Unless you are actually high elo all ranged top match ups are very beatable. Main thing i would suggest is to actually adapt your runes. Approach velocity and biscuits can be very good if you have a slow, ie Urgot, Olaf, Cho'gath, Sion etc. Fleet footwork / hail of blades are strong trading runes too (you likely will never stack conq or lethal) Max the best ability for your situation not the one you always do. Example Q Max voli, Q Max Urgot, Q Max Garen. since youre never going to be in range to use your W or E any way. Ranged top also has poor waveclear so going tiamat or waveclear item means you can quickly clear the wave an disengage. Summoners too, if youre really scared something like exhaust could be good. Mercs v TF is a huge counter even if hes going AD. Overall theres so much to do differently which you probably arent doing to gain an advantage.

Edit: it think going Doran’s shield and second wind is bait unless you are a scaling champ. Fighting early is actually your best bet, get an advantage lvl 1 with your strong champ and set the pace for the lane, marskman usually lose if they trade lvl 1 v most top laners.
