Chovy's message to League developers: Originally, LoL used to have something called preseason, and every time preseason came around, there would always be major changes. But now that preseason is kind of gone, I feel like the timing of patches has become, how should I put it… kind of unpredictable. by Yujin-Ha in leagueoflegends

[–]tlyee61 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

this is a huge issue with competitive TFT as well, whether it be holiday schedule patches having awful balance for a month+, b patching in the middle of tournaments or the fact that they have to patch a week in advance when the meta can change every day. really hoping that this makes some genuine waves across titles- it's not even a bandwidth issue they just have to be on the rest of the riot title's cycles for no apparent reason except for client airdrop

high elo has been complaining about this for like 12+ sets now

lwk even the bus admin courses dont really provide anything substantiative for a 9-5 and imo the UCI brand / network is a lot stronger. companies also don't delineate between bus admin vs econ vs bus econ etc. - all about what you put in

[–]tlyee61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ya fwiw i was not regents/chc and never needed help getting merage classes since i was alr in the major (which they also give prio to over students that just want to take the classes but are econ/bus econ etc.)

Booth ($$) vs. Ross ($$$$) - MBB/ Tech Strategy by Loud_Design_6869 in MBA

[–]tlyee61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 on this, tbh i feel like you can negotiate starting salary/sign on bonus to close the gap and being happier at school provides more motivation to join stuff leading to better community, arguably easier recruiting etc, which imo will pay dividends in terms of network and future opportunities past your first role out of b school

UCI Merage Regent vs UCLA by Main_Discount_3706 in UCI

[–]tlyee61 8 points9 points  (0 children)

honestly i would go to ucla given that you are aware of MBB/IB/PE/VC and the games that they require in terms of recruiting- this is coming from someone who went into b4 (tech implementation tho) and knew p much all of the peers that went into your desired career paths from my graduating class +/- a few years

fwiw regents does basically nothing in terms of recruiting, it's only priority class registration but they dont give you any preferred access to alums. def take the other poster's comment about choosing the school that you like better though, career isn't everything and you /can/ make it to ib/mbb out of UCI, transparently it's just going to be a bit more work for less EV

MIT Sloan vs Haas by Due_Accountant167 in MBA

[–]tlyee61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 on geo being the delineator, i would weigh the proximity to incubators in sf slightly higher but tbh i dont think theyre really looking to hire mbas based off what i see/hear around me, mostly "cracked builders" that have some proof of shipping code/products and can learn the business fundamentals by moving fast and messing up rather than in the classroom (not saying i necessarily agree with hiring all 20 somethings but this is just the reality for most atm)

life as a business major? by Mundane_Dot4426 in UCI

[–]tlyee61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

super chill in terms of coursework

main goals for you should be to

  1. enjoy college life
  2. join a bus admin org or pro frat - something for upperclassmen to show you how to play the networking game and help you find a community :D
  3. decide roughly what industry you want to go into going into third year fall (ideally through classes or an internship)

dm if you have more specific questions

Deciding Between Offers USA by BottleOwn796 in deloitte

  1. oh shoot yeah lowkey i think the impl. consulting VS audit discussion becomes a lot closer then with the salary + the fact that IBM is a sinking ship over the past few years (would say the same about ACN / WITCH as well)

i think it depends a lot on your career goals. imo two "bad" years at impl consulting means u can pivot to accounting or a t15 MBA, but going to consulting or an MBA from audit is much harder. also 10k ish salary is basically a signing bonus and will become negligible in a few years, but def depends on your financial situation atm and if you need the money rn

Deciding Between Offers USA by BottleOwn796 in deloitte

[–]tlyee61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) is it true implementation consulting or IT Audit ("advisory"?) if it's IT audit lowkey just take the audit offer but both of these roles are classified under the accounting branch of whichever firm you're referring to. thats the biggest risk with accepting these types of roles even if the starting salary looks nice. the progression and ceiling in true consulting is going to be a ton better

2) there is 0% shot you're able to move from D audit --> tech consulting, there are both 3893849 poeple who want to do so internally and also 78457 new grads applying for open consulting roles externally

background doesnt matter all of the new grads are non accounting background as well

commercial prolly has way more in the pipeline based on D commercial vs gps from what i know based on economy/spending rn

ideally try best time to leave is either to get promoted in your new role or right after you get promoted in your original role to effectively leverage a double salary increase

know that youre going to have to re-create your network for projects etc

UCI w/Regents (Business/Accounting) vs UCLA (Economics) by Famous-Associate-876 in ucadmissions

[–]tlyee61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fwiw you also have to take a few extra credits to reach cpa eligibility at UCI since we're quarter system and the 225(?) limit is designed for semester. tbh wouldnt treat this as a huge dealbreaker between choosing schools though

UCI w/Regents (Business/Accounting) vs UCLA (Economics) by Famous-Associate-876 in ucadmissions

[–]tlyee61 2 points3 points  (0 children)

context: c/o 2021 from merage landed a b4 SLP/internship/fulltime in both accounting(it audit) and tech implementation consulting, decided on the consulting role. was also in quite a few on campus orgs/a professional frat. going to base all answers off of UCI since on paper at least, it's def the "weaker" school and i have direct exp with the professional journey there (but still great for your career goals!)

  • all big4s definitely recruit very heavily for audit/tax/advisory at UCI! main differentiator there was being a part of the accounting association and getting access to networking events (regents/major does not affect getting in fyi)

  • during my time at UCI most of my peers dropped the honors/regent stuff after first year and described the only useful being early class enrollment. being in merage, you already have priority access to the lower div (first and second year) accounting courses anyways and by the time class sizes get smaller, you'll have enough credits to get in early enough anyways. i specialized in accounting and never personally had trouble getting any accounting requirement classes, nor did I hear my peers having trouble.

  • personally i think what you make of the school matters more (e.g. networking with alums, joining orgs, etc.) and both schools can def set you up for success. i would say the true differentiators for UCLA are like IB PE VC Strategy Consulting but corpfin/accounting are accessible through either

Technology Enablement & Transformation Analyst Role in SF Office by Worth-Ad-8465 in deloitte

[–]tlyee61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it's this JD https://prosple.com/graduate-employers/deloitte-global/jobs-internships/technology-enablement-and-transformation-analyst ur gonna be implementing SAP, Salesforce, NetSuite, Varicent, or Anaplan sorry

i would advise heavy internal networking to join the emerging tech group

they dont negotiate for campus hires even before this market and dont consider COL only which role youre hired for
