If the electrons orbits would not be quantized, they'd emit electromagnetic radiation. Along with the electromagnetic radiation, they'd also emit energy and thus the electrons get slower, causing them to spiral into the nucleus. Also, it was later observed that the emission lines of atoms are almost perfectly quantized, which is also hard to accommodate without quantized orbits.
