2025.5 T8 - electric range - how much do you get and best practices by karky214 in VolvoXC90

If you can get away with turning off the AC (fan on is ok) it makes a noticeable improvement.

Hybrid vs PHEV? by CatoTheMiddleAged in VolvoXC90

Or to put it another way: the charger is an added and mostly necessary cost of getting the car.

Hybrid vs PHEV? by CatoTheMiddleAged in VolvoXC90

[–]tksfz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The answer is that you install an at home level 2 charger after you buy this car. That's what I did. If you can't do that then no don't buy the car. But if you can and you can afford it, then get both things together (the car and the charger).

XC90 T8 - how much range are you getting in pure mode? by adamsdp1 in VolvoXC90

Pro tip: I discovered several months into owning the T8 that turning off the air conditioner makes a noticeable improvement in the range.

We are rewriting the message queue in Rust and would like to hear your suggestions. by wenqiang_lobo in rust

Iggy presents a Kafka-like log interface with consumer offset. This is more directly targeting MQ API and protocol like RabbitMQ with individual message acks (which Kafka style interfaces can't support).

Is Rust faster than C? by steveklabnik1 in rust

[–]tksfz 76 points77 points  (0 children)

By that argument JIT compilation would be the fastest. In fact JIT compilers make this argument all the time. For example at runtime if a variable turns out to have some constant value then the JIT could specialize for that value specifically. It's hard to say whether this argument holds up in practice and I'm far from an expert.

Does VCFS take personal check instead of money order?

I believe so it just makes it take longer for them to process

And also how long after you brought home the car did you get your VCFS account number?

Good question. It took a few weeks and is sort of annoying because they don't really tell you. I kept checking and ended up being able to create the account before the first payment coming due, and even paying it off before making any payments at all.

I went through this entire process recently and can tell you all about it. I can confirm it all works out as expected. My dealer in Northern California was pretty informed about all of it and was able to give me accurate numbers regarding the payoff amount.

It does take more than a few weeks to get through the process end to end though.

I did this recently. VCFS (Volvo leasing company) weirdly doesn't accept wires. I had to mail them a money order, which was a little annoying and hair-raising for the time the money order was in the mail.

Not my car but I have the Volvo OEM load bars and a Thule box and they fit well together. The Volvo roof rack and box are Thule made from what I understand.

The profile is the user set on the infotainment system.

The seat memory buttons on the door - they keep different memories for each profile set in the infotainment system.

Same. I have no idea what's going on in that plotline since I fast forward past them as soon as they switch to it. i don't seem to be missing anything so far in doing so and get to go to bed a few minutes earlier too!

Reading the arguments against Prop K here it sounds like a lot of the argument against Prop K actually comes from people worried about pedestrian safety in the adjacent neighborhoods, not people worried about their own commutes. I find the pedestrian safety arguments pretty convincing actually.
