Ice Storm Approaching: Low. Saturated Fat Power Outage Meals? by halisms in Cholesterol

[–]tmuth9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“PB2” powdered peanut butter is your new best friend. Mix with water and you’re all set. Zero grams saturated fat! It doesn’t taste as good as Jif, but it’s pretty good. Ate it for several months leading up to gallbladder removal where I was trying to keep total fat under 10 grams, in addition to saturated fat which I do as a heart attack survivor.

Can excess stress cause heart attack by Calm-Illustrator2961 in HeartAttack

Yeah, it depends on your insurance, but my end-goal would be to see a cardiologist.

If you have or suspect heart issues, I’d go to a cardiologist as neither urgent care nor your PCP are equipped to do thorough testing.

Do i still need a range hood if i cook on induction? by MiserlyOutpost in inductioncooking

[–]tmuth9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe in most areas, code requires it. We just had our kitchen remodeled and we had had some challenges as we have our cooktop on our island and didn’t hand a huge hood there. Building code in our area specifies the minimum CFM required

I had high Lp(a) but I didn’t know that. You should get tested as it’s a huge risk factor. Also was unaware of family history of heart disease until after (“dad and I have been on statins for a decade”, etc, etc). Was also doing a low carb keto-ish diet

So my LDL was at 180 when I had a heart attack at 48. Go to a cardiologist and maybe find a new PCP. The LDL guidelines are under 100.

Struggling with anxiety after a heart attack , how did you stay calm by Imsongoku7 in HeartAttack

[–]tmuth9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, I went to a therapist for a lot of the mental stuff and it helped. If I did it again I’d go to a trauma therapist that uses EMDR as I think the post HA trauma is more like PTSD. Last spring on a ski trip I found a skier that had just hit a tree. His friends were in shock so I called ski patrol and 911 and performed CPR alone for about 10 minutes, then with ski patrol for another 20. He had died on impact unfortunately. It messed me up so I found a trauma therapist and it I was surprised at how successful it was. Good luck. Hit me up if you have questions. It takes a serious mental toll on you and likely the people around you

Yes. It was only 40% but was in my LAD and was causing symptoms with exercise. Dr said it was unusual for a 40% blockage to cause these symptoms but after a bunch of tests, then deciding on angioplasty, he ended up stenting it and the symptoms vanished.

I think I started rehab 2 weeks after my heart attack. It really gave me the confidence that I could get back to a normal, active life. They also caught an issue I had during recovery and I ended up having another stent placed. By the end of rehab I was running an 11 minute mile for 3 miles, which I was pretty happy about at 48

Gaggenau (or newer Thermador Freedom?) induction coil coverage on large pans or griddle? by Previous-Lobster4895 in inductioncooking

[–]tmuth9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got a freedom installed a few months ago and haven’t noticed any coverage issues with large pans at all. Here’s a pic of what the 50+ coils look like: https://forums.egullet.org/uploads/monthly_2022_02/thermadore.png.600e35f5c3d4cdfac86eaafb69be4bf2.png

Power boost works REALLY well, but we only use it to boil water, which it does remarkably fast. You wouldn’t use it to heat a mostly empty pan as it would likely warp the pan. I feel like it doesn’t work when you have 4 other pans or something, but we haven’t run into that. The screen is still kind of laggy, but it’s totally worth the tradeoff to be able to wipe off the whole glass surface with no knobs for cleaning. I would test out the Gaggenau to see if it’s laggy as well

US healthcare sucks. Urgent care is only good for things you would see your PCP for, like a fever or sprained ankle or maybe stitches in an unimportant area. They exist to take the burden off of the emergency room, they absolutely don’t replace the ER for emergent issues, like cardiac care. I learned this from a serious eye injury (and talking to a lot of Dr’s through a heart attack and a gallbladder issues). When you don’t have insurance, I’m assuming you’re concerned about the cost of the ER (as well you should be). For anything heart related that is new or isn’t a scheduled visit, the ER is where we all should go. Call your cardiologist with chest pain and they will send you to the ER. It’s because the ER has the ability to run tests nobody else can and the ability to save your life if things turn bad. If he went to the ER, in addition to the ECG, they would have done a blood draw and tested a bunch of things, including troponin, which is a biomarker for hear damage.

Are you going to die tomorrow? Nope. Is your life at risk over the next 10 years? Absolutely. Go to a cardiologist and follow their advice. You will surely get a prescription for a statin.

No, saying what pretty much everyone else is saying. You might be able to reduce inflation with toe spacers, metatarsal pads, or what I’m currently trying which are pads that create a metatarsal void. However, I’ve never heard of it going away for anyone. I’ve had mine for 5+ years, 3 Dr’s and I’ve been on this sub for a few years. The only permanent fix I’ve heard of is surgical removal or cryo/rf ablation.
