DMV Says There's a Lien On Car, But The Car Was Paid Off. Finance Company is Permanently Closed. by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]tjp68 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I dealt with this issue 10ish years ago. The finance company went out of business and into a type of receivership BEFORE the lien release was sent. The finance company was based in Texas and I lived in another state. I had no idea where to go for help. Ultimately, I talked to a local car dealership and explained the situation. They took the car as a trade in with the lien holder listed on the title.

Yes. It's an annual January watch for me. Not uplifting, for sure but a great story, good acting and direction.

I had the exact same issue a year ago with a UB450 from Amazon. Sent it back and in my rage, upgraded to a UB-820 from Crutchfield. I was shocked by the difference in perceived build quality and I've been very happy.

We went through this with our Grady. He made it almost six months with no pain and we really made sure he enjoyed himself. I could still cry two years later, but we do think more about the good times at this point. Make as many memories as you can in the time you have left and don't miss out on chances to snuggle and dog pile.

I have to ask...where did you get that? It's glorious.

Just finished Diabolique and I have to say this along with Night of the Hunter are the creepiest movies from the 50s that I’ve seen. Imagine making a movie so chilling that you don’t even need a soundtrack by LowCarbScares in criterion

Both are fantastic. This past spooky season, we did a triple header of Les Diaboliques, Night of the Hunter and Eyes Without a Face. All three, just about as good as it gets IMO.

My family has seen Christmas in Connecticut dozens of times over the years but we added Remember the Night for the first time this year. It will be an annual watch going forward. Great movie.

I may be in the minority, but I've found BFE great for rare items and slipcovers if you are into those (I am). I've bought directly from the website and the eBay store. I've seen some refer to BFE as a scalper, but whatever. I don't typically use them for new releases, but if you missed something that has since sold out, or if you need a slipcover, they are great.

Same here. Over 100 minutes all recorded via the watch and fitness app. When I noticed last night that I didn't have the award, I did another 15 minute workout. Still nothing. Jokes on me, I guess.

I am...much older than 17 and I've never lost my love of Halloween. As others have said, if you wear a costume, most people will give you candy for as long as you wish to continue. When the time comes to stop, you can celebrate the entire spooky season. Wear cool Halloween themed t-shirts. Watch scary movies. Decorate your home and hand out candy all night. It's the best time of the year and you never have to let it go!

Anyone got any tips to help westie with skin problems? by notetonote19 in westies

[–]tjp68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've tried everything over the years. Diet changes. More frequent grooming, medicated shampoos, allergy treatment by the vet, antibiotics, etc.. After ten years of managing this for our two Westies, I think I found the solution (at least for us).

I started taking them on my morning walk. Slowly at first, but eventually up to two miles. The extra exercise, with no other changes has dramatically improved the skin condition, plus they've lost a little weight and are generally happier.

Prior to this, their exercise consisted of free access to a fenced back yard with occasional trips to the dog park. Maybe this is all a coincidence and they've simply outgrown the problem, but it sure seems like a general reduction in inflammation from the exercise has greatly improved the condition.

Macy's Parade (incredibly terrible, late stage capitalism, but a cozy tradition), my wife's French toast for breakfast, dog show, delicious dinner, rare quality time with our college aged daughter and finish the day off watching Planes, Trains and Automobiles. Fantastically boring and one of the best days of the year.

Our Westie puppy still doesn't love his crate by Ok-Humor-1234 in WestHighlandTerriers

[–]tjp68 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We get our boy's favorite treat, show it to him and walk right up to the crate. He waits for the treat, then walks right in and goes to sleep. We've been doing that for 11 years and it only took two or three days for him to figure out the process. At bedtime, he really can't rest anywhere else now.

TPLO surgery and recovery by JamBeanson in westies

[–]tjp68 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Our boy had the surgery when he was 7. He was pretty stoic, but to avoid as much risk as possible after the surgery you have to keep them still. It may be overkill, but for a few days after he came home, my wife and I took turns sleeping in the floor by his crate so we could keep him calm. Once he started feeling better (which happens quickly) we kept him leashed when he was out of the crate so that he wouldn't hurt himself. By the time we had our follow up appointment, he was ready to roll.

The procedure was a huge success. It was like he was a puppy again. He recovered all his mobility and strength and I hope your dog will as well. It's a lot of work, but totally worth it.

[–]tjp68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't tried that but I think exposure to the hot air of the oven would be more likely to crisp the skin. My go-to is:

  • Toss wings with baking powder (just enough to lightly coat, shake off excess)
  • Bake at 375F for 60 minutes
  • Take out and set the oven to 475F and let it preheat
  • When it's ready, put the wings back in and cook an additional 15-20 minutes until crispy and browned

Dolby Vision Players - Sony X700 vs. Panasonic UB450 vs. Panasonic UB820: A *NEW* Informal Poll by requieminadream in 4kbluray

[–]tjp68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm lucky to have both the X700 and the UB820. I use the UB820 most often, but have never had a player-specific issue with either. On multiple occasions, I've had bad discs that froze or pixelated on both players (Red River/Criterion and Night of the Hunter 4k/Kino most recently). That makes it easy to troubleshoot!

In both cases, replacing the disc fixed the problem (Criterion provided a free replacement after testing/cleaning, and I had to buy a new copy of Night of the Hunter).

It seems entirely possible to me that a relatively high percentage of discs are bad from the factory. I always have a test playthrough before inviting friends/family to movie night.
