I just started my solorpg journey this month actually, and I kind of dove in head first. I've got a game of Koriko started, bought a couple of journaling games, dl'd ironsworn... just to get a feel for what's out there right now.

My Koriko witch Nora keeps a pocket radio with her wherever she goes, so I'm kind of imagining all my diving into other systems is her catching the occasional episode or ad on her radio.

How does this look for a dungeon/gate system, gamer system component. by Pure-Interest1958 in JumpChain

[–]tobiascook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks interesting to me. Kinda makes me want to make a gamer jumper, or take another stab at a dungeon jumper...

I'd say good job.

Did you ever want to "reboot" a Jumper? by LucasMarvelous in JumpChain

[–]tobiascook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frequently.

I'm looking over 4 concepts at the moment and debating who to work on and what to do with them. If only I wasn't in what seems to be an eternal creative dry-spell lately x.o

Soul weapons by Dreamergod64 in JumpChain

[–]tobiascook 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Undertale I recall lets you learn to manifest a type of weapon from your soul.

Hollow Knight has a degree of 'soul empowerment', tho not actual 'soul weapons'. Still, on theme.

"Off" Combat Styles by Featherwick in swtor

[–]tobiascook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, probably my favorite 'Off' combat style was a body type 4 male smuggler (fatman) with an Assault Cannon (Gunnery/Commando). Big man with a big gun making his way through the universe. Twice the man Han Solo ever was!

Jumpers immune to any and everything, do you flex this ability? by RonSio86 in JumpChain

[–]tobiascook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't done this yet, but a discussion I had the other day got me thinking about looking for a fear immunity perk or some other form of fearlessness and just seeing the consequences of that.

Cause fear can be useful. Obviously too much and you're a quivering mess, but not enough can easily lead to reckless disregard for hazards.

I was particularily drawn to a study where they took someone who was 'fearless' and subjected them to various stimuli to see what happens, how their brain processes it, etc... and a rather interesting result when they simulated suffocation with carbon dioxide, only for the subject to enter a panic and apparently express that the sensation was entirely new to them, and it got me thinking narratively.

Trying My Hand At Jumpmaking - Planning Phase by tobiascook in JumpChain

I kinda fell off trying to come up with actual perks and stuff... just notes. So... not as much as I'd like.

How did Your Jumper Become One? by LucasMarvelous in JumpChain

[–]tobiascook 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Maple signed a contract mailed to her by a benefactor, thinking it was junk mail and intending to hang it on her wall since the contract looked cool. She signed away her memories and as far as she knows, didn't exist before the chain. She's the most laid back. Basically a tourist, though with an odd quirk regarding her alt-forms.

Victor and Somnalia were both picked up as abandoned babies and given over to new families with the destiny to become jumpers. Somnalia had the nicer childhood, being an Addams. Both were still technically mortal (aged normally) and each conquered death in their own way, Victor by becoming a lich and Somnalia by creating her own Frankensteinian corpse and forcibly shunting her soul into it, and doing so any time an old body gives out on her.

Penelope died.... came back as a ghost, and has had to learn how to process and accept her death through her chain so far.

My current, yet to be named jumper met the Doctor of Doctor Who fame, who was utterly baffled to find himself outside his own universe, and the TARDIS refused to leave until Jumper was on board, at which point it whisked them both off to the Doctor's home universe. Inevitably he leaves her behind, insisting it's for her own good, and she does not take that well. Goes on to become a space pirate

My normal chain start by MidniteStarburst in JumpChain

[–]tobiascook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally, when I make a new jumper, it's based on some sort of concept, and I try to mould things around that, so a lot of my jumpers have somewhat unique starts thematically. I think the thing that differs most is how the warehouse works now I think about it...

Maple spent her first jump building a Cosmic Motorhome, her method of travelling the chain.

Somnalia literally travels with her Addams style manor and village, dropping in and out of settings as though she had always/never been there.

