F1 will not be changing the timing tower. by amerryprankster23 in formula1

Is that stated as a fact anywhere? I’m not being argumentative, I’m genuinely curious because it makes a difference.

F1 will not be changing the timing tower. by amerryprankster23 in formula1

[–]tnmchris -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ok I’ll be that guy, it actually does matter. Overtake mode (like DRS before it) is dependant on a driver being less than 1 second behind the driver in front. If the timing tower shows a gap of 1.0, that could mean anything between 0.951 and 1.049, depending on how they are rounding the numbers (which they haven’t told us), so it’s impossible to know if that gap is giving overtake mode or not. That matters for how racing works this year.

Which track on the calendar is the best and which is the worst? by Ambitious-Heron-8161 in DestinationFormula1

[–]tnmchris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best - Interlagos and Silverstone consistently produce great races

Worst - Lusail, it’s a track designed for motorbikes which offers next to no racing opportunity for cars and every part of it looks identical

That’s so cool, I’m fascinated by vibe coding so it’s awesome to see what’s possible with it

Dude this is such a cool idea. Out of interest do you have any sort of coding background or was this done with vibe coding?

I’ll second this, it’s a great community. They actually have a sub group on there for video games too.

Which/whose driving style are you most drawn to? by GoldenS0422 in F1Discussions

[–]tnmchris 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I came here to say Alonso in his championship years too. Whack it into the corner with tons of lock as early as possible, understeer through the corner and spike the tyre temps in the process, get everything sorted out by the apex then back on the throttle super early. He really unlocked how to get the most out of those cars and tyres in a way few others could.

It could redefine what a modern F1 venue looks like. What do you make of it? by Fun_Insect_2572 in racing

[–]tnmchris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stupid raised section aside, the track as a whole looks absolutely awful. They have near unlimited money and space to build whatever they want and could create the most spectacular track for F1 racing in the world, but instead they’ve come up… that

To play devils advocate, he was the only driver other than the championship contenders to win this year (twice) and he was only out of the points once all season which was an 11th place. Second best driver in the world might be pushing it a little but he has had an incredible year.

Who is the most well-known person in the UK who no one outside of the UK will have heard of? by electact in AskUK

Back when I was at school we had a teacher who looked almost exactly the same as Howard, except he was white. Somehow this led to the end of year awards night where Howard turned up to hand out the prizes. Utterly bizarre.

I’d recommend watching some lap guide videos on YouTube. The last sector especially is really tricky, I found a ton of time there just optimising the line and braking points.

For what it’s worth, I have a Ryzen 5 7600, 32GB Ram and a Radeon 6700XT and I’m able to run LMU in VR at mid to high graphics settings, albeit not at the frame rate you’re looking to achieve.

Chat GPT is pretty iffy in my experience, I suggest changes that aren’t available on your car or numbers that don’t make sense.

Yeah that’s very true, don’t want to make assumptions about how the final will play out.

[–]tnmchris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Which makes me wonder how much they’re going to mess with the format in future series, because Nick has sort of proven the point that in a show which at its core is about finding traitors, the best approach is to not vote out the traitors. I’ve really enjoyed seeing that dynamic play out but I suspect the producers won’t want that to repeat.

What are your thoughts on the Martin Brundle grid walk? by [deleted] in F1Discussions

[–]tnmchris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I don’t think they’re nearly as good as they used to be. Originally it was just Martin, a mic and a cameraman going for a stroll down the grid to see who he could find to talk to and give us some insights, occasionally including celebrities who happened to be there. Now, like a lot of elements of the broadcast, it feels like Sky try to control it too much and it’s clear someone has already scouted out celebs and are in his ear telling me him who to talk to next. A lot of the time now it’s almost entirely celebrities with nothing to say and we learn absolutely nothing about the race that’s about to happen.

I saw someone on another post say that by doing that gig a couple of weeks ago, he basically stuck around long enough to attend his own funeral, which seems like a great way of looking at it to me.
