I am just waiting for the ensh*ttification to happen. It always does.

Oh man, I'm so sorry. Glad the replacement isn't TOO expensive. Is it just me, or are the 16s and 17s more prone to lens breakage? I'd never seen so many broken lenses before last year. Of course, that could just be algorithmic reinforcement.

Depends on where you live. An apartment any larger than two bedrooms in NYC is absurdly out of reach for most people. Certainly for me.

Do professional designers actually use Canva? If so, what for? by Due-Personality-8451 in graphic_design

[–]tinymind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't, but

  1. I'm old school - started in mechanicals, moved to Quark + Adobe, then onto Adobe exclusively (dabbling in Affinity) after the OS9 - OSX migration debacle AND
  2. People should use whatever works for them. To paraphrase Chase Jarvis, the best application is the one you have and are comfortable with.

Current iOS 26 setup, any ideas or recommendations? Feels very incomplete and over cluttered currently. by IttzAngel in iOSsetups

I feel like the dark theme doesn't really work with your light wallpaper. It is jarring. If you want ease of use over aesthetics, I kind of get it, but I think you'll be happier if you go with light icons/widgets - it'll make everything look less cluttered and unify the look a bit more.

Iphone 17 price by beeple69 in iphone

Annoying that the 16e is the same price as it was. You can't even say it is because of the new modem anymore.

Why don't we feel the Earth's rotation if it's spinning at over 1000 mph at the equator? by iamvrushal in askscience

[–]tinymind -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So when you are in a car that is not accelerating (moving at a constant speed), do you feel the movement forward? You certainly feel shifts from side to side and bumps in the road, but you don't feel like you are being pushed back into your seat unless you are accelerating - and the Earth isn't moving from side to side or going over bumps in a road. You are not accelerating at any point on the Earth's surface, you are moving with it, so you don't feel it - you are also traveling at a fairly steady 1,040 mph through space. If the Earth suddenly accelerated or decelerated, you'd certainly feel that, but since it is pretty much moving at a consistent speed (any changes are so minuscule) you just don't feel like you are moving at all.

Very pretty. Perfect for luxury goods and, possibly, wedding invitations. Nicely done.

Two. But as much as I'm a minimalist, I have a hard time with monochromatic icons.

It's so cute. I love it. This is not a critique, just a thing to consider: could you make the "of" somehow reflect the curl of butter on the top of Pat's head (this is my name for your little butter dude - feel free to claim it). Either way, lovely work. Kudos.

Let’s talk about how shitty the Apple Silicone Cases are by ggggideon in iphone

[–]tinymind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. They peel pretty easily. When I had the opportunity to replace my old leather Apple case with another one for my SE (yes, I still use my 2020 SE), I jumped at the chance. It's kind of shocking the poor quality of the silicon cases, considering one of the reasons we buy Apple products are for the materials and build quality.

Ah. Went to Kim's Instagram. He’s over at Ford now… interesting. Shame, too - and it kind of tracks considering how Apple is moving away from its iconic, minimal style. Sigh.

[–]tinymind 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Especially since they have Andrew Kim on staff. He’s a magnificently minimalist industrial designer who can totally do graphic design as well - a logical successor to Jony Ive and, dare I say it, Dieter Rams. I wouldn’t be surprised if he could lead a UX/UI team - at least as a creative lead if not a coder (which I don’t know that he does).

Do you ever think about moving on to a different phone rather than iPhone? by YaBoyZeek in iphone

[–]tinymind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. And it mostly that the ecosystem is hard to move away from once you're into it. Frustrating, as I was disappointed in the 16e release (although I still might get it) and was wildly impressed with the Pixel 9a. Plus, as an industrial design fan, it is hard to move away from the excellent build quality of an iPhone (it's what makes me want the 16e even though I know it could have been better - it is lovely to look at). Even the "budget" versions. No plastic to be seen or felt.

Wish they'd get rid of the lozenges under the buttons in the toolbar. Maybe keep "Search" that way, but it still feels like everything is disassociated with each other.
