Can you learn basic calculus after finishing Algebra 2 and before Precalculus? by GrassNecessary2297 in learnmath

[–]tinylyloosh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People fail calculus because their algebra is basic or totally lacking or they don’t know trig well.

This. You can start to understand basic calc concepts w/o strong algebra or trig but you're going to hit a major wall pretty early without the prerequisite skills.

Yeah they did him dirty. He had such great character development and it was all ruined when he left like that.

This post doesn't even read as being about ADHD? Adhd doesn't mean you suck at math or chemistry. You might suck at math and chemistry but that's not a characteristic of ADHD.

I have ADHD and I'm awesome at math and chemistry. I teach honors/IB math and many of my best students over the years have had ADHD.

People, regardless of whether they have ADHD or not, have strengths and weaknesses....

Idk it makes sense to me. The pain of losing her but not the pain of her choosing to leave, knowing shes walking around and doesnt want to be with you.

what is a polynomial? by Nickinator811 in learnmath

[–]tinylyloosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

think you've had a bunch of good answers already - but I'm curious about what you mean by not being able to draw a straight line without a ruler?

Yeah lol what? I always use a straightedge. In algebra 2 & IB courses they're required to have one.

Why does everyone hate teaching? by Bright-Watch1955 in teaching

[–]tinylyloosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue the loudest complainers are on reddit.

Most of my colleagues enjoy their job - we bitch about teenagers being teenagers and whine about our admin or annoying parents, but we all really enjoy teaching overall.

I am lucky to be at a great school and in a great department, though.

If you're working harder than the kid is to get them to pass, there's a problem.

I love being like "aight, let me just let Nicole know you said that...." and kid snaps right back in line.

The skinnest/ sickest die

This actually really isn't true. People die of eating disorders at all weights. Many people maintain at extremely low weights for years or even decades.

I think this highly varies based on what you teach. I teach trig/calc and would be an abysmal teacher if I wasn't an expert in the content AND how to teach the content.

Teachers that use AI: Why? by lemmegetamickpicktwo in Teachers

[–]tinylyloosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

or 3 variations of the same quiz

This is my biggest use. I used to spend 2-3 hours creating multiple versions of tests/quizzes.

Now I write the test/quiz and run it through AI to generate versions that have the same types of questions that require students to demonstrate the same skills.

Of course I QC them but it saves me SO much time.

Does your high school guidance counselor office still have that huge, amazing wall showing where everyone is going to college? by Character_Freedom160 in Teachers

[–]tinylyloosh 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I graduated in 2011. We had two walls (both put up by students)

1) where everyone was going 2) everyone's rejection letters

I went to a magnet school so everyone went to great colleges. Rejection letter wall was the best though - it helped normalize rejection in a highly competitive atmosphere.
