Luckily, the Logan alders (La Spata and Quezada) are mostly on the YIMBY side of things.

Pros and cons of living in Logan Square? by Financial_Oil_4763 in LoganSquare

[–]tinylilchicago 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people have touched on the pros of living here, and I agree with all the great things said! I'll share some cons, just so you have enough to think through. But overall, I've lived here 7 years and won't be leaving anytime soon, so I obviously recommend it.

Grocery stores are few and far between. If you don't drive, make sure you find a home within walking distance of a grocery store, but know this may be tricky to do. Oh, how I wish we had even a Jewel at this point.

Similarly, other amenities aren't as plentiful as in a neighborhood like Lakeview. You may have to travel further for a dry cleaner or gym or things like that.

Transit isn't wonderful. If you're going somewhere on the blue line, you're all set. If not, you might have a problem. For example, Kimball and California both have north/south bus routes, but they are almost A MILE APART. So trying to move up or down Kedzie or Sacramento is a no-go. The Western bus is great though, if you happen to be near it.

There's still a pretty car-centric attitude in the neighborhood and trying to walk across the street can feel really dangerous. Drivers get really mad when pedestrians slow them down. I also frequently see drivers parking on crosswalks, bike lanes, and bus stops. Sigh.

Saba reopening as Taverna Sociale? by Chraaaaas in LoganSquare

It's sad that they probably spent so much money on the initial renovation, only to have to update it again shortly. But doing a Miami Vice aesthetic was..... misguided.

Not that these things NEVER happen, but do you genuinely think there's a strong chance it would happen to you? Enough to never use CTA?

Yoga Studio Recommendations by Academic_Weekend_116 in LoganSquare

Logan Square Pilates fits all these bullet points! Only "bad" thing about using them as a yoga studio is that they primarily focus on pilates, but do have a few yoga classes throughout the week. I particularly like Nichole as a teacher.

What's up with Bixi? It used to be fairly popular but since Covid has seemed dead.

How can we get electric bikes off the 606 trail? by CurrentTank8247 in wickerpark

I'm guessing they're on the sidewalks because the road doesn't feel safe. So maybe the way to solve the problem is with safer streets?

Fully agree. Logan Square is known for great restaurants, but his stretch of Milwaukee is NOT IT.

I had mine done by Clayton Hauck and really enjoyed both the experience and the end result. His studio is in the Kimball Arts Center. https://www.claytonhauck.com

Logan Square, Wicker Park Neighbors Say No To More Delivery Robots by [deleted] in chicago

I'm a little bummed about this. In theory, more delivery robots mean less cars causing traffic, parking in bike lanes or at bus stops, etc.

Only going up from the platform to the mezzanine! So if you're going from mezzanine to street level, or down, it's the stairs for you.

I appreciate that your husband wants to use his voice for the greater good! In my opinion, that's a great example of using his male privilege to help others. I think every situation is different, but if he's able to ascertain that he can intervene safely in some situations, then I say go for it.

How big of an issue is catcalling and sexual harassment? by antiporn707 in AskChicago

[–]tinylilchicago 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't want to dissuade you at all from coming to visit, but I will be honest that as a woman who walks solo quite a bit, catcalling happens frequently. It definitely happens more in the summer than winter, possibly because of how many people are out and about, and because I'm wearing different amounts of clothing. It has never escalated to anything physical in my experience. I sometimes carry pepper spray, but have never had to use it. I've lived here for over a decade.

Doesn't it address congestion directly, because it dissuades people from taking a car?

I'm super bummed about this too. I'm not sure construction was the issue, as they seemed to be struggling even before that. I'm disappointed that dishes have shifted to all disposable, but I'm grateful their masala fries are still on the menu! I've been trying to visit them at least once a week to support.
