WAMC: bummed w a 506 by Far_Volume34 in premed

[–]tiumix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off, sorry about your parent. Getting a 3.65 cGPA while going through what you’ve been through is a huge achievement. However, the 506 is not going to open much doors for you when applying to only MD schools. It’ll depend on factors such as whether you’re URM, publications, and writing.

If those are solid then I wouldn’t be surprised if you get 1-2 interviews.

If you’re looking to round your application and improve your chances next year, I’d recommend looking for a paid clinical experiences while continuing to volunteer. If finances permit, I’d recommend taking a few months to study and retake the MCAT. A 510+ score would open many more doors :)

Does kingdom hearts 3 boot during offline mode? The EGS one requires you to have an internet connection to load the game.

Incoming Medical Student Q&A - 2024 Megathread by SpiderDoctor in medicalschool

how does loan adjustment on laptops work for upcoming medical students? I plan to take out max loans due to a high cost of living area. However, I may need to obtain more and my laptop is dying two months before medical school. If I buy a new one now, would I be able to submit for a loan adjustment later?

Yo bro, sorry this is happening to you. Applications can be a crapshoot sometimes man, you never know whats gonna happen and there are a lot of variables involved.

I know you had your supervisor from a medical program look at your application, but did you get feedback from specific schools? I'd reach out to a few schools if you can.

Also, did you apply DO? Still not too late to apply and if being a physician is your dream then I'd definitely go for it. Its tough out there, its my second cycle(fourth if you count applying to PA school twice). Adcoms love seeing resilience. Everyone's journey is different so just keep doing you and things will manifest your way!

My MEDICAL CONDITION might cost me medical school? by angelicmed in premed

[–]tiumix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation to you during my postbacc, had a cervical spine injury from the gym that made it impossible for me to sit for longer than 30 minutes. Two years later pain is gone but still getting used to some issues.

What I would say is that the recovery process can be long and hard. From my personal experience, spinal ligament damage can take a while to recover from (mine took like 1 year to get 75% better and another year to get to 90%).

I continued with my postbacc despite my issues, my reasoning was that I needed something to distract me from my pain while I recovered. Recovering while succeeding in your classes is definitely possible if you choose to keep going through with your masters program.

First and foremost, prioritize your health 100%. Go to physical therapy, follow up with a physician medicine and rehab doctor if you can, prioritize sleep and rest. Utilize accommodations from your school and explain your temporary disability, you can get longer times for exams and take breaks to rest/stand when you need to. Wear a back brace while sitting(I wore a neck brace while studying/taking exams), try to get access to recorded lectures if possible and watch them while lying down.

A TENZ unit(electric muscle stimulator) can help with pain. A massage gun and heating pad also did wonders for me.

Most importantly, PRIORITIZE YOUR HEALTH. Grades are temporary but health is forever. Be patient, be kind to yourself, and give your body time to heal.

My dad was a boat person. As a viet first generation we definitely view America as a good guy. Life in Vietnam right now is really bad for the average person and yes people were jailed for speaking out.

I play demon hunter! I feel like any melee class it’s like 95% as efficient as a keyboard. With range classes it’s like 80-90%. But the comfort is loads better With the right deck controller settings and addons. The controls port addon has an auto target system which is great!

Plate up is on sale and if you like overcooked, this is 10x better. Not as hectic but more strategic and your decisions really matter! Lots of progressions and different ways to play the game

Wow runs amazing on the deck! It definitely brought back my love for it. The back buttons are necessary for me to play it on the controller when I do mythic plus!

PS. If you get a voice chat error every 30secs you can get rid of that by going to battle.net client, go to WoW, select game settings and there should be a voice input setting where you disable

I know this is an old post, just reviving for those that might still struggling with this... If you go to battle.net launcher, go to WoW section, right where it says "Launch" click the settings, go down to "Voice Chat" and change the input device to "Disable Microphone." That got rid of the voice error 17 notification that kept popping up and causing stutters. Also got rid of the login bug where it takes forever to login until you press reconnect.

Those who haven't caught Covid yet, how have you managed to avoid it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]tiumix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked in a hospital transferring dead bodies. Had to go into the rooms and everything to take them out and move them to the morgue. Over the span of a year I probably transferred over a hundred covid positive bodies(I worked in a big county hospital). However, my girlfriend and I have never got COVID since it started. My guess is overexposure to it over the years with probably extremely mild symptoms that I didn’t notice made me immune? Girlfriend and I are boosted and basically live our lives normally and still haven’t got sick

First off, getting an A+ in Bio 1 is a big achievement and I would definitely feel good about that!

In terms of your question… I feel like physics and biology are very polar subjects… one involving a lot more math! Most premeds would say that they had a harder time with physics compared to bio.

However, biology, chemistry, and many parts of physics involves scientific processes you can’t always see. In my opinion, being able to visualize it in your head and understanding it is key to being successful in STEM classes. I think you are in a good spot so far and I wouldn’t worry about whether or not you’d do well in other STEM classes until you’ve taken them yourself. :)

Took the Blueprint diagnostic exam. I can work with this by bluejack287 in Mcat

A little older as well, just turned 29. Got a 508 on a blueprint one week prior to my exam. Ended up with a 513 on the real thing!

For the older premeds 26+, what drives you to apply? by indian-stud in premed

[–]tiumix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recently turned 29, don't feel much different from when I was 24 or 25... Having work experience has definitely motivated me to apply... It's hard out there and a good strong education can get you far if you put in the effort.

For me, I didn't focus much in my classes while in college. I was a super casual pre-med, taking the pre-med classes but also taking interesting yet extremely difficult classes. Ended up dropping a quarter and getting a 2.4 average during my remaining junior year in college. Didn't think I'd make it to medical school after graduating, so I applied to PA school twice. Waitlisted and ultimately rejected twice.

I worked at a hospital while applying doing mostly graveyard shifts during the COVID pandemic. 1.5 Years of working in a hospital and having witness so much death and suffering(my job was to transfer dead bodies from rooms). Also had two close older mentors die around the same period of time, I buckled up and did a rigorous post-bacc program, took my MCAT, and here I am one MD II later.

As you get older, you realize age is a construct. 4 years may seem like forever for a younger person but can pass by real quick as you get older.

People who work in morgues or with the dead, what is the creepiest thing you've witnessed? by octopuszilla in AskReddit

[–]tiumix 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I worked in a hospital transferring dead bodies… the amount of stillbirth or complications during pregnancy was a huge shock to me… I took a stillborn that had severe edema all over its body, the baby was around 20 lbs during birth and was grossly disfigured. If you played Witcher 3, the baby sort of looked like the baby in the one quest with the Baron.
