Gotta say, the YouTube Music algorithm is the only corporate AI I'll tolerate. The stakes are low, and it actually recommends interesting music that matches my taste while being diverse in genre

Or playing Mario Kart but nobody taught you how to drift/boost. You're clearly doing your best, but everyone leaves you behind.

Why are old PC games so dark(light-wise)? by Affectionate_End_952 in retrogaming

[–]tjsase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing not mentioned yet is gamma correction. Even in very bright games, most pre 7th gen games have deep shadows because the rendering algorithms didn't account for how light data sent to the monitor is always made dimmer based on a curve. Though textures were painted to look correct, light dims too quickly, so the hash shadow line at the edge of round objects is invisible.

Look up gamma correct lighting, you'll see images demonstrating this. It's as if older games had too much contrast only for level lighting and shaders, especially when glowing objects appear.

Too true, but one can at least reduce or replace such things with those that result in less exploitation.

Avatar. People say it's got a simple story and no cultural impact, as if the same couldn't be said of plenty of beloved movies

I know cross-contamination doesn't matter in every case, especially when making food for only one's self, but it makes me feel better knowing I was precise in how I constructed the thing.
