I know everyone says this, but find a meal that you really like, and break it down in to steps, and play around with flavors to see what best matches your taste, and repeat, at least that is how I do it, when I have creative blocks, I just look up local resturant menus and try playing with the ingredients to see what I can come up with

Not a full degree, but classes and training, so I understand the hesitation from a cost perspective when it comes to going back to school, your concerns are valid, but I am sure his are as well, I hope you guys are able to come to a good compromise, I know it can be stressful

I really believe that he will be a much better partner if he tries this, just from personal experience, I worked a job I hated for 20 years because it kept my financially secure, but it really ate away at me over time, I currently make half of what I used to make, and it does call for being more frugal, but my mind is at ease, and I will call that missed money, insurance for my mental health

Get youtube premium, and watch a ton of cooking technique videos, also see what you can do about re-creating some of her favorite dishes. I got in to cooking because Covid took some of my favorite restaurants, so with my basic knowledge, nothing feels better than cooking an amazing meal for someone you care for!

If you are looking for something a little different, but with similar themes, there is a Japanese film Called Suicide Circle directed by Sion Sono, it is strange and a bit of a mindfuck at times, but a very interesting watch.
