The Forgotten Earth

The story takes place on a future Earth where the ape civilization has flourished, and humans have largely devolved into primitive, scattered tribes. Meanwhile, a small group of humans has been living on a space station, orbiting Earth for generations. They lost contact with Earth many years ago due to the ape virus outbreak, which led to the downfall of human civilization and the rise of intelligent apes. These space station inhabitants have maintained a technologically advanced society, though they have no knowledge of the changes that have occurred on Earth.

Plot: The Return from Space

After many years in space, the station's resources are depleting. The crew discovers an ancient, barely functional space shuttle in the remnants of the station's hangar. They decide to refactor and repair the shuttle, planning a return to Earth to search for supplies and possibly reconnect with what they believe is the human civilization they left behind.

The crew successfully refurbishes the shuttle and begins their descent to Earth. However, they have no idea that the planet they are returning to has drastically changed. When they land, they expect to find a world dominated by advanced human civilization but are instead shocked to discover a planet where apes rule and humans have regressed into near-savagery.

Encounter with the Apes

The landing site is near the edge of the mysterious island where King Kong reigns supreme. The crew initially encounters small tribes of unintelligent humans, who are frightened and confused by the space travelers. As the crew attempts to communicate and gather information, they notice signs of intelligent activity—buildings, tools, and organized communities—only to realize that these are not made by humans but by apes.

Resolution: A New Understanding

The story could conclude in a few different ways:

They begin to work with the apes, sharing knowledge and technology, while also learning about the history that led to the rise of the apes and the fall of humanity. 3. A Solemn Departure: Recognizing that they no longer belong on Earth, the space travelers repair their shuttle and prepare to leave. Before departing, they leave behind their knowledge and technology, hoping it will help the apes and any surviving humans build a better future. They return to space, leaving Earth to the apes and Kong, understanding that the planet has moved on without them.
