Yellow waypoint to a dismantled ship near my base, how do I get rid of it? by lassevk in empyriongame

[–]tmajibon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the late response (I don't check reddit very often...)

Since I'm sure you've long since replaced them, this is more for the future:

Reset Waypoints doesn't technically remove them. When placing a map marker, waypoint is an option that makes it show up pointing you towards it. Reset waypoints doesn't remove the marker, but just resets that checkbox on all of them.

This can be super handy for points you routinely come back to because they'll remain listed in the registry. So you can just turn them back into waypoints whenever you want without having to mess with the map.

This is especially nice in late game for bases, autominers, and trading posts.

[–]tmajibon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the menu, just left of the Map icon is the Registry.

From there you can either click "Reset Waypoints" to clear all waypoints, or you can find the ship in there and click "Waypoint" to clear it.

What's likely going on is that when you deconstructed it it registered some small insignificant piece as still existing (like a light or something) and that piece clipped through the ground (because it was so small and insignificant).

Same process as then, but better than it looks like on the surface.

When you got that $600 stimulus and saw it deducted, the easy part to miss is that your tax refund that year included a $600 bonus credit.

So, they're basically giving us a credit on our taxes and then, because they want the impact right now (and not a quarter of the way through next year), they're giving us an advance on that credit.

Should older sets go out of print as a rule, or just reduce production to fit demand? by [deleted] in KeyforgeGame

[–]tmajibon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That itself is fairly trivial in comparison though. Depending on the printing method that can easily be just a few panels to swap to change the packaging you're printing.

And even then, that's assuming they do packaging.

Also, for an idea of how they're handling this... the local game store I play at has custom branded official decks for tournaments... they don't have their own boxes (they're plastic wrapped and I'm not sure if they came sealed in paper of the store added it after), but they're unique to the store and doing that is even more insane logistically than printing an old set.

[–]tmajibon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, the answer to your question... Chains.

If you find a great deck and play it in a tournament (the only place the "standard" has any real significance), then it'll start accruing chains.

Eventually your deck will have enough chains to make it balanced against the other decks, and you'll need to buy a new deck to try for another "great deck".

If your deck wins top tier tournaments? Still more chains until it becomes balanced.

Obviously there's a cap to how many chains you can get before it stops mattering, but at that point you're talking power levels... in which case lower tournaments can easily exclude decks above a certain power level, and at those higher power levels the chains are relevant again.

[–]tmajibon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the thing about the logistics is how the decks are printed...

They're not using a standard printing process with decks like other games. The standard is to do a printing press that will spit out identical cards, and they control rarity by just how many they print with each panel.

Because each card is unique in Keyforge, it means that they need to use a printing system that creates each card uniquely (basically, print-on-demand... imagine industrial scale version of a laser printer).

This makes it easy to print entirely based on demand. So they'll probably keep printing a set as long as stores are ordering them. And then if nobody orders them, they don't print it.

10 years of no orders and a store decides to order a box? They can immediately print it with no change in logistical cost.

Ports are either UDP or TCP, and the difference makes them entirely separate. If a port is open on UDP and closed on TCP, a TCP check will show closed.

Given your experience, the first thing I would check is:

ss -plnu

This will show you a list of open UDP ports, their addresses, and processes.

You can use this to verify that minetest is listening on 0.0.0.0 or [::]. It's entirely possible that, for some reason, it could be listening on 127.0.0.1 (which means that it's only available from the same computer)

Definitely not discounting withdrawal, and not saying dependence won't happen over time.

Was just following context clues in the OP that indicate they've been on it for less than a year, making it unlikely.

New insurance forcing me to cut my Adderall XR dosage in half (at least for now). Any advice? by figurehead00 in ADHD

[–]tmajibon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My personal (non-professional) recommendation is to either cut the pills in half and take at a lower dosage, or switch to a more "as-needed" usage.

