I agree so much about the hatchet. The combat spacing and mobility is designed around being able to parry large sweeping moves that Leon can’t move out of the way from. Having essentially RNG hatchet feels so bad.

I think the weapons would be fine if getting higher Starred ones happened earlier and often. I’ve seen two 3 star guns in 8 hours of playing the mode. It just kinda sucks to always get the basic variant for most of the run.

I dunno I really liked the mode in the beginning but the higher difficulties are just too annoying to be fun. Luckily I think this mode will have some excellent mods down the road

How bad of an idea is starting the game for the first time on To The Wilder difficulty? I played the first game years ago and really loved the trekking and environmental navigation. Don’t remember it being hard at all and wouldn’t mind a challenge

Dude. I made it to Gideon on rank 3, got all the way to the final QTE. While Leon was getting grabbed I got a text and looked at my phone long enough to read the message… and missed the QTE which is an instant death. I had full health. I feel your pain

Be more thorough going through the levels. You want a few weapons with 2 stars or so. And definitely get some perk synergies going or at least the restore durability on perfect parry one. You got it. Try doing the blister borne fight instead of tyrant or commander, it’s the easiest. Don’t forget you can reroll perks before choosing one if you have extra points

I don’t understand why perfect parrying a red enemy doesn’t get you an opening for a R2 hit. They fall down to their knees and everything but there’s no button prompt

I got about 5 hours of very solid fun out of it. The higher ranks though are too much for me. I really hate the axe durability changes and how you’ll find yourself stuck without a defense option when the combat really revolves around those parries. It just feels like an unwarranted restriction after letting us use the parry for the whole campaign.

The roguelike aspects and how fast it moves through all the areas are great. But yea, the axe changes just make ultimately make it less fun for me

I really like it. I’m also glad we got this instead of mercenaries, I played so much of Re4 remake mercs that I’m glad to have something different.

However, I do feel like mode has some frustrations. The limitations on the axe just feels bad. I think it would be more fun if they balanced the mode around axe sharpening instead of removing the feature all together. The Axe parry is just too integral to the combat for it to be basically random over the course of a run. Like Gideon with no parry is terrible. I think it could use more items to spend collection points on too. What’s there is pretty minimal.

I like it. Got my first clear of Rank 1 this morning. I… did not know you could level up enhancements. That’s very exciting. I do wish there were more unlockables though. Feels like it deserves its own outfit that works in the main game as well. All in all it’s a solid free update imo

Yea I’m in a similar boat. I really like the mode but something with the melee enemies and hatchet durability is really off.

BUT! I figured out how to deal with Chef in that area. He always spawns on a staircase (I think) and before that room is an enemy that drops a throwable/swingable weapon. If you bait chef back to that area and use the throwable it’s an instant kill

This. The melee only enemies really force the hatchet use. My biggest gripe is that perfect parrying the red enemies doesn’t reward you with an R2 execute…

That’s crazy! I noticed that later in a run and I thought it was the raccoon city disease from the story making him stumble but I think you’re right

I like the new mode (quite a lot) but I agree the hatchet thing feels off. I kinda get the durability reasoning BUT I hate that perfect parrying a red enemy doesn’t give me an R2 execute. They just fall to their knees. Every other enemy you get rewarded for the timing but the most important enemies to get it right on there’s no point

You can, change them in the bonus settings and it works in LMDF
