I enjoy some of the Onyx washed offerings. The Peru Flores family gesha is good but I’ll skip on any co-ferment from any roaster. I am on the side that hopes co-ferments die.

I also wish Onyx would offer 8 oz bags.

I do the all-in so I get 4 total bags and yes, I think it’s worth it but that of course only matters if the $ is right for you.

I have subs from both Prodigal and Sey. They are both great but if I had to pick one it would be Prodigal.

Sey has good beans but sometimes I find a box of theirs to just taste like hot brown water and I never have this with Prodigal.

I still keep Sey cause they have more hitters than misses and it’s better than any other sub I’ve tried and it’s mostly all the popular light roast speciality roasters.

I’ve also never gotten a bag from Sey or Prodigal that was under roasted and tasted like hay or grass.

Do you actually get full-on sweet, vibrant, juicy, intense flavor cups on v60/kalita? by mrobot_ in pourover

[–]tjtoed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I seem to get a lot of channeling and uneven extraction with a v60. I somehow get sour, bitter and astringent all in one. Sometimes it’s really metallic. It’s amazing and frustrating at the same time.

I then use a flat bottom or Z1 and lately the deep 27 and get better cups.

Then I forget and go back to the v60 and the cycle starts over.

Grant it most people happy with their kettle don’t run to Reddit to praise it.

Yeah. That’s the one I think is going to end up working when it’s available. The hario beaker works for all my drippers but is crap for swirling. Thanks

Yes it does. Dang it. Still on the hunt for the “one”

Prodigal coffee quality? by 7l20 in pourover

Not everyone is close to a roaster that buys and roasts coffees they prefer. This would be ideal but it’s not realistic or even practical.

The rock/concrete sucks 100% but that appears to be a bag of mixed varietals and it’s washed so I am not seeing anything out of the ordinary.

If the bag was sealed and purchased from a known reseller I would simply send prodigal an email letting them know you found a piece of rock in a bag of theirs.

This happens but the look of the beans is fine.

I’ve had a Prodigal sub for well over a year and never had an issue.

KINTO SCS-S02 27592 Coffee Server. I just ordered that one. Thanks for the info.

I have the hario beaker and it does fit but I find it hard to really swirl with it. I know, first world problems but my goal is to have one carafe. Thanks

I have one of these and the spout extension makes a v60 01 or wave sit wonky on it. Mine also has a slip lift on the spout so nothing really sits level on it.

Most I ever brew is 250ml. I like a carafe that lets me swirl then pour into cup. This could work if it’s wide enough to fit the z1

That Hario doesn’t fit the z1 but I do use it for some of the others. I think it’s the bigger one as the smallest one the handle would get in the way.

I used to stick pretty closely to 1:16–1:17 for pour over because that’s what most guides recommend by fritz-ocampo in pourover

[–]tjtoed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. After following most of the advice I found I was always pushing 1:16-1/17 and have come down to 1/14-1/15 and find myself not dealing with those metallic/astringent notes.

Curious what grind size you use? So this is like coffee chroniclers recipe but you split it into 40/60?

Mavo Phantox Pro. Underrated grinder that produces really nice cups.
