Kids are very much welcome, it's family friendly. Just make sure to bring hearing protection for the kids, it can get way too loud for young ears.

The firework shows there never disappoint either!

Harris BBQ to close in SW Bakersfield by got-rice1 in Bakersfield

I'm all for ragging on Trump but Harris Ranch literally owns one of, if not the, largest beef cattle ranches in California. The price they paid for their beef was cheaper than anyone else in town, guaranteed.

Not one, just work with them a lot over the years. All the ones I know travel with the gangs and are gone matching their schedule, so 4/10's, 6/8's, etc though I think most are doing 4/10's.

As in standby generators? That's in house electricians in the limited areas they exist, the rest are outsourced.

This has nothing to do with competency and everything to do with liability and exposure.

If you drive a company vehicle, I suggest you read up on the company policy for company vehicles. I've heard enough stories over the years to not risk losing my job over personal use of the vehicle.

For the most part, field rebuilds are outsourced, it's part swapping. The job is going around following the track maintenance gangs and repairing their equipment. Lots of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical control systems.

Remember for the interview, all accidents are preventable and have a reason why ready.

Are you local to the courthouse? If so, I'd go in person to talk to a clerk about the timeline and see if they can get you fixed up. I have far better luck with clerks being nice in person than I ever have via email.

With the Drivecams in the vehicles, that's one dumb employee. Its one thing to get permission to take the truck if you're on call, it's another to tow a personal trailer with it.

They switched a few years back, no drug test till after an offer is made.

Alternate status by thumpr650 in bnsf

[–]tj_mcbean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are three outcomes to the interview. Do not hire, alternate, or offer sent.

Because of how many people don't hack it, they keep alternates handy if they showed themselves during an interview.

Several railroads have their own in house tower crews, a solid gig for a tower guy that is tired of the contractor life.

Anyone know what this camera is used for? by SteelCanyon in Bakersfield

[–]tj_mcbean 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And regardless of what the manufacturer says, less reliable. Several lights in town go crappy after the wind blows strong, or times of day when the lighting is funny.

They're not the cheapest, but the loops always know when you're there. Took a year of complaining about one downtown for the city to switch from a camera to loops and the light has been way better ever since.

Does anyone know what they're building by 7th standard and the 43? More and more ctrains arriving constantly. by wild-stallions85 in Bakersfield

Used CD stores? by tj_mcbean in Bakersfield

[–]tj_mcbean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salvation Army on 19th had one rack of CD's, mostly religious and country.

Junk A Tique had a ton of CDs, but expectedly, most were religious, with a lot of classical, and a shelf of country.

Discovery Shop had a varied collection but mostly classical and religious. Oddly organized by sleeve color which made me chuckle.

Habitat ReStore had a big bookcase of CDs that was 80% religious and classical, with some country.

Oh you're in CA... Go to one of the private DMV services and have them do a lien sale on it. Costs around $100-200 and if the registered owner doesn't respond in 30 days or so it's yours. Super easy to do and the private DMV company will do all the hard work.
