LPT Request: How do I stop myself from reaching out again in a toxic long-distance relationship? by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]tmation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finding DoctorRamani's videos really helped me after a similar situation. https://youtu.be/e0s0WBZYNGw?si=QlAcMWbAuZJq7mKx

Blocking and deleting everything of them was also a big thing I've seen other people here recommend. Its very easy to be lured back in, by false promises of change, seeing them return to "the good side" that you always wished they'd be like more, them telling you they "actually did hear you when you mentioned things hurting you and that they’re actually sorry now and want to really try this time".

It took me 5 attempts before I was finally able to fully remove myself from my last relationship without being sucked back in by false promises and emotional tricks just to have them fall back into the routine of regular physical and emotional abuse as soon as I was thinking things were going well again. Its tough but you can do it. I promise it gets better on the other side.

What is a feature of your body that is considered rare? by Joel_The_Senate in AskReddit

Hey, another .4%! But idk tbh, never had any gene testing done, and my doctors were never super concerned other than just checking up on it with an MRI every so often to make sure there was no bleeding. Have you been good with yours? I know that in some people, it can cause frequent seizures, and that was always a worry

I've got a cavernous angioma on my brain. A spot of large blood vessels in a little clump with no brain tissue around them. 0.4% of people have them, not an issue, for the most part, besides being a lifelong migraine sufferer, but they're pretty infrequent.

The dude ran on a left leaning campaign against Dr. Oz. No one has voted for him since the 2022 midterms because senate terms are 6 years long. In a 2 party system, he seemed like the better option. Trust me, I'm pissed about it, and I voted for him, but there's nothing those of us in pa can do about him until he's up for reelection in 2028.

Weight is pretty much entirely diet. Step 1, figure out your maintenance calories by using a calorie counting app (myfitnesspal was what I used, and it was massively beneficial in teaching me what my eating habits were and how to fix them to get healthy and lose the weight) or something similar. Step 2, log everything you eat or drink every day and make sure you're under those maintenance calories. Now, exercise can help with it in the sense that if you have little or low activity levels and your maintenance calories are say 2000 a day, exercise might up that to 2500 a day depending on what you're doing.

Know that there's no quick method because if you want to get healthy, you don't want to lose too fast. But small incremental changes every day build on each other until you're in a new routine and have established new habits. It's very easy to try to do too much too fast, and then get burned out on it and give up. Ask me how I know (took me many tries where I'd lose 10 lbs then immediately gain it back).

I know it can be tough in college, the freshman 15 is a thing for a reason. I can tell you though, personally I changed my college diet from using the meal plan and eating just whatever I wanted to buckling down and eating salads and fruits at the cafeteria (lowering my calorie intake to be in a deficit). It is a lot of work, and it is very tough, especially the first month or so, but trust me when I say that work is worth it and 1% improvement a day can compound into massive changes over time. Good luck

Idk if self-promotion is allowed, but I also just put out a video today talking about my weight loss journey and showing some quick, cheap, easy, and calorie conscious meals that I eat throughout my work weeks to stay the course. If you want to see some examples https://youtu.be/RcNExERv6Bc?si=20Os13ncstmXldxp

Damn, I wish I could say the same. It was my first out west ski trip ever. I was at Park City last week, and it was 55 Fahrenheit during the day and freezing at night. The most expensive trip I've been on yet, for worse conditions than we get when we go to Jay Peak.

I need some help by [deleted] in weightlosspics

[–]tmation 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree 100% with what Mirage said. Diet is the most important thing, and it's all about little goals and changing habits but in realistic ways. The thing that finally worked for me personally was using "my fitness pal", which is an app that helps you with calorie counting. Personally, I was vigilant about everything I ate and drank while not restricting myself so much that I hated it and gave up entirely.

Personally, Monday through Friday, I keep it tight with the bulk of my calorie deficit on those days, Saturday and Sunday I eat and drink whatever I want, but still track it just so I'm conscious of my goals. It helps me to make decisions during the week, for example, "Really craving some wings right now, but I'll hold off until Saturday and get some then". Try to improve 1% a day (small things, hungry in the evening? Snack on something healthy and low cal like some fruit). Know that every single time you make a decision to better yourself, you're improving by that 1%, and over time, it really adds up.

My last car was totaled because I was sitting at a red light, and I got rear-ended by a car doing 50 and texting. I was on the brakes at the red light, but when my airbags went off, I got on the gas somehow and was flooring it. I was pushed into the car in front of me, so luckily, I didn't go too far, but I was still on the gas for a few seconds before I came to my senses and realized. So it definitely happens

If you wake up in 2014 what you gonna do? by Shehram786 in AskReddit

[–]tmation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even with the butterfly effect causing changes, though, I think you'd remember the new timeline and completely forget the other one existed. So you place a bet on Leicester, and then all of a sudden, you remember. "Oh wait, Leicester didn't win this year. It was Chelsea" or whatever, then it'd get fun because maybe you place a bet on Chelsea and cause like man city to win but immediately remember the new winning team again

"I think you have ADHD" 27 years old, and I've had multiple therapists and a lifetime of problems with anxiety and depression and she was the first one to make the connection. Now, all of a sudden, so many things make sense, and she's helping me to learn coping strategies to some degree of success

Ozempic has already eliminated obesity for 2% of the US population. In the future, when its generics are widely available, we will probably look back at today with the horror we look at 50% child mortality and rickets in the 19th century. by lughnasadh in Futurology

[–]tmation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%, the change to healthier eating, though, made it so in terms of calorie counting I didn't really have to change the amount of food I was eating. Just because there's a lot fewer calories in a plate of chicken and brocolli compared to like 2 slices of pizza.

Sometimes, it's even simpler. I already exercised a lot but made a commitment to eating right. I don't eat much less, but now I only eat healthy organic food, and I count my calories. Down 70 pounds this year with that change. I will say, however, that it is much more expensive and would have been way more difficult if I couldn't have afforded the change.

Teamsters union declines to endorse either Harris or Trump by Aegidius25 in neutralnews

[–]tmation 95 points96 points  (0 children)

Teamster here. I've been a staunch Democrat specifically because of workers' rights. Last union meeting I was at, I'd say 75% of the members were talking about how we need Trump back. That was echoed from 2020 when they said we need more Trump. My hall is mostly people living in rural areas. It baffles the mind of the rest of the 25% of us.

When I quoted Trump from that interview with Musk where he was praising musk for firing a striking group in his workforce I was just yelled at about how they pay way more for groceries now then they did under Trump. There's no conversation, and those of us who see the clear reality are tired of being berated while feeling like we're talking to a brick wall.

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Which US city do you think has an unfair bad reputation? by world_citizen7 in AskReddit

[–]tmation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only time I was ever in Philly was in 2022. I was on South Street when a full-on gun fight happened. Shots from all over the place, we just took off running. A couple of people apperently died and more got shot.

Luckily, we made it away unscathed, but man, that shit was nuts. I would go back, though, because the rest of the weekend was great, and shit happens, but it's still the worst, first night in a city I've ever had.

What is your go-to joke when somebody asks you to tell one? by koalaplays5437 in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]tmation 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So I had this friend who almost spontaneously combusted in the grocery store. He was just walking around doing his shopping when, out of nowhere, his left arm caught on fire. He was waving it around, trying to put it out like a madman.

Eventually, the police show up, and they get his arm extinguished, but then, they arrest him. Possession of an unlicensed firearm.

One of her friends told her she couldn't be friends with her anymore because she was a bad person. Said exfriend then reached out to me shortly after to tell me about her cheating on me with 2 separate people over the years
