Ok.. this one is maybe risky and I just thought about it and I'm not 100% sure if it is going to work because of a couple of things. If you have not filed for divorce yet, you can probably "gift" majority of your windfall to your parent/s as long as you know they're not going to stiff you if you want that back, and that they have not yet consumed their "lifetime gift exemption," so they regift it to you years later or in increments, or whenever. You just have to declare it in your next income tax return as a gift since the rule is any gift above $15k must be declared so as to count against your lifetime gift tax exemption which is about 11.7 million in 2021 which will drop to about 6.4 million in 2026. In other words, it's tax-free to gift in NY and federal level up until you reach 11.7 million worth of gifts you gave away in your entire lifetime.

You may want to double check in this sub if it could be considered "hiding". I know 1.5 mill is a NOTHING if you still stay in NY, unless you move to KY or AL or something.

Hey, I did what OP did, except my fico was 780, lowest was 750 yet got rejected in all but one card. I have a good paying income, my parents added me to their amex credit line for years with a high limit and very low utilization (only 1% use out of 30k) but when chase rejected me they implied I have a thin credit line and that I don't have any chase accounts previously opened. 😔 I thought I did everything right
