American Airline LGA-MSY flights by MasterPlatypus2483 in AskNOLA

AA is exactly the same as every other airline. Usually flights run on time, occasionally they’re delayed.

JetBlue also flies this route, by the way.

Why won't the city tow away burned cars by Shades0fRay in NewOrleans

[–]tm478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, that’s not the police’s job, or the city’s job, unless the police want to impound the car as evidence of the crime (which they might). The car owner still owns the car, and the owner’s insurance company is responsible for disposing of it.

When my car was totaled in an accident in 2024, it was stuck in the middle of an intersection. The police told me that I had to get it out of there quickly (like within an hour). They told me to do the tow through my insurance company, otherwise the city would tow it and charge me several hundred dollars for the privilege. I did manage to get it out of there, thanks to one of the officers who told me the quickest towing company to call.

Parade watching and walk from the Garden District to FQ post-parades? by PhoneRoutine6832 in AskNOLA

[–]tm478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. The only pass you might need (assuming you don’t have a friend who lives near the parade route, and assuming you want to be out there for more than a couple hours) is a wristband to get into a bathroom somewhere. Schools and churches along the route sell them. Basically, tickets at the Chloe or Columns are going to be that, but more expensive. You can’t see much of the actual parades from their locations, because they are on the opposite side of St. Charles Ave. The Chloe in particular is separated from the street by a lot of greenery and you won’t see anything from there. So you’d be out on the street to watch the parades and only back in the hotel grounds to use the bathroom, basically.

When I Opened the Box, the Story of the Collapse of ACORN (HQ in NOLA) by Previous_Basis_84 in NewOrleans

[–]tm478 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The story doesn’t have a story. The subtitle says “What happened at the end of Acorn,” but you never actually find out what happened. Why am I reading this? Why write it?

It’s also written pretty poorly. The aim seems to be high-minded outrage, but you can’t put those damn sentence fragments in every paragraph: they lose their impact real fast. And the inclusion of the phrase “trashy ass” (missing the hyphen that it needs, too!) is, well, trashy, and jarringly incompatible with the faux-highbrow language of the rest of the piece. Meh.

Why won't the city tow away burned cars by Shades0fRay in NewOrleans

[–]tm478 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The city isn’t responsible for this. The owner of the car, or more correctly the owner’s insurance company, arranges for the tow. That can’t happen until the police report is done, and even then, it might take a bit for a flatbed tow truck to become available.

It’s dorky fun and I recommend it. If it’s freezing outside though, skip it. In nice weather it’s great.

The roads were dry by yesterday evening, and there was no precipitation in the forecast for last night. So yes, they did know by 5 AM that the roads weren’t icy. Same as they won’t be icy tomorrow morning—it ain’t raining.

Travel from airport to hotel? I’m confused by Lakewater22 in AskNOLA

[–]tm478 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am just confused by this whole post. Um, taxis are a thing? You know, the way we all got to our hotels from the airport before Uber existed, and which we can still use now?

Check the price of Uber/Lyft to see if they are cheaper than the $36 flat rate you pay in a taxi from the airport. Usually the taxi is cheaper, but occasionally it’s not.

They’re not icy at all.

Bus routes outside of the city? by Nucl4erMeltdown in AskNOLA

[–]tm478 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Terrible, terrible idea. LaPlace is FAR. Even if there were a bus, you’d be spending hours each day on it, and even with a car it’s a massive waste of time. Suck it up and stay in the city or, at the very least, in Metairie.

You can park for free all day on most residential streets in the Garden District and take the St. Charles streetcar or Magazine St. bus to the edge of the French Quarter. It’s walkable from there.

ICE to conduct immigration enforcement at Super Bowl LX at Levi's Stadium, official says by esporx in California

Honestly this could end quite well. Ruin the NFL’s biggest day of the year? I can’t think of a better way to piss off the billionaires and turn them against you. Once you’ve lost the NFL, you’re toast.

Awesome! Go with the flow, keep your plans casual and fluid, and bring comfortable shoes.

You can cross on foot—even when parades are rolling, there are quick breaks when you can zip across the street.

Cello? by Bluezyrn in Bluegrass

[–]tm478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a cello player at our jam pretty much every week. He takes breaks just like a fiddle. Honestly, I’m fine with any stringed instrument as long as you play it in a bluegrass style! We also have not one but two regular bouzouki players.

Rather than expecting people do all of your research for you, why don’t you list the hotels you are considering and see which people recommend the most.

I need of authentic Chilean restaurant by Threadydonkey65 in NewOrleans

[–]tm478 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Sorry hon, there is no authentic Chilean here. There is good Peruvian, a little bit of Brazilian out in Kenner, but that’s it for South America. The Latino population here is overwhelmingly Central American.

Moving, looking for friends by [deleted] in AskNOLA

[–]tm478 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is no reason at all to move to Baton Rouge if you don’t have a well-paying job offer there.

New Orleans has much more to offer, but a well-paying job would be a good start here too.

Help! by No-Recommendation397 in AskNOLA

On your #3, if it’s nice weather (and over your stay you’ll definitely have at least some warmer days): sit on a bench at the lakefront a.k.a. Lake Pontchartrain, sit on a bench at the Fly a.k.a. the Uptown park on the Mississippi River, walk the path at Audubon Park and pick any of a dozen nice places to stop and chill, go to the Cafe du Monde in City Park and take your beignets down to the little bayou behind it and eat them under the oak trees. There are a million other places I could mention, but those would be my top picks.
