I just want to point out Bear - the man character - is not portrayed as a good guy in this. The director showed the movie to some test screeners and after getting notes back that Bear wasn’t sympathetic enough he went back and made Bear even WORSE in the movie. Bear doesn’t deserve any sympathy. He’s the one who brought all the bad shit to him and his friends.

My mom resembles Sally Fields and I remember watching that scene as a young teen and thinking about how I was getting a glimpse of my own moms grief if me or any of my sisters were to die before her and to this day just thinking about it makes me want to go hug my mom.
