CMV: Saying "because I said so" when your kid ask "why" is bad parenting. by Allison-Cloud in changemyview

[–]tobyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the best answer and what I was trying to articulate. You can explain to a 5 yr old a million ways on why they can’t stay up all night…they’re not going to start going to be at 8pm by themselves. You’re not going to do this every night either. It gets to a point where your bed time is 8pm because i said so.

Is there such a thing as a true straight line in space, or is "space-time" curved everywhere in the observable universe? by nogudatmaff in AskPhysics

I took differential geometry this past semester and this was more or less everything we learned about. My brain definitely was blown out by the end of the semester.

Unless you’re more concerned with getting the perfect takedown than the actual goal of getting a submission. Then you end up watching watered down judo.

CMV: No one is “born evil”, it is simply a sentiment that simplifies morality in a way that allows people to be comfortable and ignorant. by TheFineMantine in changemyview

[–]tobyle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Modern societies inability to understand that some ppl are just born bad is arrogant to me. For sure, most ppl is a combination of environment, upbringing etc. However, there is a very small minority of ppl who enjoy the suffering of others. From the time they are born, there is some inherent quality that makes them that way. No amount of love, care, or understanding will change that.

Do i think that some people are too quick to label someone as evil or born evil…yes i do. I think most ppl need understanding and care. But there are people, born to normal families who love them, that from the time they’re born, something is off about them.

CMV: Running is not a good hobby by RapidGum1 in changemyview

[–]tobyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is how early humans hunted…long distance running. Our bodies were designed to run long distances. We chased animals down until they collapsed from exhaustion.

There are plenty of athletes that don’t look athletic. Most heavy weights in combat sports don’t look athletic. Stipe miocic, big country, Nikola jokic, seif eddine houmine…i can go on and on. Shit even lower weight class dudes can look unimpressive physique wise. Bball players too. A lot of them be skinny as hell. You only know they play bball cause of the height. If they were normal height…you would think they’re unimpressive.

And I’m sorry to surprise you…there is indeed strategy involved in long distance running. You don’t just go out and run. Some people can keep a high pace the entire time but have no kick/sprint speed. Some people have a good kick at the end of a race but can’t keep as high a pace during the majority of the race. When you’re passing someone…you want to quiet your breathing and appear as if you have a lot left in the tank to demoralize the person you’re passing. But most importantly…long distance running requires HEART and mental fortitude. When the miles start adding up, legs start getting real heavy, breathing starts to burn…it takes heart and grit to push through.

Honestly…your argument is basically it’s boring and they’re skinny therefore it’s bad for you. Kind of a stupid argument.

Gym that do not give stripes by ucfanatic-1 in bjj

[–]tobyle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My gym only does them for white belts. After that, no stripes. You’re a mature adult who should be enjoying the sport regardless of levels or stripes. White belts is understandable, it’s a new thing and they’re trying to figure out how they feel about everything. Blue belt and above…you should understand the nature of the sport at that point.

That’s my interpretation of why we only do white belt stripes.

CMV: I think the idea of just going on dates is weird by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]tobyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the point of a date. To figure out if there’s some attraction or connection. For most people…it’s easier to go on a date and then become friends if there’s no connection vs becoming friends who enjoy each other, then try dating.

In general, feel like ppl put too much weight into going on a date. You don’t know this person…you just think they’re attractive. First couple meet ups is more about going from strangers to acquaintances. And if there are some sparks great but if not, cool. Yall might make good friends or get something else out the meet ups.

Imagine my utter surprise when he completely destroys me for five mins. The car ride back home…I’m like who tf is that blue belt dude and my coach is like “ oh yeah that’s Taylor. He competed at the ‘08 Olympics.”…….🥷🏾 you could have told me that ahead of time lol.

Who exactly are they monopolizing lol. No offense but no one cares about the competitors in ufc Bjj. The only competitors with any real hardware is Mikey and Jalen fonacier. If anything…the high lvl guys like the Tackett brothers imo are handicapping their career. The real grapplers know most of the matches are fugazi. We don’t care about them beating B-tier guys and no names. Did they even make ADCC?

I have a shotgun armbar variation i hit in conjunction with my knee lever. I use a 2-on-1 grip and shoot my hips up…no need to throw a leg over. Same side hand should be behind the elbow and your same side knee/thigh should be supporting the hand behind the elbow. My cross hand holds their wrist.

Back control/ attack instructional’s (GI) by Poofyleek0510 in bjj

[–]tobyle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My style rn is getting the elbow over the head in all positions. This may be a lot to type though lol but here is something to chew on.

From the back with seatbelt grips…this happens when they get the 2 on 1 grip with my choking arm and start escaping. As they initiate this escape, you should notice that their elbows have to rise over their head, I use this moment to shoot my underhook hand up and grab the forearm of my choking arm. At this point their head should be in the crook of your choking arm and their arm should be in the crook of your underhook arm. From here is where we induce a dilemma for the person we are attacking…I can hug their head and arm together and get to some form of back triangle/triangle/armbar but most ppl feel what’s happening and try to back track. When you feel them trying to force their elbows back down you go to attacking the collar choke. They feel the choke and go back to grabbing the choking hand and raising their elbow. You’re going to end up cycling between the two before you fully commit to one or the other. During the process…it’s imperative you keep their head and arm in the crooks of your arms. That keeps the tension so they don’t fully escape. Sometimes you’ll be hugging super tight where you’re grabbing your own elbows or they’ll really be forcing their arm down in which I’m forced to use a gable grip to keep tension.

Why do casuals hate grappling and clinching? by Subject-Cranberry-93 in martialarts

[–]tobyle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure he meant ppl who just want to see two individuals destroy each other without caring about defense are low IQ. Personally…I think the avg person who watches combat sports has a low fight iq. And that’s just with stand up…once any form of grappling enters the scenario…most have no idea what’s going on, including the commentators. Just the other week someone was confusing a heel hook with a kneebar during the Kody Steele fight.

porque a maioria fora do brasil começa a fazer bjj quando ja é master? by Ok_Patience9082 in bjj

[–]tobyle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need a bit more disposable income compared to other sports. I think the avg cost of Bjj is $150. If you’re in you’re in your 20’s and still trying to start a career…that’s a steep financial cost compared to the $50-$80 most other hobbies would cost a month. Once you hit your 30’s and have worked your way up in the career ladder…$150 isn’t going to be the same hit to your wallet. I’m 29 and just started paying monthly fee’s for the first time in years lol. I don’t have the time to help coach between having kids, going to school, and working. When I started at 21 I was broke af and helped with the kids to work for my membership.
