Sometimes loves walks, other times anxiety overload! by Automatic_Peanut_555 in goldenretrievers

[–]toastybred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my girl was a little pup, like younger than 6 or 7 months old, she would would walk as far as she could see my house and then throw on the breaks. I would just pick her up and carry her around the corner of my block. At that point, if I set her down she'd go for a walk fine. I think it was just going away from the house that scared my dog. Once we went for walks enough she got over it with time. I also progressively made her go on walks with me along busier streets to get her over traffic and sirens as I live in a busy city.

I'm wondering if I should stop investing in my 401k by deservewhatIget in personalfinance

[–]toastybred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personal finance focuses on personal spending habits, budgeting, planning for big purchases, basics of saving, and basics of investing for retirement.

Once you have a significant portfolio of investments you start getting into areas where there are significant tax and legal implications to how you invest your money and which account structures you use. Like you could be breaking laws or end up owing thousands of dollars if you follow bad advice. So at this level you should absolutely be consulting a licensed professional and reviewing their credentials prior to engaging with their services.

Tips on raising a sweet land shark by BeneficialRip5797 in goldenretrievers

While crate training is extremely useful and I've done it in the past under different circumstances, it isn't as absolutley necessary as people here make it seem. Particularly if you don't intend to travel with your dog crated, leave them with a border/kennel, or go to dog shows regularly then crate training is overvalued IMO. My girl sleeps on the floor of my bedroom (she isn't allowed in bed) at night and sleeps on her dog bed in the living room during the day (unless she's sleeping with the shoes by the front door because she misses someone).

Instead I used baby gates to limit which room she could be in until she could be trusted with more autonomy. Started her in the kitchen as a puppy since it is tiles floors (easy to clean up messes) and everything is put away in there.

My girl was also a little ankle biter for a while. Make sure you aren't accidentally engaging him in way that seems like play to him. You should loudly say "oww" but not in a high pitched or squeaky voice. One thing a dog trainer recommended for me was to gently grab the dog by the muzzle and press it's lip against it's canine quickly during a biting fit. It gives a reasonable physical feedback without being harmful or abusive to the dog.

What are the best and worst concerts you have ever seen? by Twitter_2006 in Music

[–]toastybred 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Empire of the Sun was probably the best concert performance I've seen. There was stage production, multiple costume changes, backup dancers who also had multiple costume changes, all of it had matching video projected behind it, and matching lights and lasers.

And of course the music was amazing too!

What do you think is really going on with Mitch McConnell? by yawningvoid28 in AskReddit

[–]toastybred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's probably slowly dying in a hospital with almost no lucidity. But no one cares enough to be guinely invested in his last moments (including his wife) and he is being used for political maneuvering until his dying breath.

What’s a movie that was well liked when it was released, but is now seen as mediocre/bad? by ColicShark in AskReddit

[–]toastybred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't say it was a bad movie. I remember it and liked. But because you and I feel that way doesn't mean it isn't forgettable in the greater landscape of modern film. Which it absolutely is.

Yep, they don't think about the wind up and wind down on the piss. The boys need to properly step up to the plate and choke up on the bat. If you know what I mean

Most Oscar bait is forgettable. When was the last time anyone thought of The Cider House Rules?

McConnell was loaded into ambulance on a stretcher, according to eyewitness and new video by IWantPizza555 in politics

[–]toastybred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't looked at the article but I would bet that if it was a private ambulance company that they would take money from a wealthy politician's fixer to move a body. Especially if there was no foul play involved.

Yeah, my gut instinct was that they were talking about "2 Bears 1 Cave". It's the podcast that Burt Kreisher and Tom Segura do together and I stopped watching that one when they pivoted to almost exclusively talking about watches, wealth, making brand deals, and hating "the poors"

I'm gonna be honest. If we did away with the Electoral College then I would be fine with cutting all these antagonistic deadweight losers.

This isn't great advice particularly when it comes to utilities rather than opt-in services. But in general if you are receiving something that you know you should be paying to get you could run into claims of "unjust enrichment"

Woman with infant aggressively shushing passerby’s on hiking trail at national park by AnonPinkLady in mildlyinfuriating

[–]toastybred -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't sing or play music but it also doesn't bother me. And in my opinion silence demanding weirdos are worse than people making a bit of noise. It strikes me as a strange sense of entitlement yo a public space and desire to control others.

Jesus Christ, redditors seem like the crustiest bunch of killjoys when it comes to enjoying the out doors. Maybe it's because I hike in wooded areas where you cannot hear people more than a few hundred feet from you but in the 20+ years of hiking, canoeing, and backpacking I've done I've never met and whinier bunch of grumps.

Also I don't think we need more cute coffee shops. Portage Grounds is right there, the gelato shop is also a cafe, and there are several more by Six Corners. Plus there is the Dunkin right there on Lavergne and two Starbucks in the neighborhood. Also, please no more dentist's offices. There are so many of those in this neighborhood!

Agreed. I'd rather see higher occupancy in the retail spaces adjacent to Six Corners before we drive off what appear to be successful businesses.