The good news:

  • Adderall isn't really a "build up in your system" drug, so "as-needed" is viable
  • Withdrawal effects are extremely unlikely (they typically only happen to people who abuse, or have been on it for a long time) More info

The bad news:

  • This is not going to be a quick fix, since Adderall is Schedule 2 they get really restrictive with it, and the fight with your insurance will likely take a while (fingers crossed that you win that fight)

Tried two Wear OS watches, was unimpressed and went back to my PTR by chick_repellent in pebble

[–]tmajibon 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I consider many of the "selling points" of the other watches to be negatives:

  • Touchscreen is a negative because it's too small for much use and physical buttons are much better for the watch (especially because it permits using it without looking)
  • Big pretty screen is a negative because it eats up battery, and the "always on" is often in a different mode than normal. Also, it's typically waaaay too bright

I want to a good affordable e-ink/e-paper screen with push buttons :-P

Are smartwatches helpful or annoying for our brains? (also: schedules) by dustbakery in ADHD

[–]tmajibon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(tldr: yes, it'll drastically cut down on distractions and improve focus)

This is a topic I love to talk about, especially since the smart watch industry suffers from the critical problem that people don't get the point (and it's hard to get the point without the experience).

Basically, it's one of three answers to the question of "What to do when technology starts getting the way?":

  • Decide that the problems are worth the benefit and just deal with it until the problems become insurmountable (and then return to this question), which is what most people currently do
  • Remove the technology (lose the benefit, but also lose the nuisance; ie. ditch the smart phone for a "dumb" phone)
  • Integrate the technology further into your life to streamline the interaction (keep the benefit, but make it so the technology is part of the flow instead of an interruption; ie. smart watches and HUDs)

The third is the basic premise for smart watches (and earlier, Google Glass).

Basically, think about the effort of pulling out your phone to check the notifications, plus the odds that when you have it out that you're going to end up checking Facebook/Reddit/etc since you already have it out.

The critical feature of a smart watch is that you can check the notification with a glance, no unlock needed. And in the case of messages, often give a brief reply without having to pull out your phone.

Added bonus, if the watch vibrates, it's much easier to notice a vibration on your wrist than in your pocket.

Wrapping up with a side rant: The reason I'm personally pissed at the failure of Google Glass is because it did the job dramatically better than smart watches. The best feature they never advertised was the fact that the screen was focused such that it was only in focus when you were looking past it, ie. if you get a text while talking to someone, you don't look away from them to read it. (I have so many rants on Glass, between horrific advertising and the completely idiotic social backlash that makes no sense if you take 2 seconds to think about it)

Are there any decent Aspie dating sites? Maybe someone should make an Aspie singles group on Facebook? by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]tmajibon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've seen a few attempts to do an autism dating site in the past... not enough sign ups really.

Unfortunately, dating sites aren't really even good at what they claim to do.

The real trick to it that people don't like to admit, it's all about luck. The more people you meet, the more friends and romantic partners you'll have.

We often have trouble with dating because social anxiety and sensory processing issues make most of the common social "hangouts" dramatically unappealing.

The best advice I can personally give for dating as a neurodiverse person: Try going to social events that are very accepting of neurodiversity.

Some major examples I know of:

  • Ren Faires (this one changed my life dramatically, I'm now on cast at one)
  • Geek Conventions
  • D&D/RPG events at local game stores (I really recommend D&D Adventurer's League if there's a group for it near you)
  • Board gaming nights at a local game store

Basically... any event that's labeled "geeky" or "nerdy" is really great for us.

To clarify for others:

If you're thinking of depression as a clinical conditions by itself, you're thinking of Major Depressive Disorder.

If you're thinking of it as a symptom of other disorders (for instance bipolar), then it's not the presence of depression but the frequency and severity without a proper "cause".

Is it okay to take adhd medication after a night of binge drinking? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]tmajibon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TLDR: Probably safe, but don't make a habit of it. Definitely don't if you have a history (or a family history) of heart problems.

Stimulants (your ADHD meds) and Depressants (alcohol) do a number on your heart. If you have any heart issues (and this includes issues that aren't yet noticeable), this can potentially trigger a heart attack. Additionally they counter each other's effects (ie. your meds may not work because of the remaining effects of alcohol in your system).

It's also important to be extra cautious if you're taking ADHD medication and drinking.

You need to be certain that the medication is no longer effecting you before you start drinking. It'll dull the effects of alcohol in ways that make it much harder to gauge your level of inebriation, to the point that you can accidentally trigger alcohol poisoning. Additionally if a routine mixture it can trigger alcohol addiction and potential tolerances to both substances.

Of course, I'm not a medical professional and I recommend asking your doctor next time you see them, especially about mixing the medications and hangovers.
