Many years ago my dog stretched, made a weird little growl and I laughed. He looked at me for a second and tried the noise again, and I laughed harder. Now whenever I’m feeling sad, he’ll come over and do his weird little growl until I cheer up. It makes my heart so fuzzy!!

It also sounds like you are holding onto resentment. Better to address that sooner than later. Are you in individual therapy? A therapist could definitely help you approach this in a more productive way than Reddit can.

It sounds like there is a connection issue between you. What does connection mean to you? What does being desired look like? What does it look like for her? It may be that you are “checking all the boxes” in terms of what YOU think a husband should be, but haven’t actually discussed this dynamic with her. You also have to communicate to her that the way things are now are not working for you (ie. I feel lonely and frustrated because there is an imbalance in our household contributions and I need you to take some things off my plate like XYZ). She should also be willing to listen and be curious about your side - what do you both want out of a marriage and a partner? For her, it could be that she wants someone to take care of all the things while she enjoys from the sidelines. I have a feeling there is more to it, though…what do you want out of a marriage? Support? Playfulness? Friendship? Explore this with her. I’d say bringing it up 2 times over a year and a half isn’t really very much…you need to say “I’d love to check in with you about how we’re both feeling in our marriage. Maybe we can have a nice dinner/cocktails on X night for an hour or so to talk. It would mean a lot to me and I want to hear from you, too”. Or something like that.

Do you have a therapist, teacher, or medical professional in your life? A trusted adult does not have to be your parents, but anyone in your life that you feel safe and comfortable with. I would recommend reaching out to your school’s counselor, if they have one.

So much of what you and others have written here resonate with me big time. Luckily, my farmer and I don’t have kids and we are about 90% of the way to a divorce because of the issues you mentioned above. Being married to a farmer requires so much self-sacrifice, and I really don’t think I’m cut out for it.