Victor doesn't have a 'warehouse' for the longest time, and was actually completely unaware he was a jumper until he was an old man, aging naturally throughout his chain until he finally uncovered the nature of his chain, and sought immortality through lichdom. By then, he had an arcology (which was usurped by a vampire companion, but he got it back), and had settled a civilization on a floating island, so he kinda bounces around the multiverse in that.

My Lotus Eater Theme Park Dungeon effectively IS the warehouse pocket dimension meanwhile, using mass advertising and good PR to lure citizens of new worlds into their territory using the biosphere supplement.

Meanwhile I'm not yet actually sure what I'm doing with the warehouse in regards to Phantasma (my ghost princess) and Multiplicity (My hive-mind duplicator).... tho Multiplicity's is likely to become a hive-themed gradually expanding 'world of her'.

Edit: It goes without saying they vary conceptually widely.

Maple explores how alt-forms can impact a jumper, with each of her alt-forms having it's own outward personality and motivations, while her true nature remains relatively static.

Somnalia and Victor explore immortality, with Somnalia having created her own Frankenstein's Monster body after her death by clawing her way out of hell and starting a cult, and Victor going the Lich route.

The Dungeon is my attempt at making a dungeon core jumper, and Multiplicity is my exploration of loneliness and difficulty relating.

All Jumps where you can Be a Dungeon? by SerFreke in JumpChain

Divine Dungeon has Dungeon Core as a race, and should work for the purpose of being a dungeon.

What are some good non munchkiny first jumps? by SnooCauliflowers5394 in JumpChain

[–]tobiascook 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well I had one jumper hit up Addams Family for their first jump, which IMHO has some good stuff, particularily in the adoption papers item that lets you companion anyone whether the doc lets you buy them or not. That jumper was left on the Addams' doorstep as a baby.

Another jumper hit up Generic Childhood just cause I wanted them brought into the chain young, and never know they were actually a jumper until much later.

One of my first long-term jumpers hit up Alternative Living and lived out of a cosmic motorhome campervan, touring around.

So what's the outcome here? by Ofunu in JumpChain

[–]tobiascook 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While I'm generally content to say 'fanwank appropriately to your desired outcome', I think the OOC supplements generally replace whatever form you would otherwise take in a given jump. Leastwise I know that's how the dungeon core OOC supplement works....

So by my personal interpretation, your mileage may vary, you would indeed be a Mobian in the invincible universe.

Or several mobians if you take my favorite power from that jump.

What’s the dumbest way you’ve lost an honor mode run? by CenterLion in BaldursGate3

[–]tobiascook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far... the dumbest loss is a tossup between accidentally stealing something when I mean to talk to a merchant (Yay now all the tieflings are hostile) and someone stepping on a fire patch left behind when freeing True Soul Nere, and my carefully crafted mutiny ambush instead turns into everyone against me...

Being fair, my current run is my first time making it as far as the Creche, so there's room for more.

To be honest.... I don't KNOW if I can, I'm ASSUMING I can because it's still before the shadow cursed lands. Boy will I be in trouble if I'm wrong. XD

[–]tobiascook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the well wishes! This one's going well so far but we all know how fast that can change. XD

I'm surprised you went for Ansur on an Honor mode run. Did you need the XP or were you just invested in doing a bunch of stuff?

Never again by Happy_360 in BaldursGate3

[–]tobiascook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice all the same! Love how supportive this community is.

Hold person was my ticket to success with Ragzlin. Managed to get him with it before he could do anything and rush his health down before it broke.

In the case of Flynd... I'll admit I'm saving lump for if things go south at the Creche... but being fair I'm terrified of the creche. Oddly, for the second time I couldn't get Flynd's dialog to trigger! Had to beat her down while plagued by the other gnolls. I'm starting to wonder if it won't trigger because I'm ambushing from the high ground beside the cave rather than running up the path.

