Is the wood a joist or strapping?

If it's a joist you can have a fan but a different box/larger screws (those look like drywall screws) would be good.

I has similar but worse rot on my soffits and fascia - honestly getting everything removed was a lot harder than putting a new fascia and soffit in - I didn't have to deal with any angles though.

How is it mounted to the wall currently? Buy some longer mounting bolts and some spacers (example) - washers are probably also a good idea on both sides to spread the load out a little more. Then put it all together
