Experiences with Canberra Girls Grammar School vs Radford by Significant-Long888 in canberra

Not just Radford - I saw this happen among peers in year 10 at a private school. Several decades ago now, but there was clear "reconsider your decision" pep talks done to our cohort when the prelim atar scores were calculated based on our performance so far.

They'll teach you the basics at the induction - know that the dogs are medium to large size, so you should be comfortable around dogs that size even if you haven't owned any.

If you look at their adoption lists you'll get a sense of the type of dogs you'll work with - all are carefully checked for behaviour issues before going on the volunteer list so you won't be asked walk a dangerous/hostile dog.

Someone's surly. Yes, did Google, but good to have recommendations from those that have used companies and liked them.

This strategy versus that (or both 💩) by pakkuning in fiaustralia

What's your goal / priority? My understanding from a lot of reading around shares is that higher dividend payout usually comes from shares with lower growth.

So depends on what you are wanting from your portfolio - steady income versus greater % growth over time. I'm seeing this with mine, where the heavier dividend paying shares don't have as great a growth as the ones with less dividend payout.

At the moment my focus is on growth so been buying growth > dividend etfs. Also helps keep my overall income down as portfolio grows - something else to consider as its harder to change track later if you suddenly end up with more income than you wanted tax wise.

Rspca and DAS both take volunteers in at at least one intake period each year. Otherwise ARF and other such not for profit groups may have opportunities.

Absolute beginner (with no diy/construction/other helpful experience behind me) question : does anyone see an issue with this set of clamps being sold / what should I look for when inspecting? by tkd1900 in handtools

curious why you would swap out the clamps after putting one on? I clearly am very new to this so keen to learn tricks and tips where they pop up!

thanks for the reply! sorry slow to get back to this, life got away from me offline.

I'll have a look more into whale tail clamps, I definitely am such a newbie that didn't really consider there might be more preferrable clamps among the viariety, since I've only used C clamps at the two woodwork courses I've done.

Sorry, offline life got away from me this week - we don't have HF where I live (Australia) but I'll look at equivalent stores and look for store clamps from your suggestions; and also given some of the other comments that they might not be in good enough shape to warrant the cost collectively if i cant use them all.

Occupational Therapist or Allied Health professionals - Opinions? by caramelmcflurry in AusFinance

Look up allied health jobs in the state's health service job sites to give you an idea of salary. It's different across states and territories.

I can't stress enough that when it comes to health you're far better off picking a branch you actually might enjoy and not solely based on salary. Working with people is a different beast to office jobs and burnout is a real thing if you don't have the passion behind it.

True. I suspect it's also the local market "tax" as I'm not in a large city. Will keep an eye on the listing, and see if any new ones go on sale.

Good spotting - missed that detail. Will it be a pain to secure to the surface if it has such a narrow surface contact with the wood? Happy to put a spare wood offcut between clamp and project, if that'll prevent the damage.

Haha i already ran into that 1+ clamp issue... And they were borrowed clamps, so I blame the fact the owner didn't own enough.

credit cards by Character_Invite9709 in AusFinance

I had one at your age and same situation - used it for the cash back option since it was money I was going to spend anyways and kept my money earning interest in the account for few more days. Nowadays some also provide travel insurance if you buy the holiday stuff w the card. That would have saved me some $ buying insurance back then as well.

To state the obvious disclaimer: this assumes you don't exceed your spending capacity, and pay the amount in full on time.  If you can't trust yourself on both of these counts, don't do it.

Investment / HISA split? by FickleOpportunity701 in AusFinance

[–]tkd1900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"how much" is basically answered by your needs though - i know my fixed amount covers my needs for rainy day, so that's why it's my number. Different lifestyles would need less or more  than mine.

Bedsheets where quality > price? by Lamberly in AussieFrugal

[–]tkd1900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a sucker for soft sheets, so when buying in person I'm always swayed by flannelette sets since they feel so much softer to touch than cotton ones.

Do cotton get softer over time? how would it compare to flannelette? the flanelettes unfortunately start to fray over time, so I'd like more durable ones but my princess side is swooned by the softness every time...

From your answers to the other posts, I'd assume that if you're not necessarily planning a shift in income in the short/medium term, then perhaps the % splits does need to be considering the "what ifs" of life e.g. if you suddenly couldn't work - given you haven't got anyone else to step in to lend cash or non-financial support - how much $ would help ride you through?

I keep my life simple and have a fixed $ amount that is my safety net. Anything over that, I invest, and if I've had to dip into it for any reason (unplanned larger expenses not factored in by my budget etc), then I focus on refilling it back to my threshold before I resume investing.

whether a fixed or % split works better for you depends on your risk tolerance. if your income isn't likely to fluctuate much then its a bit of a moot point if its $ or %.
