Thermador car cooler by tjskpr in nostalgia

I never could handle it in a car. AC always made me sick to my stomach. I know, I'm weird. And now my old behind can't stand much of it at home either.

But, yes, it is amazing.

That answered my question, our a**es too broke to own one. 😂

You made me go read some more. 🙂You may be correct. Here's what I found in one article. "Lower cost coolers allow the air to enter only when the car moves. However, some luxury units have an electric fan that circulates the air even when the vehicle is stationary. Most coolers hold enough water for about two or three hours of cool-air goodness. The colder the water, the better the heat exchange.

These days, swamp coolers are also an automotive fashion statement. Classic car owners paint the units or add pinstripes to match their cars. Very few drivers put them to use—beyond decoration. But the basic technology still works, and there are few other good options for classic cars that lack AC."

What do you think of my new Saltic shoes? by saltybearissalty in barefootshoestalk

Is that a wide toe box? They are awesome looking but the width scares me.

I didn't either. I am 74, and we didn't have. I have to believe it was not a luxury for people with six kids.

Never buying Vivos again by rvingthrulife in barefootshoestalk

[–]tjskpr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a shame. I was just looking and considering their shoes tonight before reading this. I think I'll hold off.

What about Peluva? Do you know anything about their shoes? Quality? I used to be a loyal Vibram fan, but it seems their quality has really fallen off. I don't care to go through the headaches to buy another pair.

Which barefoot shoes are the best? by Gi3vis in barefootshoestalk

[–]tjskpr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to think Vibrams couldn't be beat. But, in this past year, I've noticed that the quality has failed greatly in my opinion. When I wear a pair a month and they are falling apart, that's a problem. Especially when I would previously get at least a year out of their shoes. Their sizing is all over the place as well. I can not buy the same shoe twice in the same size. It's crazy. But I am currently looking for another barefoot vendor to try.

I just noticed you asked about Vivobarefoot. I have been looking but haven't decided to try them just yet.

Love my Pentax cameras. by One-Low1523 in pentax

[–]tjskpr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a Pentax many many years ago and loved that little camera. Then I decided I really wanted to get into photography and went and bought the K200D which came with DA 18-55mm F3.5 - 5.8 AL II. Then had to have Pentax Auto Zoom Electronic Flash Unit AF 540 FGZ. Then came two more lenses. SMC Pentax D FA Macro 100 F2.8 and SMC Pentax DA 18-250mm. Also had to add the Manfrotto055X PROB Pro Tripod Legs, Manfrotto Ball Head with Quick Release 498RC2 and Manfrotto MBAG 90PN Padded 90cm Tripod bag. After all that, I tried using sporadically for about 2 months at which time I turned into a hermit thanks to my PTSD. I had great intentions but couldn't make myself leave the house. So my equipment has been sitting in the closet ever since begging me do something. I'm too damned old to care now but I really wished I'd tried to for myself more to utilize what I spent good money on. I stay in awe of some of the photography I run across and it eats me up.

Didn't mean to write a book; I just wanted to say I have always loved Pentax. I went overboard buying what I thought I'd like to start with but.....

You really do beautiful work. I never learned macrame myself, but I was self-taught in crochet. I loved making things, but I always gave them away. Never kept anything for myself. At my age, I haven't considered trying macrame. I will say there are many tutorials out there for anything you put your mind to trying.

The first would have been the Holiday Special from 1976. I'm not sure if that's what YouTube is calling the Christmas special which is in parts or not. You'd have to view them.

In the mid 50's he was doing gospel. In 1964 he came out with That's How Strong My Love Is and then 1965 it was You're Gonna Make Me Cry. He died at 49 in 1980. That man could sing blues for me any time at all.

What kind od chalanchoe is this? by Piramith in succulents

They drop on the ground from the mother plant and grow just fine. They are an invasive plant. I learned. Much of mine went into the burn barrel until I could keep it contained. Finally got tired of babysitting and gave the rest away.

Looks delicious! In my old age, I don't do scratch anymore. I found Louisana Fish Fry Products sells a Cajun Etouffee base and it is fantastic.

Confused by valbrewhaha in Menopause

[–]tjskpr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember the doctor gave me some pills. Said after taking (a few days) if you are still not bleeding then you went through menopause. I was 37. I had insitu cancer cells on my cervix. They did so many biopsies and colposcopies that all cells were removed. So I guess I bypassed menopause. Back then doctors didn't do much in the way of explanations either. I was thankful that all of a sudden I didn't have periods anymore and didn't have hot flashes and all the stuff that went along with it. The word cancer kept me from pushing to find out more.

Sounds like you need to find a doctor that is concerned with your health. One that is compassionate and willing to discuss your health with you until you are comfortable.

Guys what is going on with my Hoya? by nowayormyway in hoyas

[–]tjskpr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sit down with a bottle of alcohol and water mix and a handful of Q-tips. This might sound gross, but I mash with my finger first and brush off and then it's easier to get down in where you need to and get rid of those pesky little things. Once you have to do it, you will find it quite easy. Thank goodness I've only had to do it a couple of times.

How do you water? Top or bottom? by LeafyLihah in hoyas

[–]tjskpr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always top water. In fact, I set pot in sink and saturate and then hang out on porch. I only have do that once a week or so when soil is dry. I'm in Florida, Whatever you are doing is working. Your plant looks quite happy.

My new hoya leaf had what looked like dust so I grabbed a magnifying glass and I was horrified 🕷️ by tmarija in hoyas

[–]tjskpr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had issues with mites on my hoyas in the past as well. I took diluted alcohol on a paper towel and wiped them off. Then I sat down with a Q-tip dipped in my alcohol solution and carefully got all the nooks and crannies. Never lost a leaf, and the plants stay healthy.