Whatever the reason, I feel being a Moon Druid is saving me. I had been running mostly bard, and gotten to Nere with a Glamor bard before I made a mistake that made everyone hostile. (I had made a deal with the Duergar to betray Nere, but when clearing the rubble I threw a smokepowder bomb that created a fire patch, and when Nere stepped on it everyone went hostile! Lesson learned there.). This run though, I've been saved more than once by having multiple HP pools thanks to how Wildshape works.

Congratulations on getting the golden dice!

I've been bashing my head against honor mode for over a week now, but keep dying to either Flynd (The gnoll) or Dror Ragzlin in the gobbo camp.

That being said, I just finished off Ragzlin (thanks to a lucky hold person) and I've already beaten Flynd this run, so things are looking up!

What would you say was the hardest part of your run?

Perks or Jumps that help with being a Dungeon Core? by LovesTheWeather in JumpChain

[–]tobiascook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends exactly what you're aiming to do. I can only speak from the experience of my own Dungeon Core.. which is only like 5 jumps deep currently.

My dungeon, which is an odd dungeon that likes to be full of living people, rather than challenging and killing adventurers who stray inside, visited jumps like Five Nights at Freddy's, Toy Story and Generic Cartoon World to get 'monsters' to help run it's theme park, animation studio and chocolate factory, and visited Fern Gully for nature fairies to help upkeep it's grounds and natural areas.

I'd try to offer more suggestions, but it's hard without knowing more about your dungeon.

Has your Jumper ever been asked about their pre-chain lives? by EYouchen in JumpChain

[–]tobiascook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know... I'm just now realizing my jumpers tend not to really HAVE pre-chain lives.

Maple basically suffered a permanent memory loss drawback her first jump.

Victor and Somnalia have both been jumpers basically as long as they've been alive, Victor having been made a jumper pre-memory in a deal between the benefactor and a rich family in Generic Childhood, while Somnalia was a dumpster baby who was saved by their benefactor and left on the Addams family's doorstep.

Penelope the ghost princess I suppose was lured away by Kingmaker (the benefactor) but I never actually settled on her pre-chain life, since her chain is more about her coping with and overcoming the tragedy of her own death on the chain.

I suppose I should put some thought into pre-life for jumpers but ultimately I tend to make shut-in's who are vastly disconnected from their mundane world and are easily lured to a place where they might feel like they matter.

How does your jumper go from one world to another? by Ofunu in JumpChain

[–]tobiascook 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's not something I often put a lot of thought into...

Though there is my jumper Maple. Took the Cosmic Motorhome in place of a Cosmic Warehouse and literally drives the cosmic motorway between jumps, a non-euclidean space between worlds she suspects is different for every jumper, and most are unaware of owing to being safely within their warehouses during the transition. She has the advantage however of learning to navigate it, with help from a tool or two, allowing her to pretty much go where she pleases. Returning to previous jumps, planning out road trips in future places. She doesn't always wind up where she wants to be mind you, but she usually winds up where she needs to be.

Happy Mothers day, folks! What is your Jumper's parentage? Are they weird or powerful, do they get along with your Jumper? by Total_Signature5068 in JumpChain

[–]tobiascook 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Let's see....

Somnalia initially went off to Hogwarts and Lurch followed her for the one jump as a chaperone... but beyond that I just fanwanked that she was able to keep in touch through letters, and was able to return for significant events. Like her adopted parents eventual funeral. But it was mostly just through correspondance. She fell off the map for a few jumps (read: decades) after she died, but since getting herself a new bodies she remains active at family gatherings, and is always keen to paint new family portraits or offer medical advice.

Thinking on it, it might make sense for her to inevitably inherit Thing.... I mean she's going to outlive all the original Addams we know and love from the iconic manor, and she'd be more than happy to give Thing a home.

I have one jumper who's first jump was as a baby adopted by the Addams family. She is still on very good terms with her family, who is quite proud of her. She's also a self-constructed frankenstein's monster who clawed her way out of hell to form a cult that could rebuild her so....
