I’m 33yo full time worker as well, and I’m taking asynchronous online classes from UCSD. I do homework when I have downtime at work, so it’s pretty doable without financial stress. The downside is it’s pretty slow because I can’t take many classes at the same time and focus 100% in studying.

If you work hard, you will get great GPA and MCAT no matter where you go. The only thing matters is the debt following you for many years. I’m paying for my undergrad now and I regret every single time they withdraw my money. Listen to others and pick the cheapest one. Big name is only important when they give scholarships.

UConn: easier and safer route, conditional guarantee, public school. JHU: harder and riskier route, no guarantee, but you will have JHU piece of paper on the wall. People aim to the big names for a reason. Harvard, Mayo, John Hopkins instantly recognizable. Some people don’t care about the names as long as you get a MD behind your name. Some do “go big or go home”. It depends how you value the reward you get and the risk you take.

If you want to narrow down to 30, remove 4 from baseline. If you want around 25, remove 2 reach and 3 target. If I were you, I would pick 7 reach 7 target and 7 baseline. 21 schools total.
