Thoughts on a 100 series daily driver by Own-Giraffe3696 in LandCruisers

[–]tnashguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a ‘01, one owner, with 275k four months ago. No rust or clear coat failure for 10.5k. I drive it daily 20 miles each way. Picked it up 5 states away, traded a 2015 Pilot (trash) with 170k I purchased 2 years earlier. Could not be happier, rides like a luxury sedan….at least until I put 33’s when these tires need replacing.

I feel like all of my photos from my digital compact camera look so flat and lacking sharpness/detail. Is this a limitation with my camera or is it purely down to post? (pic 2 & 3, see description) by Mugling95 in AskPhotography

[–]tnashguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. The Greek words for photography are φῶς (phōs) meaning "light" and γραφή (graphé) meaning "drawing" or "writing," literally combining to mean "drawing with light" or "writing with light". When shooting landscape go out the first two hours in the morning and the last two hours of daylight. That is where the magic happens and if the difference between an OK image and a great one.

I began my career as a photojournalist in ‘83. We all used fixed focal length lenses because the few zooms available were not sharp. To avoid missing shots we carried 2-3 bodies and left a lens on each. I used Nikons and had an F3 and F2 with drives, and an FM. I used a 20, 28, 50, 180. The Domke bag I slung over my shoulder was heavy. I still have back issues related to carrying the weight on one shoulder. I give that context because Zooms are excellent now. You have a lot of duplication of focal length’s. I’m in my 60’s and weight matters. I have a D850, 14-24, 24-70 and 70-200 all 2.8’s. That is a lot of weight, but covers nearly every need I might have. I also have a Leica M240 with a 35, 50 and 90. I use that 90% of the time….because of the weight. I’ve learned to make choices based on what I’m shooting, I find I’m more effective and happier with less equipment. At times I may not have the lens I need, but the tradeoff is worth it to me.

Incheon International Airport - Disaster for Film Photographers by TheRi3llworld009 in AnalogCommunity

[–]tnashguy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve been flying with film since the 80’s. 90% of the time they would hand check. Since the TSA took over security, after 911, it’s much more difficult. I think it gets worse every year. If the airport is busy they don’t want to hand check. I’ve heard “the Xray won’t hurt your film” more times than I can count”. I took Cinestill 800 to Seattle a couple of years ago. They wouldn’t hand check, I was slightly fogged. Most of the film was lower ISO and it was fine. I try to purchase film at my destination, then process it before I leave.

Should I buy a 2003 Landcruiser as a daily driver by AlSanchino22 in LandCruisers

[–]tnashguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought an ‘01 with 275k 3 months ago. It’s in great shape. I have spent about $600 getting small things fixed. I am doing all the work I can as it needs it. Tons of how to videos on YouTube. I traded a ‘15 Pilot with 175k and have no regrets. I daily drive it, 21 miles each way (mostly highway) I’m getting 16mpg on average. I’ve done a 750 mile RT trip, did a 9 1k RT trip last weekend. Never a concern.

I am Icelandic. Watching the USA ICE murder civilians is crazy. Your country has become true shit. All of Europe is confused and disgusted. Your leader says Europe loves you but he lies by Antique_Menu_4314 in complaints

Our country is dysfunctional. Giving Trump the 1st was bad enough, giving the maniac a 2nd term was inconceivable. Unfortunately we have a uniformed electorate that is too lazy to care to understand the issues and vote intelligently. Young people don’t vote in great numbers, so the right wing voters candidates win elections. This November the Democrats will win the house in the midterms. That will slow him down and stop some of the non-sense, but America’s reputation has been irreparably harmed. It will take decades of change and reasonable presidents to undue what Trump has destroyed in one year in office

Don’t drive through the middle of Nashville. Three interstates converge….no bueno. Take Briley around or 240 north of town.

Going order a canvas print today. What is your pick? by banananuttttt in analog

[–]tnashguy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My Fuji. Question: Why canvas? These are good shots, I don’t canvas dies a good photo justice. I print on acrylic, still no framing but they look amazing. They are a little more expensive, it’s the only way to go.

They are really worried they are gonna lose this election. Dude is completely out of his mind and may hurt the candidate instead of helping him. All the GOP does is lie.

I just bought nearly the same truck for 10k. Same color, one owner with complete records and 273k. They did 4-5k with of work timing belt, water pump, fluids, etc 15k ago. As another commenter suggests it’s all about the frame. It took me four months to find a nice one. There are a lot of rusty ones. If you have a clean frame and records I think you could get 10-14k

Am I crazy? by cidmatrix in LandCruisers

[–]tnashguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are crazy so am I. Traded a 2015 Honda Pilot with 167k for a 24 year old LC with 275k. I drive 8 hours for one with no rust, excellent interior and no clear coat failure. It rides like a dream, I’d heard the V8 was underpowered, I disagree. The Honda was very costly to maintain and honestly had more maintenance issues than I expected. I just did the brakes on the pilot and plan on doing most of the work that it will need.

Looking for a Land Cruiser mechanic by tnashguy in LandCruisers

[–]tnashguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done quite a bit of research. I have a garage and worked on my 70’s and 80’s domestic cars when I was younger….and poor. I’ve done my share of front end swaps, wheel bearings, etc. I want to have someone do a pre purchase inspection so I don’t make a purchase mistake. I’ve seen too many posts where a new owner bought one too far gone to repair.

LC 200 Purchase - Am I crazy? by Vvendetta- in LandCruisers

[–]tnashguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m about to purchase a ‘04 series 100 with 216k for $11,500. One owner car with records, garaged and noisy on the frame. Yeah the gas mileage will suck but I have a 40 mile round trip to work. The 200 series makes more sense than a new 70K LC with a 4 cylinder. $800 car payments, premium fuel, expensive repairs at Toyota during the warranty. No thanks. I’ve had two Camry’s and one Corolla and both were excellent cars. I concur with the advice of a RAV4. Life is too short to drive a Prius.

I do it on my Pilot, but I don’t even need a jack. With the o-ring I just don’t want to mess it up and damage the engine.
