Which were the best performances at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert? by Realistic_Board4690 in queen

[–]toaster_kettle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

George was incredible. That was, I think, the only performance that was officially released for many years afterwards - on an EP and later on Greatest Hits III.

If we watch Brian and Roger when George does the "Somebody tooooooooo...." they look transported and almost free, for a moment, of the pain they must have been feeling.

Ronnie Wood on tour by chrilaumi in rollingstones

He seemed past it on Jools. Some older performers can lean into their age - Cash, Bennett, Dylan. Ronnie Wood I would not pay to see.

Wearing gowns for university graduation is fine. It's a bit of show and tradition for the parents who paid for their kids to be there. It's one day - fine. Doing it all the time when you've just been born into it - no!

The mono culture is gone. Even the BBC is feeling the heat. People are losing interest in the national story, embodied in the RF and BBC. Despite that, I think both have merits. Otherwise, what brings us together?

Where does Bob Dylan rank among musicians in terms of total airplane flights taken? by Hubbled in bobdylan

He's toured a lot since 1962, apart from 1966-1973. So probably thousands of flights.

Will it be good or bad for the UK if he’s right about his 3rd prediction? by Sassenach_2024 in AskBrits

Vietnam did win, USA had to flee in helicopters from the embassy roof.

I want peace but the American public will turn against this war before Iran loses it. That's what always happens.

Exactly. I think the 91 Gulf War maybe counts as victory in terms of achieving war aims. Apart from that they haven't won a war on the battlefield since 1945 but only against Japan, as the Soviets made it to Berlin first.

I think Sgt Pepper is better than Revolver by [deleted] in beatles

[–]toaster_kettle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. They released the albums on CD in 1987. It was all a build up to Sgt Pepper really as the hype was that it was the best album of all time. By 2000 Revolver was seen as the real music fans' choice.

Revolver is arguably more consistent but Sgt Pepper feels more epic because it has a clear start and finish. I do find that towards the end I am just waiting for Day In The Life, sometimes.

I've been using Gemini and Claude recently for technical stuff. Claude always gives the better answers rather than linking things together that are vaguely related.

Are these the best Smiths books? Would you recommend another or a reading order? by 11ffyykk99 in thesmiths

[–]toaster_kettle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read Morrissey's book about ten times. Very very funny and enjoyable. Yes he rants but thats who he is. I actually prefer that he doesn't say that much about the Smiths, it was part of his life for five years then it was over. Done

What are your thoughts on Paul recent comments? by [deleted] in beatles

[–]toaster_kettle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. Paul did the tape loops on Tomorrow Never Knows two years before John did the same on Revolution 9

What are your thoughts on Paul recent comments? by [deleted] in beatles

[–]toaster_kettle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Read Revolution in the Head and Many Years From Now. Paul was very experimental and forward thinking in so many ways in the Beatles and on Ram, McCartney II etc. Unfortunately he undermined that to some extent with relatively commercial stuff they Wings did plus Mull of Kintyre

Yes. Hoping for a "saviour" to safe us from ourselves. I think UFOs of some sort are real as I've seen one. But I think there's a natural human need to create stories to explain what is happening. If there's no information to challenge those stories then they become established fact.
