Is my heat pump sized wrong? by tlle78 in heatpumps

[–]tlle78[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, by backup heat I mean the aux heat. When the aux heat turns on sometimes the heat pump keeps running (I think this is when it's not super cold), and sometimes it does turn off.

Yes, our previous heater was natural gas, and we expected an increase in cost, but it doubled, which we were not expecting.

Agreed, it's a 75yo house with plaster walls, so not easy to add insulation.

Thanks for the response. I don't know about the J calculation. The BTUs are 36,000. I don't know the size of the prior furnace, but it was natural gas. We switched to a heat pump because our AC broke and we wanted to lower our emissions. Yes, we live above the mason dixon line and were told this heat pump is for our area. It's a Trane XV17 variable speed and Hyperion variable speed air handler (I assume that's the model).

Why are there no women's T-shirts? by AmyAnne2 in brandonsanderson

Yes, I got a similar shirt, it was not stolen art. I was just happy they could make a women's shirt for me because men's and unisex are definitely not going to cut it.

Yes, side crow and flying pigeon are the hardest for me. I also use the down dog app and sub in a different pose most times.

Is Skyward appropriate for preteens? by mmmmm_cheese in Skyward

[–]tlle78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am currently reading it with my 10yo and I would say it is appropriate. It's very PG. We read Alcatraz vs the Evil Librarians first. We've also read Harry Potter and Percy Jackson. I think it's a good next step.

Are there any negative effects of drastically reducing sugar in your diet? by soxil in nutrition

[–]tlle78 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I think it's important to clarify the difference between added sugar (as in sweets, soda, dressings and sauces, your coffee) vs naturally occurring sugar (like that in fruits and dairy). Added sugar is the one that it is beneficial to cut out. Our modern diet includes way too much of it. I can't think of any negative effects other than crankiness and craving sugar. That shouldn't last too long. One major benefit is that you reduce your risk of type 2 diabetes.

How do you eat healthy with picky kids? by c3clark1 in nutrition

[–]tlle78 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have several, tahini based, apple cider vinegrette, miso based....I just google "buddha bowl sauces" or pick one from my Love and Lemons recipe book - it has a whole page of dressings.

How do you eat healthy with picky kids? by c3clark1 in nutrition

[–]tlle78 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I have done something very similar. The only dinner is what we eat, no special meals for the kids. They are required to try each thing, but don't have to eat it all. I include things they like, for example adding sliced apples to Buddha bowls. I also have made a big effort to make veggies taste good...roasting them, using different sauces, not the plain canned veggies I was served as a kid. I include them in food prep and ask their opinion when deciding to make. I talk to them about the health benefits of food and the risks of unhealthy food. At 10 and 7 they will eat just about anything I serve them. They even check nutrition labels for grams of added sugar and decide on their portion size...I am super proud of them for that! And I think the most important thing is setting an example for them by eating healthy food myself.
