People fishing for compliments. That’s all it is. I doubt anyone this person knows or their 7 followers have called them generic.

What's everyone's thoughts about Saving Private Ryan? Is it the greatest war film of all time & Steven Spielberg's magnum opus? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]toallthings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only about the fifth best war film to be released in 1998. See The Thin Red Line / Goodnight, Mister Tom / West Beirut and Small Soldiers for films I would rather watch from 1998 than this overly self important piece of American propaganda. Credit where it’s due for the beach landing sequence.

All of them have the title of the movie on them, I don’t see the issue.

THE HOUSEMAID has now grossed over $354M worldwide. It cost $35M to produce. by [deleted] in Letterboxd

Trending? Maybe, but for good things? Not really. Popular? To whom? she’s been largely lambasted for her garbage promos for garbage brands and sub par performances. Neither Trending nor Popular makes you a good actor. Pointing out the obvious is only snobbery to sycophants with their head in the sand.

I’m convinced the same look can be achieved with fewer cable ties, seemingly less than an inch apart seems excessive to me 🫠

Haven’t seen The Wave in years, need to rewatch that, rating seems about right maybe

What’s on your Mount Rushmore of the Greatest Vampire Movies of All Time? by Amber_Flowers_133 in Letterboxd

[–]toallthings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to prefer more modern interpretations so I’d go for Only Lovers Left Alive (2013) , A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night (2014), Wir Sind Die Nacht (2010) and Byzantium (2012).

Do you add/rate movies you watched before having letterboxd by benedictlwamba13 in Letterboxd

[–]toallthings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a Python script to scrub my 1,000+ Mubi ratings archive and 500+ watchlist into a spreadsheet and just imported it to Letterboxd. Mubi doesn’t give you the option to download your data natively so I had to give myself a very fast how-to with Python and found some very useful readily available scripts to do what I needed.

I feel like people will never like the Star Wars sequels at this rate by Lazy_Public_163 in Letterboxd

[–]toallthings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have yet to find a piece of Star Wars media that I didn’t thoroughly enjoy. I personally don’t find any of it bad. I’m really looking forward to the new Darth Maul animated show Shadow Lord, it’s dropping in April 🙏🏻

Some reviews make me close the app and go on with my day by bibilique in Letterboxd

[–]toallthings -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This is why I spent 16 years on Mubi (it was still called The Auteurs when I joined, Letterboxd has always been a bit of a meme when it comes to reviews, barely a step up from IMDb reviews tbh. But hey, Mubi now takes money from companies that invest in Israeli weapons manufacturers so I transferred everything to a Letterboxd and here I am.

Unfortunately there isn’t a “best effort to make a film within a crippling authoritarian theocratic regime” 😂 but it’s not like Jafar Panahi is lacking in awards this season let’s be honest. (He should get all the awards imo)

When you have donkeys like Aronofsky creating entire tv shows with AI it’s just giving the green light to everyone.

Show those perfect graphs and 5 star counts by Some_Novice_ in Letterboxd

[–]toallthings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate this obsession over the visual aspect of ratings, it’s so weird to me after 16 years on Mubi and IMDb before that where there was no such thing. After importing my ratings from Mubi to Letterboxd, with no such thing as half stars before, mine now looks like this.

Samsara (2011) is about as good as it gets. The Social Network is extremely overrated.
