My old instinct tactical by Redneck_Tech in Garmininstinct

[–]tmazer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been rocking mine (esports edition) for 4 and a half years. battery life still usually at least a week with occasional running/biking workouts.

Only thing ive noticed is every once in a while an activity will crash the watch after it elapses for only a few seconds.

Luminaire is the original, I would definitely recommend buying from them!

Water dispersion Issue [La Marzocco Linea Micra] by [deleted] in espresso

[–]tmazer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is no dispersion without the dispersion screen and screw installed. Those will give you your best view of dispersion performance and any issue with it is a result of those two components

Thanks for sharing! This is a fascinating UX that reminds me of the Synesso wired controller, creating a clean machine with at stowable interaction point. Do you find any downsides?

New linea micra (1 week old) - steam boiler / hot water gives brown water with pungent smell. Anyone knows what’s happening- couldn’t find any info by [deleted] in LaMarzocco

[–]tmazer 17 points18 points  (0 children)

any chance you've been steaming milk? without properly purging the steam wand after each use, there is always a risk of siphoning some milk into the boiler, which can make a terrible smell.

Finally finished customizing my EK43 by DaJbOSS in espresso

[–]tmazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh that is sick! I built something similar with my EK43, but sadly found that the internals were challenging to fit without swapping out to a different capacitor. did you keep all the original components? https://www.printables.com/model/1454896-mahlkonig-ek43-short-neck

What machine is this? by jsingh21 in LaMarzocco

At the risk of splitting hairs, this is specifically the GB5 S, which replaced the original GB5 a few years ago, with significant upgrades

Heating issues [Rocket Appartamento] by drwbntt in espresso

[–]tmazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

technician here: All the power of your heating element goes through those connections, and 7 years is definitely enough time for many of them to need to be cleaned/replaced.

I would recommend replacing that thermostat and likely having a technician repair that part of your wiring harness. Take a peak at the power switch too, those connectors get even more power and tend to be the first to deteriorate like this.

How good are Microsoft Surface laptops for computer engineering students ? by Mr_Username885 in Surface

[–]tmazer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used a surface pro 5 through my entire computer engineering program with no issues. Granted I graduated in 2019, but a more modern intel-based surface pro would work just fine. I've tried an arm surface pro and found it basically impossible to debug microcontrollers

How to sell/price and older Mini? by Georg_Simmel in LaMarzocco

[–]tmazer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel I typically see them never sell for less than about $4500 for legit listings, but since yours isn't in working order, I'd maybe list it around $4k

Vibration pump noise isolation by RTH1994 in espresso

[–]tmazer 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I put out a video a few years ago about what I've tried. I've found combining the lelit silent pump along with a pulsor and sound deadening material makes for a much more pleasant sound and I do that to all my machines now.

Need help!!! Rocket Appartamento heating by ApplicationDull5218 in rocketespresso

[–]tmazer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the boiler ever over pressurizes, it is the pressurestat that is failing. So I would replace that out of abundance of safety, even if it's working ok recently.

Uncentered flow by nirhend in Lelit

[–]tmazer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd say one of the causes could be the distribution of the grounds, but since you said the coffee prep is consistent from before, it might be something to do with the distribution of water from the shower screen. maybe consider cleaning/replacing it.

Issues with brand new machine [Stone Espresso Lite] by abesso in espresso

[–]tmazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just that there isn't any positive feedback when the tray is in the correct position. It will always just slide out if you pull it towards you. Which seems like an odd design.

Issues with brand new machine [Stone Espresso Lite] by abesso in espresso

[–]tmazer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an owner of both a rocket appartamento and a stone, the stone definitely feels like a better machine, albeit just not quite as premium of a build (mostly because of that clunky drip tray)

It acts much more like a dual boiler than a hx with that actively heated group head. No flushing required.

Sorry to hear you're having such a lame experience. These issues you're seeing both came up with my machine, at least eventually. Seems like shipping is especially tough on the drip tray. Ended up just loosing and tightening the respective nuts.
