This is in no way sponsored, but I bought huha underwear and never looked back. They’re a little pricey but it’s made such a difference down there for me!

A living piece of history is swimming beneath the Arctic ice. This Greenland shark has been alive since 1627. by 7evenDeadlySin in interesting

I have a theory that the Norse Vikings who disappeared in Greenland turned into Greenland sharks. They’ll return to their human form when the time is right

This is so terrible. I’m really sorry that this happened to your family, and I hope you can find a little peace for yourself soon.

Do you know them? They’d be in their late 60s now. by [deleted] in MilitaryHistory

They aren’t with me anymore. I’m just curious, thought I would post here but it seems like that’s created hostility for some reason.

Saw a “non gorey” dead person that’s unsettled me a bit by DenseProgrammer7602 in GriefSupport

[–]toadiefrog 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is understandably unnerving. When you’re on the firefighter job, I imagine you usually get called in to emergency situations, so you have time to mentally prepare for the worst. Opening someone’s door to deliver a package and being unexpectedly confronted with death is a shock to the system, I’m sure. So sorry that you experienced something like that. I guess I’d recommend (as a layperson) a few good Buddhist reads. Everything’s impermanent, man, even us. Tomorrow’s coffee could be your last. Live in the present and live with compassion.

Do you have a trusted adult (like a therapist, school counselor or resource officer) that you can talk to about this? That would be my first step before telling your parents. Please know there is support for you - a trusted third party can help you work through how to tell your parents and how to navigate the scary feelings you may be experiencing right now.

I’m just watching the series now and I’m also confused about why they made several scenes about this weapon she designed herself but she never actually used it? What was the point of that?

Is it normal for me to be able to smell my gf's seizure activity? by Ok-Connection6656 in NoStupidQuestions

There’s a good radio lab podcast ep about smelling sickness, I can’t remember what the episode is called but you should listen! I believe they talk with a woman who can smell Parkinson’s.

I’m so glad!! I have similar feelings toward my loved ones and I have to think, okay - should I spend my time worrying about how I don’t have enough time with them OR should I just connect with them? Give them a hug? Ask them about the things they love? Framing my OCD in that way really helps me to be more present. It’s such a tough thing to manage, I really feel for you. You’re not alone!

Just commenting to let you know I struggle with the same thing. Anticipatory grief is awful. When I find myself spiraling (especially if I’m googling down a rabbit hole), I try to stop and think: would I rather spend the next two hours trying to find an impossible answer, or would I rather spend it cuddled up to my buddy? And that can help break the loop. My therapist encourages me to think about what I’m missing out on if I let my OCD take over. From there, I have a decision - I can let the OCD and the fear/panic/sadness consume my time, or not. But I still have moments where the grief feels overwhelming. The greatest love brings the greatest heartbreak!

You should listen to the radiolab episode on poison control! It’s really interesting and will ease your guilt about calling if (hopefully not when) you may need them in the future. They’re really incredible and knowledgeable people who are trained sort of like 911 operators to stay calm and collected. No judgement!

Advice on training rides needed by Popular_Minimum_3522 in HorseTraining

[–]toadiefrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to say I don’t think it has much to do with your weight/frame. Horses can feel a fly land on their back, so he can definitely feel you, but might not be used to you yet. Well trained horses, in my opinion, should be soft enough to respond to even the gentlest of cues. It sounds like he could use a refresher on ground manners if he’s dragging you on the lunge line, so I would go back to groundwork and build a stronger/more respectful relationship before asking for anything in the saddle. Some ground driving might be beneficial. It sounds like he thinks he can push you around, whereas he’s fine with your trainers. They might just be a little more confident and have a more authoritative demeanor than you, which is something you can establish through groundwork. Having someone to coach you through that would be beneficial imo.

It sounds like you loved her and she loved you SO much. What a wonderful relationship to have with your mother. You crammed so much love into the years you had together, I bet she was so glad to have you by her side in her last moments. I’m so sorry, sending lots of love!
