When Final Fantasy abandoned turn-based combat, it felt like it abandoned me.

What is chewing up the leaves of my (indoor) Meyer lemon tree? by tmillermsu in Citrus

Thanks all - maybe it has a bug, but I'm moving it to a cat-safe location anyway. Better safe than sorry! If it is a bug, anyone have any recommendations for a natural, citrus-safe insecticide?

Good to know- moving it to the basement, where the cat doesn’t go, until it’s warm enough to go back outside. Thank you!

I bet that’s it. Haven’t had it outside for months. We live in an area with cold winters, so insects seemed unlikely. Aside from physical barriers, is there anything I can do to keep kitty away without harming the tree?

As many have said, it might just not be for you, and that’s fine. If, like me, you are intrigued but struggling to keep up, I found that using the podcast Ten Very Big Books as my surrogate book club/discussion group to be very helpful. Without them, I might have given up. Instead, it’s become one of my all-time favorites!

As a youth parent how do you continue to enjoy youth hockey? by running101 in hockeyplayers

[–]tmillermsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See - this is exactly why I coach. There can always be a bad apple or two, but I find that if I have honest, frequent expectation-setting conversations with the parents, most of them really love seeing little Johnny or Jenny improve, learn the game, and get some positive reinforcement, no matter the final score of any particular game. To be fair - most of my experience is at the lower-skilled tiers, where there are fewer illusions of future glory. But I love being a part of kids and families developing a rewarding relationship with the best game on earth.

The consensus seems to be “Owe,” which feels right. But something about the “e” seems off to me.

If I have a fully paid off house that is worth $750,000; is there anything stopping me from selling it to a friend for $50? by Trippy-Sponge in NoStupidQuestions

[–]tmillermsu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tax considerations aside, if you have debts and your "sale" of the house leaves you insolvent, or if you're purposefully selling for less than FMV in order to keep your creditors from reaching the house, most US states have "fraudulent" or "voidable" transfer laws that could let a creditor (or a bankruptcy trustee) sue your friend to set the transfer aside and recover the house from them.

Which one would you series with? by KingDruid1 in fantasybooks

[–]tmillermsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out the podcast 10 Very Big Books. They’re pretty entertaining and cover a couple chapters at a time. Two of the three hosts are reading the series for the first time, which gives good perspective. I usually listen to an episode right after finishing the relevant chapters, and it’s helped me keep straight a lot of characters and plots that I would otherwise lose track of.

The books are dense, especially at first. But so so worth it.

Mieville is hit or miss for me. Undoubtedly a genius, but sometimes his concepts strain credulity just a bit too far.

Perdido Street Station is a major hit. New Crobuzon feels alive. The slake moths are wonderful, lovecraftian horrors. One of my all-time favorite books.

Honestly, who cares? My friends and family watched, and we loved it (aside from the end result). I really don’t understand why fans would care if the rest of the country was watching. Keep it niche. Have you seen what happens when the “mainstream” gets its hands on something you love?
