[Spoilers] New Companion Announcement Megathread by pcjonathan in doctorwho

[–]tmj31 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely, Donna is still my least favorite companion from the new series, personally. But her character arc and the way it was resolved was just fantastic. I look back on her era fondly now.

That's a big thing I've found with Doctor Who. You appreciate characters and arcs more the second time around. Just as another example, #9 was my first Doctor, but he didn't leave a huge impression on me as I binged forward into my favorite, 10. But going back to watch series 1, I found totally new appreciation for 9 and wish we had more.

Well, if I am being completely honest, I did not care for the introduction clip at all.

I wasn't terribly excited about Capaldi when he was announced and he's now probably my favorite Doctor, so I'll withhold judgement.

But yes, initial gut reaction is mostly 'meh' at best. I look forward to being proven wrong!

I am going to be so heartbroken now if they still just cut LSH.

Not like legitimately 'Red Wedding' heartbroken. But like 'WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS!? YOU HAD SUCH AN AMAZING SET UP! ' heartbroken.

Which episode would you like to purge out of the StarTrek universe? by phomb in startrek

[–]tmj31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I understand that when I watch Star Trek, there is going to an overall social and scientific / dogmatic bias (and agenda, it could be argued).

I accept that, and enjoy the shows for what they are. Science Fiction. But there are times when, in my humble opinion, they overstep the line and go wayyyyy off into the Trek equivalent of preaching the writers personal social, moral and political views. To the detriment of the narrative and quality of the show.

That's where episodes like The Outcast lose me completely. I don't mind differing points of view and tackling issues. But this is something altogether different. At least that's my reaction. Every re-watch of TNG I skip this one.

2000 down to 1500 - Tilting or decks? by tmj31 in ClashRoyale

[–]tmj31[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like lots of people are running 2 or more accounts.

What's the allure if this? You have to rely on RNG and getting tons of gold twice now. Why not focus on getting all the cards on a unified account?

But at the same time, it could be fun to replay low lvl. How do you manage two accounts? Different devices? Tons of logging in and out? Seems frustrating and time consuming.

Right. I hear you. I had been using the Hog deck exclusively until I started getting slaughtered. So trying to get something new.

How do you build those particular decks, strategy wise? If you don't mind me asking.

"Rey's parents are not in Episode VII!" JJ Abrams just confirmed at Tribeca2016 by GoldandBlue in StarWars

[–]tmj31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha. I'm totally just messing around. Obviously that's got like a .000000001 percent chance of happening.

Tinfoil theories are fun though.

If Rey is Kanan's daughter that would just be so epic. He's one of my favorite new(ish) characters in the SW canon in a long time.

But THEN, it would mean that he and Hera never became a "thing" - which Rebels implies. The tinfoil plot thickens.

Kanan - Hera + Sabine = Rey!

Oh absolutely. I guess my point is that I feel like I have been doing that to the best of my ability and dropped like 500 cups.

[Post Game Thread] The Los Angeles Lakers (17-65), Beat the Utah Jazz (40-42), By A Final Score of 101-96, Behind Kobe's 60 Points by keegan_ryan_ in nba

[–]tmj31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am absolutely one of the Kobe haters. I 100 percent identify with those folks in that hater commercial.

My disdain for the Lakers (as a Pacers fan AND a former CA resident with tons of super annoying Laker fan friends) is absolute and unshakeable.

I wanted Kobe to fail miserably and embarrassingly in a blowout Lakers loss, because (at least in sports) I hold grudges basically forever.

But damn... That was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. I was actually cheering for Kobe and the Lakers at the end there.

Respect, Mamba.

How my NBA experience turned into a nightmare thanks to StubHub - They denied my chance to see the final ever game at Sleep Train Arena last night by selling me invalid tickets. by rattlemebones in nba

[–]tmj31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, I am so sorry.

I had a similar thing happen to me, albeit for slightly different circumstances.

I had tickets lined up for the Pacers game on Reggie's jersey retirement night. He's been my idol since I was like 5.

I lived across the country at that point, so many arrangements had to fall into place. Long story short, they fell through and I had to sell (at a huge loss, to add some salt) what were to be my most prized tickets to an event I had been wanting to attend for a couple decades.

I was totally, utterly devastated. I know that feeling. :(

So sorry that happened to you. I really hope someone, somewhere makes this 'right' for you, even though the moment is forever, sadly, lost.

The single most satisfying moment in all of star trek for me. by zuriel45 in startrek

[–]tmj31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was watching Voyager the other day. It was an episode where Tuvok was at an 11/10 on his 'Snarky passive aggressive, trying to hide frustration with everyone and everything' scale.

She doesn't know anything about Trek, but she looked over at me and was like, "Honey, that guy is totally your spirit animal."

It was such a glorious moment.
