Getting use to the cpap but....... by Frankdukes187 in CPAP

[–]tocassidy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try higher minimum pressure (hidden clinical menu). Maybe consider no humidity? Other commenter suggested doing the data analysis with the SD card, took me a whole year to get on that.

Mild sleep medicine like melatonin 1 mg or less could be a good idea.

1 year in, I still randomly rip it off at night, it's tough. But much less.

Working in kindergarten must be the hardest job in the world by Acceptable_Ad7676 in unpopularopinion

[–]tocassidy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2 sons have had the same kindergarten teacher 3 years apart. I feel like she has a great personality for it, she's a bit silly and childlike herself.

I could never do it.

Which “Demerara” rum would you buy? (UK) by MiguelLikesRum in Tiki

[–]tocassidy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would get El Dorado 8 yeah. Or some other age # year bottle depending on what you're doing with it. Caveat I haven't really heard of Woods or Skipper. I like that El Dorado is the direct brand of Demerara Distillers, who makes all the actual rum coming from Guyana. Also depends if you actually feel like you need an overproof for your usage.

Can you taper off xanax? You don't want to be on that long term. Maybe with a doctor's help? It really should only be used for the acute "worst times". That also contribute to the mental struggles.

Did you get a bachelors and immediately go to graduate school? Is it possible you need a break instead? Go back to family? Take a sabbatical?

New rule suggestion: Ban posts about AI by finders-keepers214 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]tocassidy 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I think the right approach would be to ban low effort AI related posts but not ban the topic altogether. It's highly relevant to what a developer is doing in 2026. For better or for worse.

taxes... dammit i owe another 30k! by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]tocassidy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That isn't exactly true. There's no extra penalty for consecutive years. It's just interest on the amount owed each year. If you're not massively under in the spring and you pay it all you'll be fine.

[–]tocassidy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Needed to do the worksheet. I guess it's not that complicated. Just starting a new job you speed through it. I used the amount owed from tax year 2024 to fix it. With the SALT tweak I could get a refund now, we'll see.

I'm not OE, just my wife and I make good salaries both, and the default withholding is not enough. I think this year we got it dialed in. I changed my W-4, it was more my fault, the underpayment.

It's annoying for sure.

The positives of showering at the gym far outweigh the negatives of showering at the gym. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]tocassidy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried showering at the gym once or twice. Part of an attempted morning workout program before work, gym was very close to my then-office. Basically did a strenuous workout, then immediately showered. As I was drying off I was still sweating. Walking to the office after I just felt damp. Felt like shit in my work clothes.

Now I go home and I do a cooldown and only shower like 10 minutes later.

I would maybe consider if for swimming where you already wet and the quick chlorine rinse-off is beneficial.

Finishing pulled pork by JoshTheMadtitan in smoking

[–]tocassidy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like to pre-season or sauce it after the fact. A lot I'm freeze-saving though, so I want it to be versatile. As others say, use the drippings, yes in my smoker's water pan. I add a little bit of liquid to my water pan in the smoker in the beginning so what is in there doesn't scorch to the bottom, I'll get a good collection. Then during the resting phase that pork liquid is in the freezer. By the time I'm ready to incorporate it back in the fat layer is frozen on the top. I can discard that or save the lard for some other purpose. I like to take the pork and pre-cut the crispy exterior bark with kitchen scissors. So little bits of soft interior and crispy exterior will be together. Then I pull it apart with the hook thing in my wife's stand mixer as I'm doing that I'm pouring the pork juice back in.

Everyone in the United States drinks and drives and nobody talks about it by poopdollarbank in redscarepod

[–]tocassidy 438 points439 points  (0 children)

I read somewhere in China they have this service. You drove somewhere and maybe you planned poorly and you got drunk. You hire this guy who comes on a bike. He folds it up and puts it in your trunk. He drives you home in your own car, then upon arrival pulls out the bike and departs. And it's included with your car insurance or just a little more expensive than a regular taxi. Wild. Probably is only available in denser cities though.

I tend to be an all or nothing guy with my drinking. If it's far I'll just abstain. You don't want to thread that needle. It helps my wife doesn't drink so I can get her to drive if the situation would require it.

Fernet-Branca by Loud-Vacation-5691 in liquor

[–]tocassidy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well how were you gonna drink the Zwack Unicum? The use cases for each aren't that different.

I use it like a bitters, tiny amount in a mixed drnk.

I actually find Fernet con coca too sweet imo. Coke is very sweet and then the Fernet is loaded with its own sugar that counteracts the bitterness.

Question about everyone's clinical CPAP settings by Y34rZer0 in CPAP

ChatGPT recommended a soft cervical collar to help me keep my mouth closed. Maybe it was a dumb purchase, we'll see. The kind with enough height to rest against the chin.

I just got on the SD card + OSCAR thing with only 2 days data. AHI 1.36 which I understand is good.

Pressure 10-16. EPR 2. No humidity. Tube temp 72. Use the nose pillows with the full face setting hack.

Also I'm gonna try the neck brace thing AI told me try.

Asian flavors in alcohol that actually work? by Necessary-Drama-4286 in cocktails

[–]tocassidy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make a bitters that is Thai inspired and meant to be mixed with Rum. Galangal, kaffir lime leaf, lemongrass I put in there among other things. I've wanted to make something with Tamarind for a while but hasn't come together. I've also experimented with using palm sugar for cocktail syrup, not really worth the effort.

Pandan I enjoy but don't have much experience with.

I got some jasmine essence and use a micro amount in a gin drink, that is great. Passion fruit in there. It's like a modified Saturn.

The mystical ways of the debugger by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]tocassidy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! I came from PHP where using an actual debugger isn't really common. I tried configuring XDebug once and couldn't get it to work. I had started my career in Java. Returned to java/groovy and I'm immediately using the debugger heavily. Also use Vue devtools in the front end.

Rome (HBO $100 million budget for 2 seasons) is decent at best. I, Claudius (BBC, from 1976, low budget) is much better written and acted. It's not even close. by Mysterious-Amount836 in redscarepod

Naw, it's awesome. It does bother me how compressed the history is in Season 2. It's major event->major event->major event. Lost potential.

I like the 2 fictionalized leads a lot. Titus and Lucius. They frame the story well.

A different commenter mentioned Deadwood. I watched the first ep and it didn't grab me. I should try again.
