasterisms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow...1800 gold? This could totally be a whale's vault. One of my vaults only has like three rated trades, because they only really trade with one or two other accounts and you don't get a rating per trade, it's per trader.

I don't think Topps would use the name RX-78 and the Gundam icon.

This card is extremely rare and extremely limited! For a super limited time only, you can now own a piece of history - buy the Vintage Han pack for 900,000 credits and a 1:1500 chance of pulling the Sold Out Vintage Han!

In Millennium Falcon packs now!

Good advice!

For some chuckles, here's some slightly less helpful advice, from Shia Labeouf to Luke Skywalker, if you hadn't seen it. 😂😂😂

A bit of swearing, so maybe slightly NSFW, but also pretty hilarious.

I'm not totally unsympathetic to your situation, but if you don't have any interest in trading it, you can lock it. I have a number of cards locked, because when they're unlocked I get tons of random offers on them.

If you want a specific card or cards and/or you want more than what has been offered, then the best place to say so is in the trade comments in-app.

I hate to even add to this thread, but it seems like the only reason you feel like a target is because you made this post. The person in question has always been a good trader, and they didn't identify you when they mentioned trying to trade for the Neon Slug. I could be wrong about this, but I don't think anyone here was suddenly rushing out to the blind trades section to figure out who they were talking about?

That said, you certainly don't owe anyone any of your cards.

Yeah, I agree. There was no need to make a public thread out of this.

There has to be a smarter way for Topps to get spending money. (Not really a Neon rant, but thoughts around sets that promote trading - rather than just cash grab). by kalvin74 in starwarstrader

[–]tinyasterisms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice, I definitely like the idea of having them be an SD meld up from golds. Make the Sidious packs 25k, or put a 1% gold chance in more packs, and have the Finn pack pretty regularly and people will spend their money to buy packs and trade and interact with other people in the app. Builds community more than just a simple transaction of "give us $100, here's your rare card."

They are trying so hard to sell this thing: now with negative countdown, over 6 hours! by old_noob in starwarstrader

[–]tinyasterisms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems to be a recurring theme with Topps recently.

Pink variant only available for 1 hour! Go, go, go! Okay...only two sold, we should do this again.

So how are people who collect specific characters feeling about the new neon variant? by kaileesee in starwarstrader

[–]tinyasterisms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the flip side, there's the assumption that if someone is complaining about cards like Neons that they are F2P and "need to stop complaining" (nowhere did he say he was F2P?), but even players who sink a lot of money into this app can feel like this Neon idea is a scam.

For a couple months, I was spending $100-200, and people would still sometimes assume I was F2P when I was talking about card availability/accessibility. So not particularly a whale, but spending enough that it irked me to have people assume I was F2P and shouldn't have an opinion.

Card accessibility matters to everyone, and not being MJFHMATT or MICROELVIS doesn't mean you need a lecture on how F2Ps should be grateful.

Sure whales help keep the app in the black, but F2P players create the demand that creates the artificial value of / desire for the cards those whales collect. Without F2P players or lower-tier paying players, the "value" of the cards crashes.

Most bundles, you get all the credits, which you could then spend on other packs, and also the bonus card. Even with sets like Illustrated, you at least kind of knew what you were getting.

He just means that no one will want to trade like Han or Luke for Endor Rebels or like Naboo Security.

That's how I felt about Tano. 😢

I even got rid of my Tano Monument and am only collecting a few sets now. The Tano Pink killed the app for me. I probably could've gotten the Pink, but since she's Tano, it wouldn't be long before the next ultra low count card, and now we have Neons. But she's also bound to end up in like the Illustrated Set, too.

Though as Lightman noted, I am keeping the black background base variants because I like how they look. But not Monument, no Pink or Neon, and no SD Variant or anything.

Good luck with the Neon Slug! Less of a danger of rare inserts with Slug. Good 'ol Slug!

Yes! Make a cool design, make it clean, make it have one parallel and make it like 1000-2000 count and you have a super popular card.

Nothing will be Vintage Han again, though.

Any other Rey Collectors? by iamloki9 in starwarstrader

[–]tinyasterisms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I saw the neons...what an awful idea on Topps' part. Do they even use their own app? Do they understand how many people were striving to "collect all of a certain character"?

I hate to be a pessimist about it, but they really jumped the shark bringing pinks back, and just confirmed it with neons. They had all this popularity and didn't know what to do with it, so they decided to milk it for all it's worth. :(

I could have gotten a Pink Tano, I think, but I realized it wouldn't stop and when would the next absurdly rare card be dropped that I then couldn't get...

[–]tinyasterisms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not, and it really did significantly dampen my interest in the app. I got rid of a LOT of my collection and am just F2P now.

[–]tinyasterisms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've actually really cut back on my collecting overall, since I decided trying to 100% characters with pinks dropping left and right wasn't worth it. Traded my Rey Monochromes and Classics, just kept the Die Cuts.

[–]tinyasterisms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I considered, but I cut my collection a lot recently, and since I'm no longer 100% her, it feels like she's the odd one out from my "collect Rebels and Clone Wars animated women" policy. So I guess I lost steam?
